Well the best place to look for known bugs is tucked under patch notes/Known Issues page which did include it before it got fixed Clicky , It was posted by GMs the instant it was noticed and broadcasted to everyone online at the start though I don't think anyone after the broadcast got the message when they logged in.
There's a Dictionary on the EVE website (menu on the left under EVE Insider) that explains all the acronyms used in EVE.
Imo people are responsible to find out the rules themselves, especially when they're in an easy to find place (the website), this goes for real life and in games. Most of the time things are obvious and common sense kicks in, but when you're unsure about something i always do my best to find out how to do it.
Also, there's a Player Guide on the website. If you wanted to understand how BP's work, why not read up about it first?
I'm sorry, but something is very odd about this whole story and i'm finding it hard to believe you were just a victim of your own ignorance. Did you really just try to make a few extra ISK by passing off a BPC as a BPO? Or did you really just put the description as a "BPO" because someone advised you to (even though you didn't fully admit that someone told you to put "BPO")?
Fair enough if you really did just write something that you didn't understand, but if you had of told me that you tried to scam people out of a few ISK by trying to pass off a BPC as a BPO, and you didn't know that it was an expliot, then i'd believe you. There's nothing wrong with scamming (unless of course it's through an exploit), as that's apart of EVE.
Edit; Ok, just read those logs you gave. No one told you to put the description as a BPO, so why put BPO? You claim that you have never even heard of a BPO or BPC, so again, why put BPO?
I was on ESCROW for the first time. Never even see it before and as the logs indicate I thought escrow and the market were one and the same thing (it does say Market Escrow in the wallet journal when you sell something in the market). Within a couple of minutes of being told what escrow is I had placed the items in ESCROW using other items on ESCROW as examples. They must have put BPO on one of the nearby examples and therefore I just did the same not knowing at that time that there was any alternative. Could somone with this level of knowlege pull off a deliberate scam ?
My entire intention was to sell some blueprints that I had copied. Nothing more. I would not scam and I would not knowingly use any exploit. Lets face it if I did I would try and make more than 200,000 isk which I can make mining in less than an hour with no trouble.
There are still some things about blueprints I do not understand and the website does not explain.
In my hanger I have 1 original and 13 copies of this blueprint. How do I tell the difference? they all look the same and all say blueprint in their discription. I therefore assumed they were all the same.
I have also noticed that they all offer the opportunity to copy if you right click them. I thought someone said above that you could not copy the copies ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Why then the option?
I literally played with blueprints for a hour or so and believe me I regret it. I honestly thought that the worst that could happen was I would lose the blueprints. That is why I only put two on for sale at 100,000 each and kept the other 13 copies. At no time did I expect to be labelled corrupt and banned for 3 days from a service I had paid for. Hence me making all this fuss.
On the point of not reading up on the rules. This is a very complex game. If you were expected to learn all these things before you started playing then no one would play the game. I learn by doing rather than reading in most cases. Risky thing to do here IMO.

Right click on the BPO/BPC show info then scroll down to the bottom of the attributes tab, it will say both if its a copy and how many runs are let on the copy.
TBH you were just unlucky, and your log from rookie chat does not show where you went wrong...It did not say to call the BPC a BPO when you escrowed it, that would be why if there was a official presance there at the time noting was said (apart from it being missed, just like you missed a couple of replies to your question). It will all hinge on wht you put in the item desprition on escrow if you called it a BPO/Blueprint or just a Blueprint copy/BPC when you escrowed it then you were if you knew it or not exploting.
Unfotuntetly it looks like you by accident did a crash and burn offense, you may not have been scamming but you may have been exploting due to lack of expreiance. But yeah you should have been emailed when the ban was applied.
FYI scamming is allowed, but exploiting is not. This was classed as a explit due to the normal way of telling being disabled (right click and inspect pre bug it would tell you if it was a copy and how many runs, during bug it would not...should now be fixed).
Oh yeah in passing when buying from escrow ALWAYS INSPECT
Here is the discussion I have had with a GM2 on EVE regarding this matter.
2006.09.07 13:47:00 GM Grimmi ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sorry for the late reply. Senior GM Grimmi here. When BPCs started looking like BPOs after the patch some weeks ago, abusing that via escrow missions was immediately classified as an exploit and a news item was issued stating that those found doing it would get a temporary ban. This is the reason for the ban on your account. This has now run it's course and your account has been reopened and you should be able to play without further problems. The issue with the BPC/BPO has been fixed.

My Reply:
2006.09.07 19:10:00 Ten GuMarr ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Thank you Senior GM Grimmi I already knew all that (Wrangler told me). My question is did the news item that you refer to contain the words blueprint copy or did it just contain the abbreviations BPO and BPC. If it just contained the abbreviations then how is a newbie supposed to understand the message? If it did say "blueprint copy" in there I admit I was unobservant and noobish. If it was abbreviated then I feel it is unrealistic to expect a new player to understand such abbreviations. I am an experienced customer services manager and would never dream of using abbreviations in a document without providing an explanation as to their meaning.
You might want to read the thread mentioned below (skip the first few posts as we now know why I was banned). It goes into a LOT of detail as to why I feel this was not the right way to treat a new player who did not do anything wrong intentionally
2006.09.14 13:51:00 GM Grimmi ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hi. Here is what the news item said: "There is a display error when putting a BP on escrow. BPOs appear to be copies, but copies with unlimited runs. BPCs appear to be originals, but with limited runs. This is a high priority issue. Do <b>not</b> purchase a BP with escrow unless you are certain of its type. Players caught exploiting this issue will be banned."
This has now been fixed and the news item no longer applies.
We are sorry if this seemed a bit harsh but this was such a large issue that we had to plug it immediately and there was little time to go about it in the polite manner we would have wished for in all cases. Again, sorry for all the trouble and good luck in the world of EVE as well as the real one.
<br>Best regards,<br>GM Grimmi<br>Senior Game Master<br>EVE Online Customer Support
================== End of Discussion (so far) =====================
Now while this is a polite message I do wonder if "there was little time to go about it in the polite manner..." is a masked apology for not telling me why I was banned in the first place.
Either way the message above that was displayed to players as a warning contains the abbreviations BP / BPO / BPC with no explanation of what BP or BPO or BPC actually means.
They do not see to take on board my recommendations for a clear communication policy which is a standard business practice in most professions. All this would entail is for the above message to be communicated as follows:
There is a display error when putting a BP (Blueprints) on escrow. BPOs (Blueprint Originals) appear to be copies, but copies with unlimited runs. BPCs (Blueprint Copies) appear to be originals, but with limited runs. This is a high priority issue. Do <b>not</b> purchase a BP with escrow unless you are certain of its type. Players caught exploiting this issue will be banned.
You add a few extra words and greatly reduce the possibility of a misunderstanding. Its not rocket science its BASIC business.
I have noticed that before my ban I was 100% enthusiastic about EVE and was encouraging my friends and staff to play but since they banned me for no good reason in my opinion I have lost my drive for the game. I have even stopped looking for a Corp. I am therefore ceasing my account which expires on the 24th. Perhaps I will change my mind by then (I like my mining barge) but I doubt it. I need my enthusiasm and the ban seemed to take that from me.
Thanks to all of you that assisted me. The community in EVE is terrific.

This makes no sense at all. I am a 37 year old experienced role player, gamer and beta tester. I have never cheated (apart from about 5 years ago in ultima online to get rare barrels).
Yep My House in UO (just NW of Trinsic) was wall to wall rare barrels. Long before the days of non-PVP land. Must be about 7 years ago rather than the 5 mentioned above now I think about it.
Those were the days
Moving onto another MMORPG now, might give Ryzom a looksee

Sorry they ided a explot, they put it in the forums and the ingame news that displays on the character screen. The info was there and from I have read in this thread you were unware of the exploit when you escrowed the BPCs.
So I don't really see what your complaint about the text of the explot notice was about...granted for you it was some really cheap BPCs...but some one could have been scammed out of billions of ISK for a 1 run copy of a tech 2 item due to this bug/explot. Also the extract from rookie chat had both BPO and BPC in it if yopu were unsure what it meant you could have asked...
The fat that billions could have been lost is why they were harsh which is TBH a much larger kick in the nutsthan a temp ban, escallay when putting in a desprction that had the the word "copy" or how many runs it had would have made you safe from what happened. a couple of mins looking at the items on escrow before you stuck it up wold have showed you the most used format that BPC sellers use.
You exploited its realy as simple as that, its basicly irealivent that you did it supposedly without knowing as this exploit/bug could have wiped out months of work on other players accounts vs a 5 day ban for you...
To me it would have made a lot more sense that they removed any such items from Escrow so the seller lost the item.
I got banned for 3 days for mistakenly trying to sell 2 BPC's as BPO's for 100k ISK each. I would have willingly lost them if I had inadvertently done something stupid (perhaps noobish is a better term). CPP would certainly kept me as a customer if that is what they decided to do. They might also have kept me if they had bothered to explain their actions against me rather than leaving me in the dark with nothing more than a you are banned logon message (see first post).
If someone deliberately tried to scam another player out of Billions what would have happened to them? I understand there was a blanket ban of 3 days for that offence.
2 x 100k incorrectly labelled copies sold by a noob = 3 day ban
Deliberate act potentially conning someone out of billions = 3 day ban
Nice and balanced that don't you think? I am as guilty for a stupid mistake as the most corrupt player is for attempting an exploiting scam.
Yes the terms BPC and BPO's were bandied about but at no time did anyone explain the meaning as everyone assumed that I already knew. I could have asked but I was already trying to do so many new things and had already looked like an idiot on Rookie Help so I didn't bother and just got on with it. I was worried that I would screw up so I only put on 2 of the 15 blueprint copies that I had made as I was not bothered if I lost them.

I don't think that CCP's policy regarding bans and repercussions is set in stone. From what I have heard, the ban period is GM's discretion, and if one was to hand out an unfair judgement, their ruling could be reviewed by a senior GM (that is assuming that their CS system actually worked). I am certain that the people who intentionally scammed others for billions received a much tougher sentence. Though the differentiation between people that are scamming and those who just made a typo can be tough, in the cases that I saw (a person placing several Battleship BPCs on escrow listed as "BPO!!! Must Sell, Price Cut!" immediately after the servers came back up with the bug) it was pretty obvious what was going on.
While I have faith in CCP's overall judgement, I will say that CS definitely needs to improve on their communication. Very much so.

Well I not going to try and call you any names, he without sin throw the first stone and all that <besides if i was to list all of my less than optimal Eve adventures i would be here all day >.
But in Eve scamming is allowed...explots or using exploits to scam are not.
Yup the mail not being sent was bad I agree (in mitigation the CS staff is pretty much snowed under, having been going tech support for 7 years now I can realte that shit happens) so I consider calling them incompitant for not sending the mail a bit strong...
Due to the fact that scamming someone for ISK while not using a exploit is allowed (Escrow scamming being one o the most popular ways of doing it) I would not call this overzealous action. Not putting news that everybody has to pass on the way into the game and then banning would have been, for example saying theres a escrow explloit not giving any details and then banning players.
For instance a ISP i used to support would give temp account supensions if the acount exibited suspicous email activity (basicly looked it was a spam bot or had its password comprimised) this action was so the user would have to call us so we could inform them what had seemed to have happened while stopping the behavour and then allowing us to tell them what steps to take to fix it. This was seen as overzealoius behavour by some or help by others. I feel what happened to you is in the same ballpark.
I am sure you have seen some real screw ups as a CS manager, I know as tech support I have seen some really fucked up things happen some caused by 3rd parties, other techs (sometimes myself ) and some of the worst caused by managers or the pure CS agents .
I think you are overreacting and reading far to much into one incident, but I am not you. You were unlucky to have put a badly described escrow up when there was a crash and burn ofense pertaining to what you did, if you had done it a week or so beore or after it would have came to nothing excpet some unsold BPCs.
well, it doesnt matter if they wrote BPO and BPC instead of Blueprint Original and Blueprint copy. on the game oficial forums there is a special section called Dictionary or something like that, and there you have all the abbreviations most commonly used and their meaning. if you dont read the oficial page of the game you are paying 15 bucks is your fault.
Perhaps it is my fault to some extent but expecting anyone to read the massive amount of data on EVE when they are in the process of learning how to play (first 2-3 weeks) is a little unrealistic. A few hours before I put those prints on escrow I didn't even know there were blueprints in the game.
I never read up on mining. I didn't need to: Tormentor + mining laser + expanded cargo + afterburner was all trial and error and worked fine.
Finding a Light Missile Blueprint on Market + making a few missiles using resources I mined + experimenting with copying blueprints (when I finally found a facility that was available) + trying to figure out what the hell to do with then once copied + asking for help on rookie help + experimenting with escrow = sudden ban without explanation.
I think you will find that most people learn by doing and fewer by reading about it.
And it DOESmatter that their Message used abbreviations without explanations within the same message. Simply because it is unprofessional. The fact that they have a glossary is fine but does not excuse the fact that an important message was unclear. The additions to the message I made above add only a few dozen characters and dispel potential misunderstanding.
Claiming that CPP are busy is no excuse for not sending an email to explain what happened to my account. If they cannot handle the workload that means that they are understaffed. If they are understaffed and do nothing about it then that is a direct demonstration that they put their pockets before their customers.
As for wasting a few £££ that is hardly a concern for me and I do not consider it wasted. I enjoyed the game (especially the community) its just this above facade has weakened my enthusiasm. The thing that bugs me the most was being banned and left in the dark as to why. There is no excuse for that and I honestly think if they had handled that better I would not have cancelled my account.

The fact that they used a TLA does not matter in the least, as by your own admission you were unable to tell which was which...so i call bullshit on that.
You have a description field when you enter the escrow, you did not fill it out right...user error that comes under the heading of.
I truly doubt from how you keep bringing up the newbie chat (which had the aforementioned TLAs in it) that you would have followed any other course than the one that you have (cancelled the account).
Like I have mentioned this was a time limted thing to happen, it was a massivly explotable bug that had a harsh response because it was a masivly exploitable bug. This was by no means a little issue. Its pretty rare for CCP to swing the ban hammer so fast as they did in this area.
Yes the email should have been sent out no one is disputing this fact, it was not but shit happens deal with it.
You don't seem to operate under a trial and error system, more like a try and quit system.
Again it was a exploit you did which had a set response the fact that you did it without knowing apprently is of no importance, the fact that they used a TLA in the news article is not important DUE to you self procalimed lack of knowalge on how to tell which was which from one of your prev posts
"was advised to do what caused me to be banned and I had no idea that I did not do it properly as I did not even know there was a difference in value between the copies and original blueprints. Why are they different values?
I have been treated like a cheat when in reality I am just a noob. This is not innocent until proven guilty this is direct to 2 shots to the head. How are noobs supposed to take on this game and grow to love it when they are expected to understand every message placed on the message system particularly when it mentions abbreviations like BPO and BPC. Until I read the above post I had no idea what the difference was."
you did not know how to tell them apart till after you stuck them on escrow, so unless you have a time machine handy that fact that it was BPO and BPC in the news item is totally irellevent.
"Hi, i'm selling a BPO. I don't know what a BPO is, but i'm selling one anyway!" For all you knew BPO could of meant "Big Perverted Orangutan", why would you sell that!? It still makes no sense to me at all.
Also, it clearly says "BPO" in the news and you're trying to blame CCP for not explaining what a BPO is, yet you still used "BPO" in your escrow description. You either never even read the news item (so it's pointless trying to blame CCP about what words they did, or didn't use), or you did read it but you still decided to play with fire when you wrote "BPO". Which is it?

If you read above you will see that I was experimenting with blueprints having discovered them on the market.
Made some light missiles from the blueprint (200 I think). Eventually found somewhere to make copies. Made 15 copies then thought "what the hell do I do with these now?" So I tried to sell them on the market. There is an error on the market when you try and sell copies which says you have to repackage them. Read the clippings from the Rookie Help chat above. Eventually put it on escrow after being told how on rookie help chat and used the examples around me to establish what to say. I guess the ones around me said BPO.
If that marketing error didn't exist then I wouldn't have lost 3 days play (that I had paid for). Try and sell a BPC on the normal market and see what happens (try it with a low value one just in case they fixed it).
I didn't even know what Escrow was 5 mins before wrongly labelling the Blueprint, I thought the Market WAS Escrow. I had never even clicked on the missions button before it was mentioned in the chat. If I can go from not knowing what escrow is to working out an escrow related exploit in 5 mins flat then that makes me a genius rather than a noob (which is certainly not the case).
Perhaps I was unlucky to have made these errors at this time. The combo of the bug in the market saying you have to repackage blueprints and the fault on escrow that one blueprint type can look like another added to me trying too many things at the same time (it is how I prefer to learn) was my downfall but I do feel I was punished for being new + programming errors + poor communications (not blue-chip quality or even close).
I have cancelled my subscription purely due to losing enthusiasm for this game. My enthusiasm never came back after the ban and I was constantly being over cautions when trying anything new "just in case".
Might return one day.
I find that I am constantly repeating myself on this thread and I also feel that I have said enough. It has become very long winded. Time to take the tick our of Subscribe to this topic.

I'm sorry but ignorence is not an excuse to break the rules, never have been, never will. Everyone is responsible for their own actions and responsible to learn any rules and keep uptodate with any rule changes. This is true both in MMORPGS and in real life.
"Memories are meant to fade. They're designed that way for a reason."
Odd took the tick out of subscribe to this topic and emails still arrive about new posts ?????
Granted Rules are Important. So are clear instructions pertaining to those rules so people cannot accidently break them. This is a basic rule of management. CPP could never get a bluechip or IIP award using their current communication structure. Abbreviations alone would prevent success.
again tick removed from subscribe to this topic. Lets see if it works this time.

I honestly still don't understand how you managed to put BPO, you still haven't told me how. You keep saying that you "guess" that's how you did it... wtf? Meh, guess we'll just leave it, but i still don't believe your story.
I honestly didn't know the difference between the two. I had no idea that a copy of a blueprint held any less value than the blueprint it was copied from. I saw a blueprint as a piece of paper with a plan on it (how else would a noob view a blueprint other than how one is viewed IRL). I saw the initials BPO and BPC around but I though it was something like tier 1 and tier 2 items. I have already mentioned that above. As you can see someone (a Moderator) explained the difference for me.
FFS the most money I could have made out of this was 200k ISK and I can make that in next to no time mining (15 mins or so). If I was up to something I would have gone for millions not a tiny sum.
Either way it is not relevant anymore as I am leaving the game and my account times out on the 24th.
I might come back if I cant find anything better to play but not for a few months at least as I will look around at the games and associated customer services.
BTW taking the tick out of subscribe to this topic does not unsubscribe you as I got an email about this post. I will try the primary link once I have finished this post.

At the end of the day you were banned for just 3 days, whether it was intentional or not doesn't really matter as it happend.
I don't know of any other game that e-mails you with an explanation for banning anyone. I also don't think it's worth their time going through all cases and asking them whether what they did was intentional or not... people lie, so a 3 day ban sounds very fair to me.
You can argue the case that their news item didn't actually say "Blueprint Copy" or "Blueprint Original" as like you just said, you didn't know the difference between them. Plus i bet you didn't read it anyway.
You seem to be taking this very personal, but it really isn't. You were banned fairly and for good reason, the only thing that seems to bother you is that you didn't know why, but like i said before, i don't know of any other game that explains reasons for bans.
Well the 3 days was fine as well for the not asking if it was intentional, The abbreviations /Acronyms bit was unprofessional along with the inability to have a require to read/hit okay announcement.
The reason why you neve abbreviate in a official open message is that people may not know what they are. Its would have been fine to say Blueprint Original(BPO) and the use BPO in the rest of the message as the abbreviation has been explained for those who may not know it. Hell first time I saw BB I thought they were talking about a battleship as BB is a common naval abbreviation for Battleship.

-iCeh

Sorry for the late reply.

Thank you Senior GM Grimmi
I already knew all that (Wrangler told me).

Hi.

And it DOES matter that their Message used abbreviations without explanations within the same message.

-iCeh

BTW can u get banner 4 posting GM duscussion on a public board ?
