The main reason 9/11 should be remembered outside of the lives lost, is that it proved we are not invulnerable. We can and will be attacked. The last time we really had to confront this was when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. How did we deal with that? We nuked them. We made a display of power that said "Don't fuck with us again.", and they didn't. The difference now is we cannot directly attack the people responsible because they are allowed to hide behind the shelter of other countries not directly involved in the fight. Also, the rest of the nations in the world watch us and will use ANY action we do that doesn't fit in with their personal beliefs or goals to convince the rest of the world we are evil. My personal thoughts? Use the oil we have in this country( we have confirmed reserves of deposits to last 50-100 years), pull out of Iraq and these other countires, and let them sort there own shit. And when they come begging "Please help us. We are going to be destroyed!", turn the t.v. up a little louder and tell 'em to have a nice day. And then, if any of them decide that they have conquered enough that they can take us on, let the bombs fall. We ARE the most powerful nation in the world and it's about time we concentrate on ourselves so that we can be even greater. And make stricter rules for immigration. Who gives us asylum in their country? Noone. Who gives us welfare to live in their country? Noone. The rest of the world believes we should be more like them? I agree. Let's.

And that is the reason that I disagree with us killing 44,000 innocent civilians that had absolutely nothing to do with the attacks on september 11th. Killing them all to make sure that the small group that did it is dead is idiotic at best. About hiroshima and nagasaki... I don't necissarily agree with our excessive use of power there, 70,000 innocent people dead, 140,000 injured, hundreds of thousands homeless... But it did get them to withdraw from the war. Here, we are just killing for the purpose of killing. Unless the government tells us what it's actual motive is, we must assume that there is no reason behind the slaughter.

I was saying that people in america are so elitist to think that it takes tens of thousands more iraqis and afghanis to justify the deaths of 3000 people. I mean, really, 3000=/=44000. People need to learn to put things into porportion. Yes, 9/11 was really bad and all, but how many people here die each day? If those ads on TV are correct about drunk driving, it is 2880 each day just from that. Then add those who die from AIDS, you have another 3000 a day. Everything is just blown out of porportion.

QFT
That gives way more credit than is due to George Bush's capability as president. Oh, and Clinton has no influence whatsoever anymore...
