I've seen this debated here before a lot of the recent articles assigning blame were published but here are the facts as I know them;
LA execs asked if it was possible to get SWG more in line with the WoW design model.
Jeff Freeman liked the idea, said yes, and then pushed hard for it with SOE. Jeff Freeman came up with the basic design details of the NGE which at first were similar but not a copy of WoW. Since then the team has added more and more WoW elements in order to appeal to the WoW audience.
LA still believes in the WoW model because they see it working with WoW.

Did it ever occur to these turkeys that in order to pry players away from WoW, they needed to create something BETTER and DIFFERENT? Yeah, I'm gonna drop my WoW character I worked for months to build to go play another game that is exactly the same.

Back on topic. I don't care who is the "brain" behind the NGE. I want them ALL fired. All of $OE. To place blame on one person would mean the rest can stay. They ALL had a hand in this OR kept their mouth shut about the truth. Plenty to guilt to go around.

Jeff Freeman (Lead Gameplay designer), and the guy who was known as Lord Pall was the Lead Designer. They and the team they ran completely came up with the idea, sold it to the boys upstairs, and got the thing pushed through.
You know, even the "wise men" behind SWG, won't answer that one without being cryptic. "The man" came up with the idea. "The man" is many people.
But if you ask me? "The Man" is Nancy McIntyre, Helios, Smedley and Tora Tora Torres. None of wich have any imagination or original ideas, or even a clue to as what made the old SWG so great that despite being broken, it kept almost double the subscriptions over their "not so broken NGE".
I know it was definitely NOT Helios. He was brought in later, after the thing was a flop.
It was sold from the bottom up, not the top down. The boys up top merely wanted the mess they caused with the CU fixed (also a completely SOE designed flop), and that task fell to Lord pall and Jeff Freeman. "The man" just wanted sinking sales to be brought back up and since the last success they had from before the CU was JtL (which Jeff had a lot to do with), those boys were given a chance to "fox" the game. They blew it, bigtime.

Unfortunately Double today's NGE subscriptions is not a functioning MMO, especially one with the land mass of SWG.
