Sorry, my shift key is broken, so a backslash is the closest I can get to a quesiton mark =/
I was just wondering if there had been any sort of plans for a PS2. I asked a few people in-game, and there seems to be an overwhelming level of doubt. I have to ask, why/ I remember at release, this game was loaded, and it still appears to be loaded. Does that not warrant a sequel, or am I missing something.
Again, sorry for the lack of punctuation, but I have no shift key ; ;
Waiting for something fresh to arrive on the MMO scene...

Who would invest in it? PS bombed big time. Ended up in the 'All Access Pass' barrel with all the other failed and aging MMORPGs that SOE has collected. So, my guess would be no. Look for a different FPS Sci-Fi type MMORPG to come out.
Why did PS not succeed big time? One answer that comes to mind : the 'Area Cone of Fire' model. I know of no real FPS fan that will accept that model for resolving fire. The fact that a Sniper could not One-Shot an enemy with a good shot was an indication that someone had not really thought the mechanics through.
As a comparison, the BF series is still going strong. Yes, I know, BF is not MM and only supports 64 players max at a time. But, do you really think it would still be going after all these years if it did not have a 'Bullet Goes Where You Aim The Gun' model of firepower?
Let's hope the next MMOFPS Sci-Fi game gets it right.
50k subscribers is NOT a failure, not in those days. To this day it's got more subscribers than any other MMOFPS...
BF has no fee to play, totally different model.
Not saying PS is perfect, it's not. But it's not a failure, as you like to try to say. On the contrary... 3 years at 50k+ subscribers paying $13 a month: 23 Million over the past 3 years. Subtract development and maintenance costs and the game has STILL profited SOE quite nicely.

Anyway, I heard a rumour some months ago that SOE were developing a new MMOFPS, little is known about it, or if it is true. I'd love to see PS2
The Brave Do Not Fear The Grave
I'll buy it.
But this doesn't mean it is a good game. Not all games have to be for everyone.
Other than Huxley, what 'better games in the MMOFPS Genre' are coming? I'm curious; i haven't heard of anything to match it.
It's not funny, it's not clever, and it WILL break if you play with it.

As to your question:
No plans for a sequal have been announced at this point.

In that: If you hold down the trigger and fire at full auto you aren't going to hit ANYTHING except maybe a stray butterfly. But if you practice trigger control and take the time to fire in short, controlled, bursts (or even single fire) you will be very accurate (and deadly).
I've taken out snipers with a gauss at range before, it's not easy but you can do it. Like I said, firing on full auto will mean you hit zip unless you're right in their face.
Anyone who's been in the military can confirm this: Never fire more than a 3-4 round burst from a machine gun. Period.

Anyways, no, in short, they are planning on bringing the Station platform to PS3, which in short allows you to play all Station games, including Planetside.
50k subs? ROFL your joking right? Theres, at most, 800 people a server, and thats being optimistic, and not accounting for double accounts and 5th empire whorage.
How do I know? <Checowskys NC BR25 CR5, Checo VS BR23 CR2, PsychoBit TR BR16 CR0.
mmm power, anyways I've played for ages, and it is a very flawed game, but it's more adictive than anything else I have EVER played.

In terms of FPS, Tabula Rasa looks like trash. It's going to be RPG first and foremost, with just a hint of FPS to make it interesting. TR will not be a "true" MMOFPS. Huxley I can't comment much on, aside from the fact that the system requirements are going to be absolutely outrageous. I also heard it plays like Quake, which I despise. ;S
Personally, I want a PlanetSide 2. No instances, no mobs, just large scale PVP FPS action. I don't see anything on the horizon that will fufil my needs, that's why I recently resubbed to PS. >;P
When I read the review on this site, they never said there was no plans for a PS2. They just had no comment, which means its very possible there could be a PS2.
At the moment, we do not have any plans for expansion in PlanetSide. We have a dedicated team that will continue to update the game with new content through publishes that players can download when they enter the game upon logging in.
As to PlanetSide 2, we’ve got no comment.
And that usually means a maybe. lol
I have been playing PS since it came out of Beta on and off. The off part was when I couldnt play because of job or when the game graphics (FPS) was in the toilet after a change came out.
I dont see another revamp of this game in the future, what keeps this game from becoming a great game is that they try too hard to make the game too cooperative in operating vehicles, and the 3 factions with different capabilities is another detractor. What the game needs to be great is any vehicle with a primary weapon has to be used by the driver / operator, a second or how ever many weapons stations can be manned by other team members, but the primary concern is the operator having the ability to solo. Kill a faction, too many times I have seen new players get discouraged and quit when they get caught in a pinch between the other factions and it gives them the feeling of steam rolling.
I keep looking for something to replace this game in scale and playability and so far I keep looking. I cant do the fantasy role play, if I want to take on an enemy I want another player on the other end of the web either taking me out or I taking him out, dont have much use for bots. So until something better comes along I'll keep playing.
There are many vehicles with pilot weaponry - the aircavs for instance, or the Lightning - but i for one wouldn't want, for example, the Vanguard Maingun on a single-person vehicle.
XP is shared between pilot and gunner whather they are squadded or not, and the pilot gets assists for everything the gunners kill - what more do you want?
As for the factions, it has been standard procedure for practically every MMO released since Everquest to have two or more races with different philosophies, aptitudes and attributes - again, it adds depth to gameplay, and helps fuel the conflicts around which any such game is based.
It's not funny, it's not clever, and it WILL break if you play with it.

Lets address your points:
1.lets be clear...AA 'bombed big time'...DDO 'bombed big time'...PS had 50k players for a game that wasnt really expected to do much...why do you think games like Huxley are now being made?
2. PS has always been on AAP
3. other reasons PS may not have won over every FPS player...no jump-fest, no hit locations, no one shot kills, oh, yeah, and A MONTHLY FEE...that might have somthing to do with it
4. As for the cone of fire...if you used a sniper rifle properly, the bullet does go where you aim it...sounds like sombody is a noob
5. if 'by going strong' you mean 'still chock full of cheats', then yes, BF is still going strong.
I doubt we will see a planetside 2. They need to make a mmofps useing the name of a already huge franchise like Battlefield or Halo. All mmog's that are successfull do this.. warcraft, starwars,FinalFantasy, etc.. I think they only get so big because the hype is so big before the game even comes out due to the name alone.
It would be interesting to see a Battlefield or Halo mmofps and see what happens. I bet one of those would be way more succesfull than planetside, neocron and even the upcoming huxley would ever be just because of hype from the name.
SOE decided to sistematicly kill PS.
1. Core Combat expansion at the time better known as world worst expansion MMO world ever seen back than 2003 i think
2. Little or no new content added since game came out exept CC and crapy Aftershock
3. Same base design from day 1
4. Horrible bugs and exploits took dev sometime ages to fix
5. No real goals or rewards
6. Dev team was changed 4 times already (im not playing for last 6 months so maybe more)
7. False promises
8. Cheaters never got banned from PS
9. Ridiculous events
10. Total negligence by SOE for PS
Unfortunatly future aint bright for this game and its not gonna improve since PS becoming very old and graphicly outdated.
1 more great and promising title goes into the craper cos of bad management and poor devs.
P.S. Dont get me wrong. I like concept and im so sad to see once promising title dieing like that. In its glory days before game started to fall apart my outfit was for more than 3 months on second place (while outfit points meant something).
Sorry for my Tarzan English but i dont have time to check grammar and its not (as you can see) my native language.
yeah i wouldnt call it a bomb , i do wish for a PS 2 though since i loved the 1st one, give it a bigger budget and see more vehicals and weapons per patch(i mean i played for prty much a year and they added like 3 vehicals which were just varients and the flying dump truck which is the only "Actuale new one")
I mean if they did make a second 1 i would pre order it the fun was in that you and your friends can go do a bunch of things get like 5 peps ya know in RL to play and youl have a blast barking at them to hit that max unit on a hill.
for that list id take the 5th one off, it has the goal of all fps's..................................to shoot that bastards face on the opposing side with a bunch of friends and to dominate them and piss them off till the log off
FPS's dont need really a goal , like when i had to get a mech cert i was disapointed because if certain things wernt right it was hard to do.
