One thing I like it DDO, that isn't found in other mmorpg's is the built in voice chat.

I still enjoy my time in DDO and i have played since release. Yes, the game has quest grinding, but every MMO has grinding! for a MMO player to say its repeating and boring..its just hypocritical if you ask me. can someone please tell me a MMO there isnt xp grinding in? the only difference i see in DDO compared to another game is, in DDO you kill the critter in the same dungeon or cave. while in another game you can kill the critter in 2-3-4-5 different enviroments. not important to me! only factor im looking for is, fun, good comunity, nicely done quests, pvp (coming) and fun combat. (also like crafting...so i miss that in DDO)

And yes.. this game has monthly updates with content, new features etc (oct. updates should give 30% more content)

It sounds like the main problem with this game is a lack of content. Maybe a great expansion pack will solve this problem?

Haven't played it. Really wanted to, regardless of the less than spectacular graphics (and they do look REALLY bad).

But Ebberon ... What the holy hell ... Who's brilliant idea ... well ... if they aren't fired, they should be.

The only downside to this whole thing is that all the good developers will look at DDO and be scared about trying to design anything like it for a while which means an even longer wait for FR Online :(

I'm not a big fan of flaming games but I have to agree.  The D&D license should be scrapped.  Wizards of the Coast should be smart and publicly apologize for the disaster that is both Eberon and DDO.   Dark Elves are not the answer, wanna be solo content is not the answer.   If they truly wanted the D&D "Geeks" to be proud of their work they would have done a Greyhawk MMO.  Much easier to work with than Forgotten Realms.  Eberon will never be a campaign that catches on.   Stick to the classics.

"Haven't played it. Really wanted to, regardless of the less than spectacular graphics (and they do look REALLY bad)."

How do you know what the graphics are like if you haven't played it? I hope you're not counting the awful self-made gameplay videos people put on the net that look like they are playing the game at 640x480. Anyone playing the game in download form gets a max of "high" textures. You need the DVD for "very high" textures. There's not a huge deal between the two settings, but it's easily noticeable. I've played WoW with the graphics cranked up. WoW maxed kind of looks like DDO if DDO is set to 800x600 or maybe x768 and medium textures.

Short of not liking the "style" of the graphics, I don't know how anyone can say it looks bad. I maxed everything on EQ2, (not many frames-per-second when you do that ;)), and wasn't overly impressed compared to what DDO looks like maxed.

The game is Solid. it has potental. But there just isent enough content. Most MMORPGs are Based in a world. But here you have a game that is based on one small city and outlining areas in a huge world of possiblity. Only a few games depend on the city scape and both games feel so much bigger then this game. being CoH and Matrix. Its just to crowded. They need to invent the world not just the city.

    Yeah I know.

  • As of 10-25-06 we had module 3 added (either monthly content or a module added each month) and the game has taken a large step upward with 12 more high level dungeons, level cap increase, spell additions and a huge outdoor area containing all the new content. And pvp has come to ddo and although it's not usually my thing it's kind of fun just to jump into it (actually enter a tavern and move to the pvp area and drop down into the fight from above) for some quick action. Team pvp is in the pvp arena but I haven't seen it yet. Been too busy questing for that.

I know it's traditional to slam games you don't like and DDO is not for everyone so that's going to happen. Even WoW's forums are full of complaints (just came from there) so I guess that's all they are for. But DDO is progressing although it never had a content shortage to begin with. The real problem is that the average gamer wants instant gratification and something totally new each time they log in and it's just not possible. They take the easiest and quickest path to reach the maximum level and then proclaim the game has no content. Those types are going to find nothing but disappointment in DDO.

DDO is about questing with others and finding a way to work together via voice chat to survive the combat and finish the quest. With the new module that just got quite a bit harder to do and I feel the game is the better for it.

Like I said before the game isn't perfect and never will be and Turbine seems to be very intent on putting out content on a schedule so there are always a few bugs they need to hotfix for. Today the servers are down for a hotfix (2hrs) to fix the newly added auction system (that's why I am here). But I don't mind. Maybe they don't have the backing to hold up additions like blizzard does until they are perfect but then they also face the continueing cry so many gamers constantly scream about..CONTENT. Well that's what we are getting monthly.

And I still say this is the best game I have played in ten years of mmog's. (wont drop in the caveat of imo since most of what we spew is opinion so I don't see why "IMO" is used like a disclaimer to avoid negative responses). Just like I won't waste my time trashing games I don't play anymore. Thanks for reading.

Jeddak, very well said.  If there is a statement to "Sticky" on the forums, I would make this one of them. Its to bad that most who continue to "flame" DDO will never understand the various points you made.  I would encourage all those who felt it was missing all the "extra features" to check out DDO again with Module 3 in place.

I have to agree with the above poster about matrix online being the worst game ever.  DDO sucks, but worst game ever?  so many crappy games to pick from.  With all the crappy and poorly done korean cross over free games, I have to say DDO isn't the worst game ever.  but that does not mean that it does not suck.

and it still sucks in mod 3.
