It's an SOE game, and that in itself should warn you not to invest your time. SOE has a history of making sweeping fundamental design changes to their games without regard to their playerbase. They have done it in both EQ1 and EQ2 and most noteably in SWG. It's no fun investing time to develop a character only to have fundamental aspects of the game changed after release which decrease your enjoyment and playability.
EQ2 itself was supposed to be a superior game to EQ1 based on the years of experience and customer feedback SOE had to draw on from EQ1, but they screwed the pooch and ignored what the players wanted and released another raid oriented game. The fact that there are less subscribers for EQ2 than EQ1 proves they didn't listen to the players or learn anything from their EQ1 experience.

OK granted SOE has many issures, but I think think that overall they have done a good job with both EQs, my gripe with them is the way they wring out their players for even more money by having content you have to buy and a constant march of expansions, but you know what?  You don't have to buy them if you don't want and the game still has tons of stuff to do.  So yes they ruined SWG and that was terrible, but that was a different game and a different design team.

In my opinion with EQ2 they listened to their players too much by creating too many babysitters in their code, but they wanted to fix some of their biggest problems with EQ2 and apparently their biggest complaints were about greifers.

I'm sure that EQ2 has more players then EQ1.  If you look at the mmogchart website you'll see how close they were 3 months ago and you'll also see that EQ1 is on a major slump while EQ2 had just started gaining more players.

EverQuest 2 is not EverQuest 1's universe.  It's as if they made up this whole new world and slapped in EQ1's name and said "Here ya go!  Play me!"  After a couple months in EQ2, I left it.  Which is sad, because I was in EQ1 for 5 1/2 years. :(

So many games, so little time!

He’s trolling (trying to trigger a flamewar between others on the site).  Personally I didn’t think he was doing a very good job of it, but he did manage to get a couple people to bite.

EQ2 isn't bad from what I played, but then again I can't relate to those who've played EQ1 because I never have. I have a 50 swash and a couple alts and I took a break because I grinded myself out. It's very easy to level and from every patch I see they are making it easier. I'm not crazy about the end-game content though.
  • Frankly, in my opinion, EQ2 is just a better game than WoW in all regards except the art.   The graphic effects are better and 90% of the RPG aspects are richer.  The community is better and the devs interact better with the community.

You always diss games, Jorev, but I've NEVER heard you once say a game was good.

So, if EQ2 is not your cup of tea, what is? I have asked you this countless times but you always ignore it. Could it be because nothing is good enough for you? I guarantee you don't even play a damn MMORPG.

If you do, what is it?

EQ2 is a great game and I'm sure you haven't even tried it, unless it was at release. It has improved a hundred fold since then and it and DAoC are the best MMORPG's out there right now.
