I just d/l the Vanguard video from the forum post "You have GOT to see this tester made video".
Well thank god i did..
The game looks fine..and when i say fine i mean fine!Nothing else..
Soooooo my comments on the video are..
You have stolen alot of things from DAOC..The graffics are good but very static..they are not "warm" instead they are ..hmmm.... "cold 3D" .
The movement and attacks from the Players and NPC's look not to real but "robotic".If you want to see real movement see some videos from WoW or AOC or WAR..etc
The Terrain from the video seems very empty..Huge castles and towns are good but they still look "cold" towards the player..
I give to the video 4/10 and ihmo Vanguard needs ALOT of work..Tho i dont think it will make it as game versus AoC,WoW,WAR and you know why?....
Because these games dont look Robotic and their enviroment ROCKS!It looks real even if it is Comic based or not (AoC) and the movement of the Chars/NPC's is also real as hell..
Cheers!

You are comparing 4 games, that you probably never played based off of 1 video?
i play wow since day 1..but thats another thing..
Go to AoC or WAR or WOW and d/l a random gameplay video and come again when you have a clue..
I hate to say this but, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOB!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!
Starwars Galaxies, An Empier Diveded, That's what it says on my box anyway.

I agree. I could tell by your first post you were a WoW fanatic with little or no experience in intense MMORPG. If you enjoy the light-hearted vibe of WoW stick with it. The graphics of WoW kick ass because of the simplicity of the game itself. Vanguard would more than likely be too complex for you if WoW is your choice, However, I think if you enjoy MMORPGs Vanguard would be a great eye-opener for you and you would see all the missing content in games such as WoW and WAR. Leave the G rated and step into the big leagues;) I promise you'll never go back.
Assumeing WoW was the MMO to take you MMOviginity. It makes sense. Most people have a special bond to the person place or thing they consider their "first" So I will not refer to you as the comlete idiot, just more of a lack of experience.
Vanguard is in beta, with a few months to go, populating the world, and such is something being done during beta, before they stress test the servers. Every game does this.
Most of the video you see for AoC, and WAR are animated videos, you may compare them to anime, you may not compare them to actualy in game footage.
When you compare WoW to vanguard, it like compareing a cartoon to a movie. In vanguard you have realalistic colorings, and WoW you have all the colors out of a 64 piece crayon box.
When your ready to get your cherry busted in a real game, come over to the vanguard side, when you log in, you will be "oh crap! WoW was gay!"
You can't ever compared a so called finished product to a short beta testing video, now I know why developers never show any of this stuff until the game is ready, by feeding their futur customers little tid bits of the game, they also feed the butt munches that started playing MMO's last year and think they can design a better one already.
If you so damn educated towards what it takes to build a worth while MMO get off your butt, and start writing. You probablly don't even know where to start. That's almost like telling a mecixan how to speak spanish.

By your definition Van Gogh is a crappy painter compared to Thomas Arvid.
The fact is that one game is stylized and impressionistic and one is more realistic. I happen to like both. But your preference for one does not make the other a "crayon box."
EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

Thomas who?
It is in a persons preference I agree. Which is what I stated earlier. I would love to get a govermant grant to study one persons idea of atractive compared to another. Some people prefer blondes, some brunettes, but then you have the breast man. Nobody can tell you what you like, but you.
If Vanguards graphics are not up your ally, then hopefully the game play will make up for it. If not, then WoW will still be there right?

well i hate to disapoint you but i am not a wow fanatic...im just playing wow atm!I started for many years with AO then daoc and so on..i played many games since now..And i think i can tell my opinion for a MUST SEE video..and like i said before this video is not a must see..there will be much better games than Vanguard in my opinion..And i made a comment for the game like it or not soooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Do not put WOW tags in everyone..And as much im bored of wow the games rocks and vanguard will be a piece of ****** compare to wow!
...there will be much better games than wow to...

Instancing.
They throw the baby down the bathtube as they would say. Instancing is not perfect, but see, let's take examples which I am more familiar than WoW. DDO, the instancing is crushing the MMO-aspect, it is just a little too instanced. CoV, just perfect, can't ask for better use of instancing.
Cooperation must come ahead of competition, which is exactly what a good amount of instancing allow. Fighting over limited ressources, this harm cooperation (especially in PvE)...yet, we will see, on this precise aspect, I am willing to give Vanguard the benefit of the doubt, we will see how it work, but the bar is very high, a game such as CoV make good use of instancing, without abusing it...and it set the mark, if non-instancing can't equal it, then it will be inferior...let's see if on this precise aspect they can deliver...
Now, I don't say WoW is better than Vanguard, I can't, I don't know WoW enough...and I honestly despite WoW from day 1, I was raging as I was playing, so I left WoW on day 1. I can't talk fairly about WoW, however, on the instancing aspect, they are definitely ahead of Vanguard. But 1 idea doesn't make or break the game...usually.

The OP has a point. And I feel the same way.
Technically the graphics of Vangaurd have a sound foundation, got a all the modern effects and it has seamless terrain. The system requirements are very high atm, but it can be fixed, and I hope it will.
The graphics are static and cold. Like most other "real" mmo's like people like to call them. Eq, Eq2, Vanguard are just a few of them. All follow the same style of art. The "just some generic semi realistic fantasy art" style. When I keep looking at games like W.A.R and AoC, I see artist working on the game. While looking at Eq and Vanguard I see some nerdy guys sitting in a dark room, with thousands of lines of codes and numbers running down on a screen before them. I don't "feel" anything in the art, I'm not able to "touch" it. It feels like numbers. There doesn't seem to be a greater goal with the art. It doesn't try to be cartoony, it doesn't try to be realistic, it doesn't display a dark and gritty world, it doesn't display a fun and happy world, it's just brown and grey.
Under the problem above you can put animations, design, and most of the art in Vanguard. The landscapes are nice, but they suffer because they are so big. Big = more empty. Large parts of the terrain looks generated. Endless landscapes with trees and rocks placed in a random order. Again the "number feel" retuns. But the terrain does have many positive apects. Mainly the seamlessness. If something with the art in Vanguard is done good, it's the landscapes.
And what is up with the Vanguard community and Wow. On the forums, ingame and on fansites. Each time someone says something bad about Vanguard, or someone says that something was done good in Wow, he get's the "return to Wow you worthless piece of sh*t!" or "go play Wow you f**king 12 year old retard!" or just "http://www.worldofwarcraft.com". The Vanguard community is hands down the worst community in this aspect. Grow up people. Wow has some very good sides, you might not like it, but others do, without being 12 year old retards.

Instanceing was not a WoW break through, it was around before WoW, and I disagree with Instances, DDO over abuses it. But I agree a game like CoV, which yes, I have played, and it has no community, so instanceing actually worked for it.
A lot of games used zones which is where instanceing derived from, some developer one day said, he lets make smaller zones! If vanguard can run with no zones, I will give them extra credit.
Vanguard will have no instances, just like M59 <used zones>, UO, EQ <used zones, not instances>

I hope that wasn't refering to me...
My only complaint about WoW was that it was too easy.
My only problem here, is when people compare Vanguard to WoW. The games are about as far apart as you can put MMORPG's.

Instancing.
Instancing sucks donkey because it takes away from community by putting people into little cubicles instead of having to get a long with each other.
Go back to WoW you ******* *******!
Sorry, kidding of course, couldn't resist. All communities have bad and good apples. Detractors of Vanguard will say that Vanguard fans are childish because they are biased, as WoW detractors will say WoW fans are immature. WoW does have some really bad apples, but all games do. I agree with you phoenixs, time that the Vanguard community put its money where its mouth is and start acting like the adults we claim to be. It's just hard when someone says something so far from the truth and tries to generalize to make the game you like look bad.
You did say the graphics in Vanguard look "...static and cold.". I happen to look at them and find them incredibly vibrant and lush. It's all in your perspective and what you like, I guess. I think WoW, while visually pleasing, is a step backwards in terms of graphics. Other people think it's the best thing since sliced ham. We are individuals and we have a right to our opinions. But when you come into a games own forum and start pissing all over it you would have to be either daft or insane to think you won't get some backlash.
I'm glad that you at least have, if not objectivity, at least a sense of decency. Cheers.
Well..for the last time i just said my opinion for the video and "some" for the game...
If some people here cant stand others criticise .. i am very sorry for them..
And as for the "But when you come into a games own forum and start pissing all over it "...
saying an opinion is not pissing all over it..as much as you dont like it
well...
/cheers
Its sad when MMO PR has become very similar to used cars sales, and all the weaselly half truths they tell to get some poor schmuck to buy a lemon. Even worse, get a "support" network of people who make money off the sales of those lemons to help "shout down" any negative comments to keep the sales up and looking good. Its a wonderful example of a questionable business model.
Then toss in a "special interest group" that use the "if we say it enough, loud enough, and long enough.. people will come to believe what we are saying and join our cause." method of backing the game.
Personally, I'm through taking anything the devs and a company building a MMO say at face value. The simple fact is they are out to make money. They'll do what they can to get their product sold to the most people possible.
I've seen The Vision for Vanguard drift, change, and warp over the last 2 years; but people seem to forget what was said that long ago and what's being said NOW.
I look at the screenshots and the "must see" in game movies, I look at the current reqs to play the game, and this is my conclusion:
You have a tweaked engine that's meant to run graphics 2 to 3 years out of date and being forced to deal with all the additional advances in graphics since that time. In the end you get something that comes off as being a bit generic and hollow artistically, but requires a fairly beefy system to run decently.
The graphics do look "cold", and the animation is pretty simple and generic. There's a lack of fluid movement that gives it almost a scripted look. The look of the terrian appeals to me on one level, and turns my off completely on another. I've heard so many fanbois scream "hand crafted content", and wonder where that hand crafted content is? It sure isn't in the terrain, mob models, or anything else I've seen. It all looks pretty "generic high fantasy" done in a generator to save time. They even made all the bodies similar in build so they didn't have to create different textures for armor. So much for the "hand crafted content" ...
Look at the spider fight.. its long (almost 2 minutes), it pretty boring, and going by what you can see of the mob's info; that was a pretty easy fight for that group. That fight did nothing for me. There was no visceral combat appeal, there was no ohh or ahhh over the graphics, animations, or effects; and in the end I just wanted the fight to be over with. I was left with a very deep sense of.. alot of time spent doing repetative actions with very little appealing about the fight to keep it interested in that fight other then having to watch "pool bars" and "counter moves".
While I have little interest in Age of Conan; I have looked at all the screenshots. I suggest you do the same. The pictures of the terrian reveal something I've never seen in a Van screenshot, and that's they have a ambience of a "real" living area in a world about them. There's a sense of art and "feeling" to those areas that I just haven't seen in Van. That has alot more appeal to me...
One last thing to wrap this overly long post up.. Just what in the heck do they need a 20gig install for? Think about that seriously for a bit.. that's almost 3 to 4 times the current install of pretty much any game out there. Look at Oblivion and the level of graphics, content, and screnery in that game. That was a 5gig install. Even assuming Van has 2x the textures and items; the install shouldn't be more then 10 gig in size. Most likely around 7 to 8 gigs. Van's graphics and AI is no where near the level of Oblivion... So just what are they doing, and putting in the game install that takes up that 10 to 13 extra gig of space????
If you don't think that's way off base for a MMO game install, and don't have reservations about it.. then have fun in your game. I'm sure you'll get just what you have coming to you...
Datawight - Speed is Life, Glory a Necessity, Death a Given!
On the other hand my guess is, if they r done with the main things they have to fix / add they will polish these things, remember they still have at least a half year time so I wouldnt say now just cause of a beta video that it will be the same at release.
If they can make the animations for fights and graphics from spells better so the combat wont look so boring the game will rock but we have to see. I mean at least for me combat is the most important factor, if i dont have much fun while fighitng mobs then I really dont care how good the game in general is or how much it has to offer, it will fail for me.
Thats the reason why I hate Guild Wars so much, played an elementalist and was really disapointed near all spells looked same or there wasnt even a real animation for it, very booring.
Datawight - Speed is Life, Glory a Necessity, Death a Given!
heh, you obviously haven't been following vanguard for a bit...let me clear something up for yeah.
the release date is set for this winter not winter '06, yes i know it used to be winter '06 but they changed it for obvious reasons.
the release date that the stores have are not accurate and i will be surprised to see vanguard released before the beginning of spring 07'.
there have been multiple posts on the issue and if you look around a bit I'm sure you will find them, there was actually a huge debate about this on the FOH forums witch the Dev's have cleared it up and it will not be released this year.
i have heard of many strides of improvements since beta3 has launched (not really sure what you are talking about there) the frame rate is better, lesser machines are now able to play the game where before they weren't able to....and they have alot more people logging on and actually playing the game, from what i hear ofcource.
I'm not going to touch on the rest of your post because you have a right to your opinion and it is based mainly on speculation, but rest assured the game is not being released in 2 months, not even close.
just thought i would let ya know.
