I think I ought to clarify something in regards to my initial post:
When I say "grindy" what I mean is games like Tera, where once you hit a certain point in the game, it starts to give you tasks that literally just amount to killing literally hund…
So we gave LotRO a try... Sad to say it just didn't grab us, the combat and overall gameplay just felt far too chunky and outdated, and the combat was just boring.
I think I've been spoiled by more modern MMOs in that respect, I don't mind tab-targ…
I've got LotRO on the download, but do I understand this right...? Can you play the "Vanilla" WoW servers without needing to purchase the game or pay a sub fee? And when you say "Vanilla" do you mean it just doesn't have expansions in it, or it's or…
Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. Seeing LotR Online being suggested a lot, which is a bit surprising. We've seen that game here and there but its never caught our attention. Might be worth a try.
Also, in response to some of the posts: We gene…
Oops, quick addendum (because I can't find the "Edit post" button) We've also tried Guild Wars 2 but found it too nebulous and unengaging, again. Just not for us, sadly.
Discworld.
Rich lore, huge world, dense story, basically operates on video game logic in a lot of areas.
Probably would never happen seeing as they can't even make a good movie of it, but hey, who knows. A man can dream.
To me, exclusive, one-time-only items always struck me as a kind of a dick move. Mostly because I remember what happened to Runescape way back in the early 2000s where "novelty" items like Halloween masks, Easter eggs, Santa hats and god damn paper …

Secondly, one of the reasons I like B2P games is because, even after the sub runs out, you can still at least log in to do things like maintain things and check up on quests/friends or just have a quick play around. I don'…

Honestly, the very first thing that came to mind is Everquest II. But it has quite an archaic combat + graphics...so if you're willing to give it a try...
Honestly neither of those things irritates me about EQ II. Gfx is mostly poi…

Alphinaud and his twin sister Alisaie are only 16 (the two Elezen in the intro scene you mentioned)- your character is how adult Elezen appear. I could never really make a male or female Elezen because of the tiny head/big body s…
If I were making an MMO with the whole "rare but powerful magic" system, I'd probably go with a more Vancian "Rule" magic system. In that spells would need to be prepared beforehand and stored, kind of like the spell scrolls in the Elder Scrolls gam…
Quick update on GW2: We played it for about 4-5 hours and got up to the first major city zone, but I have to say, we're not entirely enamored with it. There's no real drive for us to go back to it. Not sure why, but it just didn't grab our attention…
Played a bit of Guild Wars 2, and it's holding our attention right now. Not perfect, no. But certainly better than the other games we've tried.
Thanks for the advice, folks!

* Black Desert Online: Race and gender locked classes along with forced PVP after level 45(?) not to mention it's buy-to-play.
Everyone's different but this seems like a fairly superficial reason not to try BDO. I would su…

FFXIV would be perfect for you if you weren't so against sub fees (Which by the way makes FFXIV the most content rich out of all the new mmo's). So I guess go with GW2 because I can't think of a…

I think you two need to look into other types of games.
We have done. Multiple times.
There's an alarming deficiency in nice co-op games these days. At least, ones we haven't already played. We've got the first Dark Souls …
Thanks for all the feedback, guys! GW2 seems to be the prevailing vote so far, and seeing as it's gone free to play, I'm definitely going to give it a try. Got it downloading right now and I've been reading up on the classes, races and gameplay. It …
Found a fix: If I toggle the HTML mode on and off it seems to fix the problem.
For reference, I'm using Google Chrome and running Win10 64bit.
EDIT: just replicated it on the main post while updating it and this time, toggling HTML didn't fix it.
@Shaigh Thanks! I did see that there was an English patch for the game, but the whole needing to pay for a KR account + needing to buy a VPN is a bit of a turn-off right now. Especially since the game apparently has forced PVP after level 30. But I…
