I had this same problem in closed beta and was able to fix it by opening up the ports that FFXIV uses. Here is the link that tells you what ports need to be open. Open all of them but port 80. http://www.daevaofwar.net/index.php?/topic/430-p…

I played the last weekends beta. The game looks very nice on highest settings. The skill and talent leveling is pretty cool. I did not like the Skyrim style combat though. It felt very clunky.
