''Easy way to combat the loser gold buyers.'' Interesting topic topic which has always incinerating answers, although this one contains mostly anwsers that would fit in a bin. This member started the topic with a tip and probably has NO interests in eachothers relegion or such. I know most keen on having discussions on forums, but don't astray too much, it reduces the interest of the subject. Thanks

Kind of agree. It feels when I am debating the topic of gold buying
that certain people will seize on the slightest excuse to derail the
actual debate and turn it into a bout of mudlsinging.

Back to the topic at hand.

I've had a go at trying to define cheating. I realise my definition is
a little vague in places and can certainly be refined, but I'd like to
see my opponents come up with a definition.

Can you guys define "Cheating" in a way that both makes sense, and doesn't include gold buying?

An escape from the world? How is spending hour upon hours farming for money an escape, fact of the matter is I can make money easier in the real world then in any of these games. Explain how working harder then I do in the real world is an escape?

There is no need to spend hours and hours farming for gold. The ability to EASILY make the needed gold for whatever one's current level is, is met. For example, a level 10 in WoW is easily able to make enough ingame money for whatever they need for their level. A level 50 is able to easily make enough ingame money for whatever they need for  their level.

Too many players are simply too lazy to play the game. To LEARN how to play the game. They want 1 million gold at level 1. In no mmorpg is it MANDATORY that one spend hours and hours to farm gold in order to play the game aka in order to have fun aka in order to escape from real life in which it IS mandatory to spend hours "farming" for gold to live.

However at level 40, he must grind for sometime to buy his mount. Even longer for his Epic mount.

These games are money sinks. They are designed to keep you paying to play. The longer they can keep you doing the same repetative task the later you will finish the game, the more monthly fee's they will earn.

There are many many MMO's in which the level/equipment/money grind does not come at a reasonable and exciting pace. (A similar pace to a single player game for example).

Well since I am one of those "losers" who buy gold and items in a game will chime in why I do it. Everything in my life is about time management when it comes to work. I get paid so much money per hour so if in a game I have to grind which I consider work since I would rather go to my real job then grind in some games. Say I can grind out 100 gold an hour and I want to get 1000 gold that would take me 10 hours of work. Now say someone is selling 1000 gold for 100 bucks. I compare 10 hours of work to get the 1000 gold or 10 hours of RL work and I would make much much more then that 100 bucks so I figure work for a couple hours make that 100 and buy the 1000. Now I got 8 hours and the gold much better deal for me.

You make an excellent attempt at a point! But I will come back with this -

Mounts in WoW are not a necessity. Every single level player can use the flying mounts for the very long distances. And the shorter distances are reachable by foot, no matter if one has a land mount are not. The only true benifit of a mount is one can run past monsters far quicker .... which means they are less likely to die or get attacked while travelling.

Even in the PvP battlegrounds, a player level 40+ with no landmount can simply play as "infantry" standing guard for the guaranteed attack. Or arriving a bit after the mounted players to join battle.

    -------

Mounts are not a necessity to play the game. They are an extra. Fluff. Eye candy. A player who does not get one will not have less access to any part of the game. Or be shunned from guilds, or grouping, or instances, or quests, etc...

BTW, at level 40 it is very easy to make the roughly 80 gold or less needed to get the first mount. By then a player's faction standing will be soo high - from doing quests from level 1-40.... that they get a discount on the mount. Plus they will be fighting mobs/doing dungeons with drops good enough to make ends meet. (Like Scarlet Monastary, Zul Farak, Uldaman). And plenty of outside world areas.

Only a level 60 can use epic mounts. Is it a grind to get the roughly 800 gold needed? No. If one does the quests from level 1-60, they will easily have 1,000 gold by the time they reach level 60. Factor in regular costs (repairing weapons, buying necessities [heal potions, food] a level 60 player will easily have 500 gold saved even if they splurge. Then group with other 60's to make a few hundred gold... or solo slightly lower level instances and make 20-40 gold per hour. 8 hours of solo blitzing to make the extra 300 gold to get the epic mount. It is a grind, but it sure as heck is nothing compared to what are in the rest of mmorpgs. Heck, even 20 hours of solo instance blitzing at level 60 is still nothing compared to what are in rest of mmorpgs.

There are too many ways of making gold in WoW. One very incredible and intresting way is simply to pickpocket. Another (one of my favorites) is finding treasure chests. Treasure chests are soooo... soooo numerous in WoW. I'll even pass on a HUGE hint. There is a place called the "Vul'Gol Ogre Mound" that is southwest of the town Darkshire. It's a mini dungeon. One does not have to do the entire thing (takes 20 mins). One can go straight for the treasure chest. It usually has a nice blue item inside it. Sells on the AH for roughly 5gold to 40 gold !!!Depending on how old the server is. A rogue can stealth and only worry about fighting 1-2 ogres. Non-rogues can move along the mountain to the entrance, and worry about fighing roughly 4-5 ogres. Heck, log out inside near the chest. And keep loging in every 30 mins or so and open it every time it re-spawns!

There are lots of monster loot that sells to NPCs for nice amounts of money. The Basilisks parts that are south and east of Zul Farik come to mind.

with the money i make in an hour, i could buy 5 hours worth of gold/items in a game

and the fact that it saves me some grind time and makes the game more fun :D

I don't want to know any of you. So, I buy gold so that I can get the equipment that only drops on Raids or Group instances. I take that gear, and gank you as you are questing, farming, or whatever. I appreciate all your hard work in organizing and running your Raids/Groups to get my gear. Now I repay you by farming you. Why don't I craft to make money? you ask.... Because that means I would have to interact with you in pricing and materials. I do not want to talk to you. I only want to gank you while questing. I also do not want to sit around for hours on end making fake weapons to sell. Thats a waist of presious gank time. If game makers would make ALL GEAR avilable to ALL PLAYERS....... I would not buy gold     Rimcy
Why the hell are you playing an MMO if you never want to interact with people?

It's like me going to a large party and only wanting to dance by myself.

I can understand solo play, I like to solo play mostly, but I also play them so that I can get a group at times and for PvP.
