Funny how we first had EQ clones, and now it's WoW clones.
I'm simply amazed when I look at screenshots from Warhammer Online and Darkfall. These are such blatant WoW ripoffs it's almost sickening. I'm almost embarrased FOR these companies.
Here is a link to screenshots from Warhammer:
Warhammer Screens. Pay special attention to the Dwarf screenshots.
Here are the screenshots from Darkfall:
Darkfall Screenshots. Again, look at the dwarf screenshots.
I'm hard pressed to tell if these are infact new games, or some unannounced expansion for WoW.
Especially Warhammer, could they be any more obvious that they are copying WoW. The screenies are practically ripped straight from WoW. Did they hire the same art team, and all the people that worked on WoW to make their game?
Take a look at the ram mounts in Darkfall, remind you of the dwarven mounts from WoW.
Unbelievable!

What greater tribute to free will than the power to question the highest of authority? What greater display of loyalty than blind faith? What greater gift than free will? What greater love than loyalty?
oh, I so hope one day people will do research first before they post...
Darkfall a WoW clone? If the game ever gets released, it will be everything BUT a WoW clone..do yourself and others a huge favor, do MORE RESEARCH then just looking at screenshots.
Technically, the Warcraft art style was copied from Warhammer years ago. Warhammer has been around much longer, and has always adopted that cartoonish style.
Second, how in any way do the dwarfs in Darkfall look like WoW's? There are only so many ways a dwarf can look, and Darkfall certainly doesn't have the same cartoonish style that WoW has. Seems to me that they went with a slightly more realistic look with the dwarfs.
Third, how can you base an entire game's credibility off of one character model? Just because one character model looks similar to something in a different game, doesn't mean the entire game's graphical style is themed the exact same. Not only that, but the game's graphics mean nothing as far as the game's similarities go. Gameplay is everything when it comes to wether or not a game is a 'clone' of another one. WoW and Darkfall are nothing alike.
Oh no!! Their dwarves are short and have beards too!! Ack, grab the lawyers!!
Was Gimli (LoTR) a rip from WoW? Dwarves are short, stout, have beards, etc... it's been that way for a long time, Blizzard didn't blaze any new trails with the ideas of a dwarf. Call it a clone if you like, but it's just silly.
Gameloading,
I fully undestand the gameplay differences between Darkfall and WoW. I was not talking about the gameplay, but the art/graphics. I should have been more clear I guess.
Again, it's the graphics I'm talking about here.
The graphics are a nice perk for me when I'm considering a game, but are among the last things I look at, but thats just me.
Massive similarities between World of Warcraft and Warhammer Online are to be expected, Blizzard did after all copy from the Warhammer series when they were developing the Warcraft PC games. This is well acknowledged fact, Blizzard developers have admitted to it.
As to the dwarf screenies, how many different ways can you protray a short, strong dude with a long beard?

Your absolutely clueless...
but Ill let Mark Jacobs Ceo of EA Mythic do my talking for me. Straight from Warhammer Alliance forums,

"Folks,
A few true facts:
1) In terms of "following market leaders",
a) I/we were doing MUDs before 99.999% of the world's developers had even heard of them (let alone MMORPGs).
b) I actually (with Richard Mulligan at GEnie), tried to convince Richard Garriot to sekk us the rights (or co-develop/publish) to do an online version Ultima back in the late 80s. Richard told us he didn't believe in online games.
c) Mythic actually pitched to Kesmai doing a 3D version of their Islands of Kesmai product before either Ulitma Online went live and before EQ went into development. They passed on it and we did Aliens Online with them instead.
d) We also actively tried to raise money for a sci-fi MMO before I came up with the idea of DAoC as I thought it would be best to do a sci-fi game since there was no other sci-fi game at the time.
So, if I/we are guilty of anything when it comes to that statement, it's being worse at raising money/convincing people to embrace our dream/vision/etc. To that, I plead guilty. I was never good at telling people what they want to hear and you need to be able to do that to raise the big bucks, I prefer the truth.
2) Imperator was not meant to be a SWG clone, quite the opposite as anybody who saw either the design or the game can attest.
This is what I hate most about the Internet, people can spew total nonsense anonymously and state it as fact and sadly some people will then accept it as fact.
As to WAR being DAoC with new skins, total nonsense. Speaking now as lead designer guy, I can tell you that nothing could be further from the truth (well, other than the nonsense above) than that. Once you get past the whole "Fantasy game with different groups locked in mortal combat thing" there is nothing very similar about the games. The career/class/skill system, crafting system, combat system (things I'm focusing on now), the RvR system, have nothing to do with DAoC and everything to do with Warhammer.
As to certain hot button issues:
1) There will be no buffbots in WAR, won't happen, can't happen. [Edited for clarity, I wanted to make sure I was clear enough "NO BUFFBOTS iIN WAR"]
2) Less grind in WAR. Are there things you have to do to advance? Absolutely, it is a RPG not an FPS. But we're doing our best to make the advancement tracks fun and interesting and not "Kill 1000 NPCs to find 1 item" or things like that.
3) Better balance at launch - We've learned our lesson from DAoC as well as watched other games have had even worse problems. The way I've designed the career system and associated skills, it will be much easier to balance than DAoC.
4) Magical items - There will be lots as per my other posts here. There are lots of them in Warhammer and there will be lots of them in WAR (unlike DAoC at launch). If anything, DAoC was the anti-EQ when it came to "phat loot" at launch.
In terms of it being more like WoW than DAoC, or more like EQ2 or any other such foolishness, almost all games evolve from each other. Developers look at each other's games and look at what they did right and what they did wrong. Blizzard paid a ton of attention to everything that went before them and made one heck of a game. In creating Mythic DAoC looked at what Mythic/Sony/Origins had done, Sony loooked at what Origins/EA as well as MUDs (including Mythic) had done, etc. And once a new game launches, the developers of the current games look to the new games in order to see if they can improve their own game(s) based on the other games. It's an interative process and always will be, that's how things advance in this, or any other industry.
I can tell you this much, the game does not feel or look like DAoC, WoW, EQ, etc. It feels like WAR and that's how it should be.
Mark "
Your still clueless
Have you not read the MYRIAD of posts about how Warcraft ripped off Warhammers graphics?
/sigh
And how much different do you think orcs and goblins can look?
If anyone cares to take a look at a full selection of warhammer screenshots
http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/media/screenshots/
and some concept art http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/media/conceptArt/
Warcraft fanbois make me sick. Seriously, has there been a game in development that you haven't claimed copied something from Blizzard. I still remember Rise of Nations, Rise of Legends: "So this is going to be like Starcraft...but different, right?"
I am just glad that your kind's genetics will not make it to the next generation. Natural Selection FTW!
I guess I am clueless. Your knowledge of the history of MMO's is better then mine. Bravo !
I still find it interesting how the Darkfall screens have evolved over time. The first screens I saw, were, well, ...what they were. And then they came out with the dwarf screens, the first time I saw them, I was shocked how much they reminded me of WoW. I was surprised because I thought Darkfall was a somewhat unique(as unique as MMO's can be these days) game, and simply didn't expect to see WoW rams in Darkfall.
Again, pretty amazing how powerful the WoW influence is.
As far as Warcraft ripping of the art direction from Warhammer, before Warhammer ripped them off from WoW. I honestly didn't know that.
Oh well, back to just reading these boards as it seems my e-peen is simply to small to run with the big boys on this board.
Hmmmmmmmmm, dont know which screens your looking at, but these graphics look very different from each other.

Sorry but maybe I should of been nicer. Most of the regular posters are very tired of hearing "this looks like wow, thats a rip off of etc..."
So its usually pretty surprising, to me at least, that someone doesnt know that Warhammer has been around for forever and WoW ripped off warhammers graphics. Had they known to what ammount of success WoW would attain, Im sure they would of sued. But like I said, they didnt take them seriously.
Darkfall, Im really surprised you think that looks anything like WoW or EQ.
And the biggest thing, there is only so far artists can go to make the same "fantasy" type creatures look different.
A Work in Progress.

hold on a second. wow clone?
rofl hahahah lol
now that i have stopped laughing at your contradiction i will explain some stuff to you. first of all wow is a clone. second almost all mmorpgs have a lot of things in common such as the goblins and dwarves as mentioned its not like your going to find a 6' tall dwarf thats skiny or a goblin thats blue and looks like brad pitt. as i have said before i dont like these new generation mmorpg players (the ones brought in by wow) that plague the lands with people who think they know what they are tlaking about because they have played wow or play wow. wow was not the first mmorpg to introduce the concept of skill leveling im sorry your almost a decade off. o btw if any game is a clone of anything else they are either a clone of EQ1 or UO based.
WAR is clearly a clone, look closely
Warcraft
WarHammer
Warhammer completely cloned the name and just switched craft with hammer.
/sarcasm off
Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.
You're right, but there is a such thing called Originality.
FF Goblins
Some random Dwarves
Those last two are actually Warhammer (board game) dwarves. **Cough**
Like I said, there is a such thing called originality. Warhammer Online definitally doesn't have it.

What should Dwarves and Golbins look like then?
Watch who you say that kind of stuff around...
Alot of us Warhammer fans are really getting sick of hearing this kind of stuff.

Not as tired as everyone else is of that link and your damn insistence on posting it at every chance you get.
The Warhammer art and style was introduced 23 year ago. I would say that a bit older then WoW or WC.

http://www.games-workshop.com/
In modern gaming terms, Warhammer is older then dirt, Blizzard took the art style.
GW created the look and style. WoW is more or less ripped from the pages of any GW Warhammer book.
