I'm  simply amazed when I look at screenshots from Warhammer Online and Darkfall.  These are such blatant WoW ripoffs it's almost sickening.  I'm almost embarrased FOR these companies.

Here is a link to screenshots from Warhammer:  Warhammer Screens.   Pay special attention to the Dwarf screenshots.

Here are the screenshots from Darkfall: Darkfall Screenshots.  Again, look at the dwarf screenshots.

    ---------

FYI: WoW is a clone of Warhammer, not the other way around. Get your facts straight first.

And Darkfall will be anything but a clone. Try again!

    +1
WoW and WAR may look similar but I have to say I think WAR's graphics look much less cartoony and kiddish than WOW's.

Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.

    1) Warcraft stole it's graphics from Warhammer eons ago.  Also the Warcraft "Dwarf" models aren't really all that much different from any classic dwarf model ever.

    2) There's no such thing as a ":Wow" clone because WoW isn't an original MMO.  They're all EQ clones and always will be.  WoW is, after all is said and done, an EQ Clone.  The WoW developers have even said so.  So get off the "WoW clone" kick... I swear... you'd think WoW did something original or new... it didn't... and hasn't.

PS:  The WARHAMMER character graphics are true to the WARHAMMER world.  Just because WarCraft borrowed that graphical theme when those games were created doesn't mean Warhammer is copying them.  Warhammer is staying true to the Warhammer graphics going back decades.

Also:  You REALLY might want to actually read about Warhammer before thinking it's going to be anything at all like WoW.  Same goes for Darkfall.  LOL neither one of those titles is going to be even remotely similar to the game mechanics of WoW.

      Aspalmat,

      Welcome to mmorpg.com imageimageimage

When it comes to graphics, ALL mmorpgs are rip offs of... J.R.R. Tolkien. Warhammer, Darkfall, WoW, EQ, etc.. etc... plus all fantasy mmorpgs get their graphic ideas from their arts departments who ALL get their ideas from the exact same source......

.... which is D&D which got their ideas from J.R.R. Tolkien.

And... Tolkien got all his ideas from old northern and western European myths and legends. And those came from southern and eastern European myths and legends.

Need a quick example? Look at elves. In all modern games, Elves are presented as tall, intelligent, good, etc...
Guess what? Go back far enough and elves were short, dumb, and had more evil tendacies. Santa's Elves, the Keebler Elves, are all leftovers from how the original older myths were.

It all comes down to modern public perceptions. If 10 years from now, the public perceves Orcs as being 25 feet tall, pink, skinny, and hyper intelligent, then that is what Orcs will be.

BTW, originally DWARVES, Elves, gnomes, sprites, were synonyms for the EXACT same thing! image  A tiny, short, mischevious, creature, that lived in holes in the earth. When it comes purely to graphics, no mmorpg copied other mmorpgs. As others have said, Dwarves with beards, Dwarves who are short and stocky, is the curremt present modern template for all mmorpgs.

Oh, let me pick this apart.

"In Norse mythology elves were originally a race of minor gods of nature and fertility" Hardly evil, and synonymous with gnomes. Elves have always been portrayed as fairy like, and with a sense of magic.

Tolkien got his ideas from 16th -19th century stories which spoke of everything he wrote. Orcs, giants, magic, other realms. Yes, fantasy has been with us since man learned to write. Perhaps the most famous fantasy writers were the ancient Greeks. The Norse are rich in modern fantasy themed short stories. They just aren't well known.
"A dwarf is a short, stocky humanoid creature in Norse mythology as well as other Germanic mythologies" Again hardly synonymous with gnomes and elves.

Gnomes perhaps the oldest fantasy race is traced back to ancient greece. Once viewed as highly intelligent creatures who hoarded treasure. Not evil creatures that lived underground.

Where in the world did you get your information from? Did you make it up?

Tolkien certainly led the way for fantasy to become mainstream in America, but his ideas for gnomes, elves, and other things of magic are as old as fantasy itself. To say everyone is copying him is disrepecting all the writers and artists before him of which he copied.

dwarf can look, and Darkfall certainly doesn't have the same cartoonish
style that WoW has.  Seems to me that they went with a slightly
more realistic look with the dwarfs.

Third, how can you base an
entire game's credibility off of one character model?  Just
because one character model looks similar to something in a different
game, doesn't mean the entire game's graphical style is themed the
exact same.  Not only that, but the game's graphics mean nothing
as far as the game's similarities go.  Gameplay is everything when
it comes to wether or not a game is a 'clone' of another one.  WoW
    and Darkfall are nothing alike.

I wanted to say the same but u beat me to it heh.

In my opinion as long as people keeps paying for them then people are gonna keep making them. It's a viscious cycle that is a downward spiral in the MMO development community. Company A makes a game that is very popular. Company B copies the ideas of Company A and adds in a couple new features. Company C saw that Company B was also successful with the formula and copies the ideas of Company A and Company B. It's an endless cycle where newer developers canabalizes the ideas of their predecessors while tagging on a couple of new features and calling it their own.

why did company A have to be everquest though...i wish we would see at least 3 UO copies.  Everquest is almost every mmo out there.

I hope Darkfall does make it and is fun to play.  my guess is no though :(

BTW, Warcraft is 100% copy of Warhammer, in every aspect.

I think you worded that wrong. If Warcraft was a 100% copy of Warhammer then it would be good. WC is more like the defective clone of WH.

Im sorry but its blatently obvious that you know absoloutely nothing about Warhammer.  http://www.warhammer.com, look at the models bud, if you cannot see that warhammer came out before world of warcraft you my firend, are retarted.  Im not going to go into detail about it, but warhammer is in it's alpha stage, chaos will be cooler than anything World of grindcraft has to offer.  End of discussion.

I was gonna post something sarcastic and mean, but i think the author of the post already apologized and said admitted he didn't know about the product he was writing about. Alot of that can't be said of other authors of posts like this. Also, I thank anyone who posts comparative screenshots of WAR and DARKFARLL with WoW. The differences between the three can be seen.

    1. Warhammer Online is definitely not a WOW clone, it takes 10 minutes of researching the game to realize that.

    2. Stop sucking off Blizz all day, go DIAF instead... you WOW fanboys make me ill.

I see nothing "cloney" about that. You need to get your facts straight
before you go spouting off and show everyone just how much of a blind
fanboi you are. Blizzard is the unoriginal company here, who was the
one to come out with orcs/humans fantasy etc? blizz or the warhammer
    series? you guessed it, warhammer.

I plan on playing Warhammer and IMO it will be a very good game. Not to
mention the pvp will rock anything blizz can pump out. I suppose
everything in wow is completely original right? Like the 20 second
logout? the banking system? auctioning? water/food? class names? I can
count of 30 ability names that have been used in previous games. Want
    me to keep going?

The whole industry is direct rip offs of one another, they steal, improve and resell. That is it.

  • MaeEyeMaeEye Member UncommonPosts: 1,107
Warhammer is going to be a better game than WoW.  It probably won't beat WoW in the MMORPG battle, but it'll beat it in PvP and depth for sure.  RvR for the win.  This game is going to be a blast for sure.

Just so some of you know.  WoW was not the first MMORPG ever.  You off by 8 years or so.
