...wow, I'm actually amazed at the rediculous theory's people who don't like WoW come up with.

Wow (pun intended),someone posts the obvious about WOW's success, and we get 8 pages of WOW-related WOW-hate,WOW-love and WOW'ing on WOW.

Obviously WOW is still very popular, whether you love it or hate it. So there'll be no problems with The Burning Crusade, even if critics have said it's just 'more of the same'.

I like WOW's gameplay, and I'm pining for Darkfall and real PvP. But that's because WOW is easy to play (no mouse clicking,no crap interface,no bugs),easy to pay for and generally fun.

Yes it does have similar potential.  Let's see how it is pulled off.  If WAR is designed as an open PvP game with PK looting, it won't be nearly as popular as WoW.

Aye, i doubt casuals would enjoy open grief PvP with items they can lose. If WAR is as diverse as WoW, with open but limited PvP, i think it may become as sucessfull as WoW. Im definitely looking forward to try this game.

Yes, out of next year's crop it's the one I'm looking forward to as well.

Those people that keep saying WoW is such a horrible, bad, or medicore game, thats an opinion. imo, people are free to post their opinion, but make sure you post it as an opinion, this can be done by adding a simply "imo" at the beginning of the post. don't post it as a fact.
WoW the best? Thats a joke. Does Mc Donald's make the best burger? Hell no. It's just as popular so it must be the best right?

Stop being stupid, you like it fine. It's popular fine... it is far from the best.

Yeah because we all know we eat stuff that doesn't appeal to us, or doesn't taste good. I bet you eat alot of shit sandwiches now don't you? The only person being stupid around here is you. If you WoW haters best argument is something about fast food chains and McDonalds then you need to try harder. Because the analogy is flawed.

McDonalds is ediable. That's about it and it's barely that.

But it's everywhere and when I get off the interstate and I have a choice between "SAM'S FRIED FISH", "DONKEY BBQ PALACE" and "McDonalds" I'm gonna eat at McDonalds. That and McDonalds is open all night in most places, where as everything else closes around 10.

Have you noticed the new things on the menu? That's because their CEO(or president or w/e the hell he is) said "We need to quit focusing on getting bigger and start focusing on getting better"
I think it's time for WoW to follow.

I'm sorry, but this is bull.

McDonalds is delicious.  You and I both know this, and any assertion you make stating otherwise is a complete and utter lie.  Is it the best food we've ever tasted?  Of course not.  That doesn't mean it's popular simply because it's "in a lot of places duuur".  Big Macs?  Delicious.  Big N' Tasties?  Delicious.  Double quarter pounders and Hot and Spice McChickens?  Guess what.  DELICIOUS.

You know, the McDonalds comparison would be valid if you people didn't act as if McDonalds food is horrible, which it isn't.  People don't buy horrible food simply because it's "everywhere".  There are food places everywhere.  It's not like we're going to run out.  This country is full of fat slobs of eat at McDonalds everyday, and that's because those greasy blobs of salty meat they call burgers, own your FUCKING face.  End of story.  Saying McDonalds is fast and easy, while having moderately good food and comparing it to WoW's fast and easy gameplay, with moderately fun game mechanics is a far better comparison, although still somewhat flawed because your comparing two entirely different things.

Seriously dude, your opinion is no more valid than anyone elses, so if they think WoW is the best MMO to them, then it is.  Get over yourself.

Online communities grow exponentially. You get one person and that's 5 ppl down the road. WoW was probably the most hyped MMO of all time and they actually delivered 80% of what they said they would, which is good.
In the general game community, a year before WoW was released, everyone knew about it. Now, go to the general game community now and ask them what The Age of Conan is or what Vanguard is and you're going to get minimal response.
Blizzard had a huge name before WoW and they released it with already a huge fanbase.
One thing I can admitt about WoW is that even thoug it's a mediocre game it's strangely addicting, as it was designed to be. Being addicting kept those player around longer and the new players around longer. You got a community of 1million blizzard fans looking forward to a MMO version of their most successful game of all time and you already got a huge game population. Now those ppl's friends who aren't gamers see them playing WoW for 8hrs a day then go "hey I wanna try" and they start. Not the friends of those friends do the same thing and you now have a game that's growing rapidly.
It's really simple how WoW got popular. It's not because it's a good game it's because it was designed to be addictive and released on a very popular title.

Some great points about the online community of the game, but...

If its addictive doesn't it mean that you're having fun whilst playing it? even if you have some obsession playing the game. If you do not like the game then quite simply you wont become 'addicted' to it. This is a game, not a drug.

If people are 'addicted to wow' its because they think its a fun game, and hence it is - by extension - a good game. I mean if you're having fun playing it, who cares if it uses old graphics etc.

@ The OP. Of course another MMO title is bound to make over 1 billion. 20 years ago 1 billion was an inconceivable amount of money, now its common place amongst large companies. In another 20 years there'll be titles that break the 1 bill mark easy pies no probs ;p
