This game looks very interesting and seems like it will be a blast. Very complex and fun to play. But, I don't really see anyone ever talking about it on here.

Is there a reason for it that I'm missing? Or does everyone just have a WoW bug shoved up their butt waiting for the next 2 clones on the horizon?

It actually is pretty hyped around here. Its supposed to bring the old UO feeling back.

I personally don't have any good experience's with small companies that have limited budgets, so I'm not holding my breath yet. I'll wait and see how the game turns out.

I was excited back in the 18th century when it was first announced... now, i check their site once a month and read through their updates (which are great, and a long time coming) but until they actually announce a firm date for beta i'm not going to actively follow it as such.

When the beta is actually announced though, wooooooohooooooooooooooo

It's the "Duke Nukem Forever" of the MMOG world. The truth will finally come out when they drop the NDA.

been following DF since its inception and wish the team all the best. The overall design is brilliant and can't wait to jump in and see how well everything was implemented.

I know the game, but with all the disappointments recently, I'm in a wait and see approach on it.  It could be good or it could be .... really bad.  We'll just have to see.

  • AwakenedAwakened Member UncommonPosts: 595
As Gameloading said, it's a very hyped game, it's just been delayed for so long that people started calling it vaporware like 2 years ago.  Looks like it may come to pass though finally - we'll see.

People keep saying "it looks like it may come to pass"  but I
don't know anymore.  For the last bajillion years I've been
reading on numerous boards that beta is right around the corner and
yet, it seems, beta is STILL right around the corner.  I don't get
warm feelings about this game anymore.

It's the only game that I can't find any big flaws in it's design, it's nearly perfect in everything they've told so far. But it's the lag of PR that really gives me that uneasy feeling about the developers, no one with anykind of business sense wouldn't handle PR so badly.
The number 1 reason most people whine about Darkfall is that it has taken ages and we still don't know any release date. But I don't worry about that, a game of this magnitude ,and such a small team developing it, is bound to last a long time.

If they fail at it, it's just another name in that long list of letdowns.

But if they make it and deliver everything they've promised, IT WILL PUT EVERY OTHER MMORPG TO SHAME.

  • ShuleiShulei Member Posts: 26

Bad PR and I don't like that the designers apparently didn't bother with concept art (mentioned in an interview with the art director), they are developing models based on description from what I read. I am kinda worried for the graphics. The gameplay sounds great though, it's just a matter of waiting for some kind of news? It seems to have been in 'clan beta' forever.

Yeah honestly it promises a bit too much, seems too good to be true. Also a game that has changed staff, if i'm not mistaken, can't be a good thing. especialy since it's been inactive pr wise for such a long time.

They haven't changed their staff, but other than that I agree.

Exactly, correct me if im wrong but they were working on this game before blizzard was working on WOW... Thats a insane amount of time to be developing a MMORPG...

And the progress they have made so far is far from where it should be if you ask me.. Last time I checked the ingame videos looked average at best with a bunch of clones running around holding the weapon the exact same way, riding mounts that looked the EXACT same and wearing armor that looked the EXACT same...

If thats as far as they have gotten in 30 years of development, they should be ready for realease in 2025.

Like I said before This will be the New Shadowbane and Roma Victor.. A bunch of people will be all over this games sack but in the end it will fade within a month of realease.. Just like I said about those other 2 games.

    from the website of darkfall

When will Darkfall be released? We are hoping for a Q1 2003 release of Darkfall

that kinda totally made me loose convidence in the company.

Never ever wanna meet somebody working for a company that in end 2006 still hoping to go gold in 2003 PATHETIC

  • dark-merlindark-merlin Member Posts: 314

^ to get your info straight - before 2003 there was 4 devs in Norway making the game. They were purchased by Aventurine and all devs have moved to Greece and restarted game development. The game has been in real development for abour 4 years.

What people should PRAISE about darkfall is that they are not caving in to the pressure to release. They said the game will do the talking and will release when ready

    THANK EFFING GOD!

HOW MANY GAMES RELEASED THAT WERE NOT READY? DNL, MOURNING, DDO, HORIZONS etc.

For once a game company will try to do their best and take their time. And you people still bitch and bitch. Its not costing you anything to wait, read updates and see if it comes out ok. Support a company like this, because its one of the few to break away from the pack of clones, similar to EVE's CCP.

About the darkfall website beta date-thats whats there now, dont read mmorpg's date:

    When is Beta?
Darkfall is currently in the final stages of internal beta testing. This means that the game is being tested in-house in preparation for public playtesting. You can fill out a clan beta application HERE. A beta registration form for individual testers will become available on this website soon.

I read the stories about Darkfall.  I've heard the internal
testing thingy for AGES.  Those things you mentioned, dark-merlin,
should be praised if that's what they're actually doing.  Unless
you have some sort of secret knowledge, then you probably don't know
any more about the game than we do.  Which, quite frankly, isn't
much other than what we've known for years.  I'm not entirely
convinced that there is anyone even working on this game full time...
maybe when they're not at their day jobs they dabble or
something.  I don't think we're going to see this game and, if we
do, there's a chance it might end up a fiasco like Mourning or
DnL.  All hype and no substance.  I hope not... but it wouldn't surprise me.

What i have said about cycle of development are all facts, from reputable sources like IGN, MMORPG.com, magazines and E3.

I never said that it would turn out great-thats to be decided by the players at release-it could suck a big one.

But i believe we should support this development, unless something wrong happens (pre-orders before beta for one would turn me off the game).

EDIT: this is the interview at womengamers.com. She went to their Athens office, and i think you would be very interested in what she has to say about their work ethic.

It was originally slated for release in early 2003, it's a tad bit late so any heavy enthusiasm has worn off. People can say that it's because the devs are taking their time to get it right, but to any but the most fervent it looks like it either won't be out or won't be out anytime soon.

  • VagelispVagelisp Member UncommonPosts: 448

I like it's concept and Idea but after the slap from Dark and light i prefer to wait and see and not just read to what Darkfall Devs say.

I don't think It is wise to talk about unreleased games.

  • sacred_bandsacred_band Member Posts: 104

this was the first game i was excited about in a long time, but ressurection should make for some very lame battles and when i heard there was no exp loss (or skill loss in the case of darkfall since it doesnt have exp) so pvp was pointless i pretty much .....ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz oops what was i talking about

  • dark-merlindark-merlin Member Posts: 314

^ you loose all your loot on death, is that not enough? Besides the PVP is based around city building, defending, sieging and destorying. protecting trade routes, piracy, etc.

i think its very important to pvp, and important not to die.

SO ??? my point is that whoever is developing the game isn't even able to correct 1 faulty date on a website, And they call themself developers :P PATHETIC
Futhermore the enjoyment of an mmorpg lies in a lot of small details and they are proving they have absolutly no eye for it
    I rest my case

HOW MANY GAMES RELEASED THAT WERE NOT READY? DNL, MOURNING, DDO, HORIZONS etc.

Ooh you think thats an argument ? EVERY MMORPG TO DATE has been released before it was finished. darkfall be one of them. It will take atleast another decade before the standards for mmorpg are so high you can't get away anymore with release of a half finished game. sad but treu

For once a game company will try to do their best and take their time. And you people still bitch and bitch. Its not costing you anything to wait, read updates and see if it comes out ok. Lol your actaully saying that except CCP no MMORPG developer did there best ????????? Your utterly and completly mad. Getting the highest profit for your company is considerd to be an employer thats doing it's best just looking at the amount of money i waisted last few years on mmorpg alone i think there doing not to bad of a job. And as for supporting the company, why ? there game is an polished up open pvp game from which there already been a few. Most of them fail because of lack of peeps actaully playing it. Only if your a open pvp fan it may be worthwhile to support the company because open pvp games generally don't last, so new ones that temperarily on release have enough playerbase to sustain them for a year is the only way you open pvp get a game to your taste

Open pvp games never ever last. the have a cicle. first a few months of loads of fanatics trying to get to max level or max skill. then when everybody has a char max level half of them leave because there not capable of enjoying themself around killing peeps al day (yeah it can get boring), the other half leaves because a few l33t kindies out level and out item them and they get busted by l33t screaming kiddies that are just not able to type descent english.

You know what? in a year or 2 you know im right and i will say "what did you espect ??"

    just life

"Open pvp games never ever last."

Tibia has been around since 1997 with kill anyone anywhere pvp and is still growing, a game with good open pvp system can have gameboy graphics and still show up on top ten subscriber lists for 10 years

Well ... an open PvP game *can* last if it has something that makes the fighting worth it.  EVE is an example of this: it's FFA zone is open PvP with large death consequences, but what keeps it interesting is the concept of fighting over territories, shifting alliances and politics, and the fact that on one server, you really can make a name for yourself in the entire game if you really want to.  If you don't have anything built up around the open PvP, it becomes a lot less compelling for players.
