I would make this a poll but there are way too many options as far as games go. Feel free to vote for your favorite console, then discuss the games below. Waa waa we waa!
handhelds not included... sorry, not enough poll spaces. I bundled all of the old Ataris together under the retro thing because there were too many of them to put individually. I listed all I could think of off the top of my head, so just click 'other' if yours isn't on here.

RISING DRAGOON ~AION US ONLINE LEGION for Elyos
I'd have to go with Playstation.
That console had soooo many classic titles and still today is the best console ever made. Noone elses games library beats it and it's where all major titles today inspired by or have become successful because of it. Until then FF for example was a very underground game.
Until Playstation games were made for kids, thats where games like GT and GTA stepped in.

RISING DRAGOON ~AION US ONLINE LEGION for Elyos
played Streets of Rage the other day at my friend's place. My other
friend and I were talking about it while he was playing, and we figured
that he could actually program that game and I could actually do all of
the artwork and animation by ourselves. :P
Technology has come quite a ways.

SNES, as that was the current-gen console when I was at my youngest gaming days.
Game-wise, I'll go with my favorite game of all time, Chrono Cross for the PS1. Amazing visuals, amazing music, great battle system, tons of great characters, etc. The list of good things to say about this game goes on and on.
N64.... anyone remember those huge blisters you get from mario party?
Commodore 64 FTW!
The Commodore 64 is the best selling single personal computer model of all time.[1] Released in August 1982, the Commodore 64 is commonly referred to as the C64 (sometimes written C= 64 to mimic the Commodore company logo) and occasionally known as CBM64 (its model designation), C-64 or VIC-64 (a label used by some users, magazine writers, third party advertisements and also by Commodore in Sweden [1]). The Commodore 64 casing has affectionately been nicknamed the "breadbox" and "bullnose" due to its shape. Introduced by Commodore Business Machines in August 1982 at a price of US$595, it offered 64 kilobytes of RAM with sound and graphics performance that compared favourably with IBM-compatible computers of that time. During the Commodore 64's lifetime (between 1982 and 1994), sales totaled around 17 million units.[2]
Over 10,000 titles
Might & Magic I & II
Bards Tale
Original Spy Hunter
Pitfall
Summer Games
Boulderdash
Ace of Aces
Forbidden Forest (quite possibly the cheesiest most violent game of it's time)
*** Edited when I saw that the price point closely resembles that of the current PS3 system, I wonder where this one will end up in history***

I had this console. It's the only one I've ever owned.
It plays Pong variants and needs batteries.
My favourite old school game would have to be Monster Mazogs. This is the first computer game I owned that I didn't have to manually type in myself. It cost £4.99 back in 1981 and made a great break through in graphics. Using only a software enhancement it jumped screen resolutions from 30x20 to 60x40. It was the technology title of it's day and is the no.1 best selling ZX81 game of all time.
It's a maze game, you have to follow the "this way" signs before it times out. Each time you pick up a sword you can kill 1 mazog. I think I got it to load successfully 3 times.
It runs on this 1k miracle of computation.
