I think everquest was just horrible, but DAoC is pretty good i found.

Asheron's Call has one of the best comunities I've ever encountered in a mmorpg.

Definately Anarchy Online!  I haven't met a single person I don't like yet!  (Well maybe one or two :P)

Very friendly, helpful community, with alot of player events like Weddings, raids, etc.

Sometimes, it is better to say nothing at all. Cause big mouths results in big words, and big words travel like bacteria.

if you ask 10 people you'll get 10 different answers.

Personally, I though EQ had the best community I'd ever been apart of.  You just have to know where to look and what to look for.

    Socializer 73%
    Explorer 66%
    Achiever 53%
    Killer 6%

    Killer 100% Socializer 40% Explorer 33% Achiever 27%

DAOC has the best community as far as social events, gatherings, etc. However, you need to develop contacts and people can be aloof for if you are a stranger. But, once you get known in the server, people can be very friendly. AO has a friendlier community and it is easy to start up conversations or get help. You will hardly ever be lonely in AO, but don't expect many social events or large gatherings. I think part of this has to do with size and /level command. In DAOC, there many servers and realms and many people play on alt that they can start quickly with /level. So, you don't always know who is who. However, in AO there are less servers and no realm fractions. There is no /level command so names get more stuck in your memory. Plus, in DAOC it is about leveling and people can jump from group to group with ease. Try to jump out of a group in the middle of a mission in AO!!! When you start a group mission, your team depends on you for success.

I'd say ATITD (A Tale in the Desert) or Eternal Lands (free mmorpg in open beta currently). Eternal Lands I have only played for 2 days, and found mostly everyone will help you. There isn't a big community outside of the game, but people gladly help you in the game even if it means taking 30 minutes to show you something. ATITD on the other hand has a big community outside the game, and it's got a wonderful community in the game. I just closed my account on this game, since I'm waiting for Face of Mankind to come out. This game is simply wonderful, and it's got a non-combat system which is pritty cool. I played ATITD for 11 months, and it was fun every single second. It was definately hard leaving all the good friends in that game, but life moves on even though it took 5 times for me to finally quit the game (addicting).

Before EA started working on Ultima Online, Ultima by far had the best 'Roleplaying' community. It still has one of the most outstanding wealth of RPer's, along with a gameplay still unreached by many other mmorpg titles.

I'd say Anarchy Online, without a doubt. They have the most mature community I've ever seen in any game, especially in their forums. I've been playing AO for 2 years and immature players have been a rare sight.

    Currently playing:
    * City of Heroes: Deggial, Assault Rifle/Devices Blaster. Server: Defiant.
    * City of Villains: Snakeroot, Plant/Thorns Dominator. Server: Defiant.

    MMORPG's have communities?

I would think a community is what you bring into it. If your a good community member, you'll find others of the like.

It's all about what you bring into the hobby on what you take out of it.

Make no mistake, MMORPG's are not games, they are hobbies. If you have a job, you'll need to give up watching TV in order to play one. You'll be better off for it.

Achievers realise that killers as a concept are necessary in order to make achievement meaningful and worthwhile (there being no way to "lose" the game if any fool can "win" just by plodding slowly unchallenged). -bartle
