That's your opinion, one which I will respectfully disagree with.
Thankfully NCSoft continues to support the game and the community.
care to comment on why or do you only do seven word sentences?

Too bad for you.
THIS GAME ROCKS. CHECK IT OUT!
Especially since the latest update 3. The PVP aspect of the game just got 10 times better and if you havn't checked it out (it was released yesterday) then you actually have NO IDEA of what you are talkin about.
So go ahead and add 10 word comments, but at least base what you say on some RECENT experience..

Thank you for congratulating me, I will make sure I +1 in all your threads from this day forth.
I shall only say that I tried it, and thought it was absolutely bollocks due to lack of immersion, poor missions and no community.

It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.
Auto Assault is a pretty damn good game.

I have been eye-ing this game for a while. Should I pick it up?
What is the grind like?
Can it be played with only a few hours a week?
Is there a gear grind as well?
How fast is the action?
These would definetely help me decide. Thanks

The MMO gaming blog I write for.
I hear its being given away for free now (USA) when you buy other MMOG's tho you shouldn't let that put you off from trying it out. OFC theres still a monthly fee.
The game got a late release with pretty much zero advertising hence the low population (iirc around 11.000 subs).
If you only want to play a few hours a week its ideal as you can spend little time on it and advance a lot.
Level caps at 80 and you can hit that in a week to a month depending on how often you play.
End game is PVP and with the recent Update 3 patch (2 days ago) a lot of the bugs have been squished that most MMOG's suffer from when they first start.
You can pretty much solo it to 80 altho there are times when you may need some help and forming a convoy isn't hard by just asking in the factional chat channel for some help.
Bosses drop some of the best loot as usual with most other things including buildings etc dropping materials needed to craft with.
Yeh the missions may get a bit repetitive at times. Go get this or kill that or race to here etc but ultimately its just a way of levelling to get to the end game content. Thats where the real fun starts if you're into PVP.
OKay, first off, no PVP kills don't drop loot. But they do drop tokens with which you can buy uber gear.
But don't worry about being the only one without uber gear as there are level 80 bosses that also drop equivalently good gear so you won't be waiting for your 5000th token just to get a decent weapon.
Chassis (your vehicle you travel in) start out pretty slow but get faster and aquire more space to stash dropped items in as you level up. So don't be expecting to start off with a very fast chassis. Bikes are also available after level 25 or so but only to the stealth classes.
Weps and chassis are class and level dependent but the drop rates are pretty good. You can also buy chassis and gear (powerplants, armor, turret and front weps, melee weps, rear drop weps, hazard kits, ornaments etc).
3 factions to choose from; Humans,Mutants,Biomeks each with its own story line.
4 classes in each; stealth-tank-support-pet class
Arena battles so you don't have to wait till level 80 to get a taste of PVP altho consumables aren't allowed in the arenas so its a slightly more balanced PVP rather than who has the most health packs or buffs.
One server (as the European and US servers got merged) called NEXUS.
So expect to find players on at all times and from all over.
Its also because of this that depending on WHEN you log on, you may or may not see a lot of players around.
Helpful community as a whole, just ask for help or advice anytime in your faction chat channel. If you don;t find them helpful, maybe you should try another faction, but Mutants and Meks are the best!
Quite a few clans setup aswell if thats your thing. Crafting is okay, but is still being developed (waiting on auction houses next).
I would summarise by saying that the dev team have put a lot of hard time and work into making this a great game. Sure it still room to develop (like crafting) but but as a whole the devs have been really interactive with the whole community in asking what we want and how we feel about changes to the system. This is what keeps me into the game aswell as the fact that its a blast!
Endgame PVP is awesome with much speed (again depending on class) and firepower flamethrower nukage ramming going on.Its not just a hold down the fire button and drive game either (when it comes to PVP). Theres a complex deflection/penetration/resistance system underlying it all that requires some working out to get a good build. PVE is slightly less hectic, but still offers a challenge.
MAny variants of weapons too. SO tactics do come into play as well as group convoy style battles where who you are fighting with can have a massive impact on your defeat or victory.
No death penalty either.
Okay advertising mode off...try it out..14 day free trial at bottom of this post!

"It is the nature of herds that they flock to where there are more of the same not more quality."
I cant believe people can actually say the game sucks... i bought it and played it for a month, it was pretty fun, ok it grow old quick, but i had a blast... the game really doesnt suck, it's very fun, for a month , better than a lot of other games that actually sucks, like DnL, DDO and others and where you cant seem to have fun for more than 2 or 3 hours without having an urge to throw the game out the window.
For me a game that sucks is one where playing feels like a job where you pay to work... and when playing AA it definitely doesnt feel like work.
I was a beta tester and early subscriber. I do see merit in that game, but it got a little repetitive. I'm curious about the PVP though. Exactly how has it changed in your words? Has the lvl cap be reduced (that to me is the biggest problem)
There was a time when Bounty HUnters (HUman stealth class) ruled the wastes because of a few skill exploits that hadn't been corrected/balanced. Those issues have now been dealt with. SOme of us stuck around to playtest the updates as they came and help fix the balance issues, some didn't and left out of frustration.
Now a lot that left are returning.
I mean when a solo player can waltz into an outpost cloaked - no skill a large group of players within skill landing radius - unleash an alpha strike that can pretty much 1 shot kill you - and then recloak and vanish...you kind of get a bit pissed off.
This is no longer possible and the game enjoyment has increased tenfold. Ofc those that chose to use these exploits constantly are now pissed off, but they like the rest of us will just have to adapt.
There was a time (same time as above) when an Agent (biomek stelath class) wouldn't spec any Active skills because of the above situations. There was no point relying on skills if you are just gonna get no-skilled. And so we adapted and learned to use passive skills and weapon damage. And thats how we managed to stick it out for about 5 months within frustrating scenarios of mass ganking and factional under population.
It has been worth it, and we are now seeing the results of a dedicated playerbase who are intent on getting skills 'balanced' and not just for their own faction but to make the game even more enjoyable.
Balance is still going on and isn't completely finished. Right now, the Mutants have the upper hand with DEflection being reinstated back into the game. Their factional main strength. They too had to put up with months of being nerfed (no deflection skills) and are now reaping the rewards. So its natural now to see a lot of former humans now playing Mutants...lol.
Biomek virus skills were slightly nerfed in that they were given spread generations (the amount opf times a virus can spread from one target to another) and the ability to be resisted by a target. This was pre update 2.
As for the level cap, I heard that way back in Beta it was like 120 or something. If you were playing back then, then yes, its now 80. If not, then no its still 80.
Also the skill ranks and cost per rank have been reduced in all factions so this has fixed the problem of not having enough points to max different skills and you used to end up with 1 build thats goods for 1 style of play.
Its still kind of like this, but I think if you invest in too many skills in any RPG you are gonna end up with an inneffective character.
I have to agreee with you there but I have to also be honest and say that after levelling 1 character of a faction, for me personally, levelling another character of that faction becomes boring because of the same missions etc. Although you do have the knowledge and experience gained from the first time round. But thats just me, some enjoy it more.
PS: Forgot to add that also when you are levelling adifferent character class from same faction, there is the enjoyment of learnming new skills and a different style of play/tactics/role so that kind of makes up for the repetitive missions that you have already done on a different character class.

ok Ive never played auto assault but I am thinking about checking it out soon but to all those that say "this game sux", Well Ive played every mmorpg that exist's today includind WoW,eve,eq2,ryzom, all of those games are rated high on this site and every single one is complete and utter trash imho, let me explain:
WoW = "heal me you f**king n00b, ffs I hope you mom dies of an heart attack", you think this happens occasionaly? sorry every single group I was in and I played for 4 months. Oh yes and raid raid raid or die, very fun "sarcastic switch off"
eve = very nice people, very complex and heart warming with the amount of depth however sorry to say, very very boring
eq2 = grind, grind, grind group, group, group, raid raid raid, imho total boring crap
ryzom = nice people, nice skills but again lacking in a huge injection of fun so if it aint fun it aint a game
and you who say auto assault sux I think you really need to take a look around for the other options in the mmorpg genre today before making a comment like "this sux" about a mmorpg
And no im not a mmorpg hater I loved swg before nge it was my ideal mmorpg and also I am excited about some soon to be released.
Damn it I despise the "this sux" crowd, learn new words people, I dont like this game because............... is a good start.
1) The grind is quite minimal you can level solo on quests alone. It has 80 levels, initially at release level 65+ had some sparsity of questing and the grind was not so great. But I believe that is mostly rectified by now.
2) N oquestion you can play with only a few hour a week and have a lot of fun. Defintely a great casuaul game.
3) gear is a random drop like diablo, but with a crafting system to get specific things you want. Crafting is interesting and complex and gathering is based on destroying thing in the environemnt. AA has a destructiable evironemnt (Ie. you can destroy buildings and bolckades) and this drops crafting mats as do mobs.
4) Action is extremely fast. You can ride around on motorcyles at 100mph+. Corpse have ragdoll phsyics and can obstruct you. You can plow into things and spalter infantry or bash up other cars (don't ram a tank in a car that hurts alot) or shoot and try to kite from range. Also it dpends on what class and the kind of vehicle you drive. Tanks and semi trucks are slower than motorcyles or faster cars. And various chassis have better turning or traction than others. Traction is important and the environment affects that. Slow if you are fighting in snow don't rely on tight turns etc.
Now for other things I think are worth mentioning:
- The class system is basically a class/feat system with factional differences like DAoC. Not my preferred system but its ok. When I played Humans had a large pop imbalance.
- There are no humanoid avatars except in a town. You are the car you leave town in for the most part.
- The action is fun, but it lacks a lot of the instance/dungeon crawls that are the real attraction of games like WoW. There are some instances and they have added more but you are usually doing in world killing for quests. For some people this gets old. Persoanlly I think the combat of AA is less boring than most other MMOs and it can just be kinda fun to crusie around and destroy stuff to get crafting mats and have corpses get dragged around on your bumper. But it can get repetitive. Not truly grindy but a bit repetitive. If they had a a bit more switch up in gameplay I would probably still be playing.
Hmmm thinking about my Bounty Hunter make me wanna resub. I liked my motorcyle. Painted all balck and it went vrooooooooom nicely.
Hmm, ok...that does interest me a bit. Ok SNK, may I ask another question?
Is there a good range of missions throughout the lvls?
and more, how is the server population and how fast does one typically level?
The missions are plentyful mostly and if you just do missions you can pretty much level up to 80 with minimal grinding.
Levelling speed depends on your play style. YOu leave the tutorial map at level 3 and its possible to hit level 20 in 2 or 3 days. So you could hit level 40 in 5/6 days and level 60 in 2 weeks. Once you hit level 74, there are PVP missions and also outpost missions to gain xp so hitting 80 from 74 is usually pretty fast.
There may be a few spots that you find hard to complete solo. In this case you can group up or grind till you out level the mission/boss and it becomes easier. Mob names are color coded so you can tell which are more dangerous to you (purple) and also which are more likely to therefore give more xp or loot. Either way its solable or group play.
I can't really give you accurate figures on server population. Last I heard was about 11,000 subs but thats an old figure. Probably more now. But you will see players around on most of the maps. Just don't expect to see WOW crowded places except at Ground Zero and some towns.

"It is the nature of herds that they flock to where there are more of the same not more quality."
if i could afford to support it theres no doubt i would =]
also just like the OP said, most of the bugs are fixed (in 2 weeks right after launch i didnt see any bugs)
the community is good and although missions can be a little boring, theyre a lot better than any other mmo i have ever played
and i dont think this game is going anywhere soon.. i mean cmon we STILL have SWG - now THERES a game that truely sucks :P
You level quite nicely unless you hit a missions gap.
Everyone is on one server so the population is fairly decent, but again depends on faction.
All in all AA is actually a very nice complement to Eve, if one doesn't mind paying for two games. They are very different but each makes up for the others weaknesses.
