Ok, you know how whenever anyone says anything that'd be cool there's always people saying how hard it'd be, or that today's tech ain't good enough? I don't know if this idea would work, but I'll post it anyway.

Ok, the game would have several servers(Even though I dislike that, It is a must...) but the areas within the servers would be on separate servers of their own. like one country would be on a different server and when you wanted to cross it would like you up to the other server(Like a world pass in FFXI.). Like mini-servers within a server, only they'd be like strong and such so that they could support all the stuff needed for my aforementioned creations.

I don't know much about this stuff, so I don't know if it's doable or not, but it sounded good when it popped into my head.

They have had area servers since UO days. Even though you were on one shard, the shard was broken down to different servers that were responsible for different areas within the game.

Crap! Whenever I think I've come up with a novel idea it's been done. Sorry for wasting your time. If there are area servers then howcome people said that servers wouldn't be powerful enough? Weak servers... Really thought I had something too.

     Ignore my last post...

It's that people want a game like UT2004 with over 100 people in a given area and if you look at one map in UT2004 as a given area, it's not going to hold 100 people plus NPC's and still allow you to do things as you would in UT2004. There's also the latency issue again. MMORPG's have to work on lowering bandwidth per clients. So even if you are pinging very low to the server, you still aren't getting much data back and forth.

Too bad they can't segment the servers to have a personal area around the characters that moves around the large base server... Anyway, thank you for the information. <Insert crackpot idea here>, no really, It'll work. My dream's become a giant diaper load from the great baby in all of us.

Unfortunately that would involve a dynamically shifting segment for every player online. It's not economical.

I was actually joking about the segmenting thing. image I'd have better luck trying to hang myself with floss then I would at coming up with an idea that'd even half-way work. Then again, if you bound the floss it'd work. Maybe I just need some sleep.
