Have they started to blame the player base yet for all their troubles?  That is usually the last sign before death.

Started to blame the playerbase yet? That's been standard practice since the CU, everytime they screw up or get called out on another lie they blame the players. I noticed many canned responses that usually went something like "You ask for this, we're only doing what you wanted" or "If players stopped whining and made constructive posts we could get things done." or "Being a DEV isn't easy and you're making our jobs harder. The more you complain about bugs the longer it's going to take us to fix them!".

Someone tell me how not complaining about a faulty product gets it repaired quicker than if you just shut up and say nothing? Though with the NGE they got past the "blame the playerbase for our ineptness" and moved on to the "Delete all threads/posts except ones created by butt kissing rabid NGE fanbois." strategy. They shut down the chatroom they used to have at the station login because people were complaining and threatening to cancel. So instead of addressing a problem they blame/mute those who complain about it and watch the playerbase dwindle, leaving only rabid SW fanbois and simpletons (I say simpletons because the NGE was made to attract them by "dumbing it down").

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

Funny you should mention the chat room on the launchpad Agricola1.

I used to spend time there when I wasn't playing but on the computer.

When the NGE went on the TC, the most common question that players came there to ask (and only a few CSR's replied to) was "How do I cancel? There's no cancel button anywhere!"

I must have helped on average 20 people per day that the NGE was on TC to cancel their accounts. And I was on there for only like..1 hour a day. I think you can imagine how many peolpe came in there asking that exact question hehe. It's no wonder they shut it down, cuz that was the first place they came looking for answers on how to quit the game image

Just to counterpoint with my second trial on Intrepid.

Last log in.. 32 people on the server. (Saturday PRIME TIME)

You are lucky to have your home be one of the 2 reasonably-populated servers in the game. Go ahead, make an alt on some others. You'll be shocked.

And as far as the maturity level of the game... here's a quote from one of my friends still playing.

Sometimes I feel like Im in a new MMO called Home Depot Online...surrounded by tools and nobody around to help me find the exit - Shinjo, Intrepid Galaxy

It sounds great, so great in fact, I pitty those who canceled :( - Some deluded SWG fanboi who pities me.
I don't like it when you say things. - A Vanguard fan who does too.

Hey Obraik I know you useally defend the current state of crafting in the NGE so I was wondering if you like how crafting systems work in loot based games like EQ or WoW? Is this one of those disagreements between Quest vs Sandbox playstyles?

Because in beta and there at launch and well into the game pre-CU it was more of a game... even with the issues , the pros out weighed the cons.

It was more of a game then, not only that more people and the belief it would keep getting better, instead of regressing.

I paid them willingly for that product because at that time, it made more sense and was a indepth MMO that needed work.   The promises made and things said at the fan fests and forums were promising.

We trusted what they said and I myself thought they would make good on them.

    I was wrong...

They assumed making the game easier and more basic was the answer... looks like they were wrong.

When you take away somthing or change somthing in the game that was viable and important to most then it caused a ripple effect.

Every nerf, every bug created it got worse.   Then the CU, it was major and a mistake itself it should have been better... Needless to say the NGE was a "mistake" as it is called and was the worst idea for a MMO ever.  (Again based on facts of just how it turned out).

None the less, we started out right but needed fixes... not nerfs and core game changes.

The CU was the start of the mess more or less.   From then on it got bad..

I gave the game a month and I'll agree with a lot of what you said, there were a few people around on Bria but since its one of a few non-desert-like server it's not saying too much.

I found the lag annoying considering there weren't that many people there, but mostly the lack of diversity and the instant gratification of the game through respec npc's etc made me bored with swg in about a couple of weeks and I can't bear to log back in since gameplay is too one-dimensional.

OK I remember midway through pre-cu  everyone was itching to try out WoW and servers seemed quiter than they were, but they would return and show up more and more frequently since many felt that WoW wasn't for them and came back to a game they felt really had something unique about it.

Unfortunately SOE never put in the work required to get the game up to an acceptable level of completion, they were 60-70% there and it was still an amazing game hands down beating the absolute crap out of the NGE. The NGE is at about the same level of completion but it's very boring to watch and play. Expertise seems to accomplish half of what the foodbuff system did in pre-cu in regards to character skill diversity and that's about it, there will be very little added for combat toons now I imagine apart from a few loot weapons or stims etc. Sad , too sad.

May I ask then...why exactly is he still playing? And if you want to get technical, you stated that there were 32 people on at prime time Saturday, and that your friend felt like he was at "Home Depot..." and was "surrounded by tools...", but in reality, there are much more tools are The Home Depot than 32. I mean you have your hammers, screwdrivers, paintbrushes, door hinges...I mean you can't just rule all those good tools out can you? Not to mention they have Christmas supplies too! And grills....oooo grills...

Just doesn't sound like the game is much fun now... or has any depth...

I always wanted to play SWG...but looks like I'll have to wait for the next incarnation.

Disease may not be strong enough.  Alcholism is considered a disease along with diebetes.  I think a  plague is  warranted here.  A plague will rip through and destroy a given population in a matter of days--much like a SWG patch.

    Good point.

I just feel sorry for the playerbase that is left... they are fooled each day into thinking this is the "norm" way to be treated when playing a MMO I think.

I really do wonder if some know what they are paying for??   I just have to keep hope that common sense and KARMA will prevail in the end.   I just do.
