Great PUG experience

Last night I decided to work on a alt Sorc. that I rolled on Fernia.    I wanted to tell my experience from as of last night to reflect on the current state of the game, not what CaptainRPG is pulling out of his arse trying to lure people away from a game that he doesn't even play.

Last night I login to Fernia at approx. 8pm central as my Sorc. Elwina.  Elwina is a Sorceress, and as such one of the classes that one would assume at least at lower levels would have a hard time getting a group given what CaptainRPG says.   But this wasn't the case, as finding a group isn't that hard.

No sooner than I completed the intro solo quest upon landing in the Harbor I put up my LFG tag upon stepping outside to the Harbor iteself.   Within a minute tops I had already gotten a tell asking me to join a group running the lowbie quest.  The initial makeup was a Wizard, a Paladin and myself.    We plowed thru the quest near the trainers and did the three quest that the dude (can't remember his name ever) gives you right outside the starting point outside the tavern.   The group was doing great but we decided we wanted to tackle some of the longer quest and later on that night Waterworks so the party leader put up a LFM in the social tab.   Within 5 minutes we had a full group of six made up of two wizards, two paladins,  a Rouge and myself the Sorceress.

If you are used to other PUG from games like WoW and EQ2 you know that it is a given that almost everytime you are in a PUG for more than 30 minutes the group is going to end up wiping, and someone leaving once you attempt the longer quest.   Well this wasn't the case with the PUG I had last night in DDO.  6 unknown strangers plowed through the quest right and left on normal, then hard and sometimes elite.  We did Butcher's Row, and all the other harbor quest and then decided to hit Waterworks.  We did so on hard without a healer.   There wasn't a single wipe the entire instance.   No one ran ahead like a wild man like in other games I have played.    And thanks the chest providing seperate loot tables for each member of the party there wasn't any threats of Ninja Looters and such.

I am not saying that this is the case for every PUG in DDO.   But out of the dozens of PUGs I have been a part of only one was a bad one, and another one was questionable.   Tell me what other game you can partake in a as many PUG without issues?    Of course a lot of this has to do with the players that play DDO are more mature.  And because DDO isn't as forgiving when it comes to health and mana regen.

DDO isn't perfect.  But it is a fun game.  It doesn't deserve CaptainRPG's constant dribble and attacks.   Please give it a try and see what all the fun is about.

I agree, this game is fantastic. I dont known why there is so much hate towards it. I'm definatly going to pick up a copy befor AoC comes out. (Only on a trial right now)

I would have to say DDO and COV/COH are the easiest I've found to get groups in. The new grouping tab in DDO is awesome. I like the hover over to see what classes they got already and who is in it so if you had a bad experience with someone and see them in there you don't have to send a tell.

AC2 was another not so hard to find a group, even with low pops it was pretty easy to find people to do something with.

Yeah all the social tab features are certainly the best of any of the number of MMOs that I have played.  I hate to say it but when I play my healer I often will skip groups with Warforged in it just because I don't want to have to blow wands curing them.   Nothing against Warforged I have a WF Barb that I solo play.   But at any rate I know what you mean about the LFG/LFM tab rocking.

Yes, Fernia and my friend was on Reidra. Fernia from my understand seem to be giving away stuff as my friend got +1 Full plate and 200 pp. Either it's a desparate move to keep players or the game is breeding ground for powergamers. Again, look for my friend Armia who is a paladin, if and when he gets on.

You are full of it.  Who gave him 200pp and +1 full plate because I want to get the same deal.   All you get on Fernia like any other server is the basic no trade starter gear.   The more you talk the more you prove you are a complete idiot making up crap as you go alone.   I love how it is a "friend" of yours.  I will certainly look him up tonight.

I'm not playing, he is. I'm not sure why maybe it's because he just started a new character on that server last night. I'm not playing, but he told he already has +1 full plate armor. Some lady in wizard robe handed him 2,000 pp (I stand corrected) and a +1 full plate. It's a Black color with a red rose on it.

I believe I noted that someone did the same thing with me the last I was there.

The warforged people that I've grouped with seem to know they are hard to heal and bring their own wands. I seen them back out of a fight fast enough to use their wands to heal themself. I didn't know this when I started DDO, cause I'm new to the rules and I just assumed this person had mucho hit points. It was when I read up more on the game I learned that.

Have you experienced that neuronomad that warforged players seem to bring their own wands with the ones you've grouped with?

Whoa, a little update here, but my friends getting pissed off that people keep giving him enchanced equipment. Just a minute ago, he received a +3 leather armor playing as a Ranger on Xoriot, +1 shortsword, +1 dagger and +1 Comp Bow. Does everyone in DDO powergame?

He also even complained of lag issues even though his settings were turn to low. Half of the lag came from the new social panel because he had to turn off the auto-search panel or something. The situation is getting worse than the last time I was there.

Tell me what server, you want to meet him on and I tell him meet you there with the equipment he has. ROFL-LMAO! I'm dead serious and I'm calling you out. DDO is doing wonderful job driving their players away and killing the fun factor of the game because they are a community powergamers giving away free stuff to noobs with little effort.

I dont see the problem here... +1 shortsword, +1 com. bow etc.. that is stuff you get from level 1 quest rewards... A +3 leather armour on the other hand, is next to impossible to find for a level 1... but, whats the big deal? he cant use it untill level 4 anyway...

Actually, he's wearing it now. There seems to be no item restriction. He doesn't like the fact that everyone can get enchant weapons off the bat. I believe another poster stated they didn't like how people knew DDO in and out. Well think giving him armor is the same thing. In my opinion, it's probably means people take this game likely rather than fun.
  • BesCirgaBesCirga Member Posts: 806
Then you have to congratz him on level from me, because for anyone even to be close to wear +3 items, it needs to be race restriced. impossible for a level 1 and wear +3 items. But, if he dont like the "gifts", dont accept the trade.
  • neuronomadneuronomad Member Posts: 1,276
I don't see an issue with this either.  I have some alts that are level 2 or 3 and they have a few +1 items .  It's not game breaking.  It's not like the "Sword of a Thousand Truths" or anything like that.   You can get +1 items from starting quest like Healing Elixer,  and such that Goodblade (or whatever his name is gives you).

If anything I love the way loot and rewards work in DDO.   Unlike WoW DDO isn't as gear based anyway.  It is more about choosing the right build.

And 2000 Plat in DDO isn't hard to come by.   By the time you get to level 2 or 3 if you have been looting every chest, and selling most all of your pots and scrolls and such you should have 25-30 plat.   If someone has played a while and looted a lot I don't see why it would be such an amazing feat that they would have 2000 plat to give away, even more so if they were leaving the game.

I know while I was playing both WoW and EQ2 there was times that I would decide to quit a toon on a given server that I would have a fair amount of gold (or plat in EQ2) and I would just give it away to some low level just to be nice.  I would guess that this would be the same type thing.

Also just because a low level character has plenty of plat or gear to give away doesn't mean that they managed to loot it all with that given toon.  Maybe they mailed it to themselves from their main.   I do that all the time.   Twinking isn't just limited to DDO.

I play on Sarlona with a dedicated gaming group. I meet once a week with this group and we only use our characters in the group, so they are always the same level and on the same quest. One of the rules is no twinking. I believe as do they, that twinking ruins the fun in the game. I know other people in other games do it too, but I hate it in those games aswell. By twinking, you make that duneon easier and less fun than it would have been if you wore level appropriate gear.

However, I don't think that CaptainRPG's friend has anything to complain about. After all, he could have turned the gifts down.

Actually it is gear based. Equipment that increases your person ability to do their action makes a huge difference in this game as it does every other game. A Fighter in DDO is just as depended on Reflex and Will saving equipment as Warrior in WoW is dependant on element resistant gear and mind-immunity trinkets. In order to make certain builds work, they certain equip to do it. You can't use a Full plate for the entire game, you eventually have to upgrade your gear so you won't get hit as much. WoW has the same thing seeing as I played to level 60 with three classes. Reality is you left WoW because you have an inferior complex, don't like to compete with others and you have bad social skills. I know this not just because of past arguments, or Sevenwind statement about WoW he made in the other topics, but because constantly remind us that WoW is gear based when you fail to see that DDO falls into this same traps.

I remember the prices of the pots and scrolls and they were about 20 gold.

The reason he goes this, doesn't matter and trying to come up with an excuse isn't going to null the fact, they were people can give away stuff without restriction. It defeats the purpose of playing the game and it hurts newbie atmosphere when someone gives you item that reduces pressures of the game.

That only makes the community worse that it exist there because when exchanging items goes uncontrolled it a defeats the difficulties set on quests.

I don't think he has bad communication skills. He's able to get groups just fine from what he says. I'm able to get groups just fine in DDO without much time searching. I search longer for groups in EQ2/EQ than I do in DDO, and remember I play on the "empty server" as you say, Riedra.

The only comment I think I ever said about WoW is that I played it for maybe two months and got to lvl 11 before quiting. The game didn't appeal to me. I don't do pvp. I played on the PVE server in WoW, and the PVE server in DAOC. If pvp is your cup of tea then by golly have fun. I don't like it.

I have NEVER stated why I left WoW.   It certainly wasn't because of anyone else or any complex on my part.   Nice flame about my social skills by the way.
