My ex-wife had just gotten a job at Wal-Mart around the time the whole sexual harrassment class action lawsuit thing was happening. They put her in the lay-a-way section to start. On her third day there, she had to pull stock from the storage bins they keep in back of the store. 11p.m., no security, no employees around, no lighting except for a flashlight. Her job ended the next day with a shouting match between me and the store manager in the middle of the store while it was nice and busy. My opinion, Wal-Mart can lick my left testicle to make my right one jealous.

That's the funniest thing I've read in a long, long, long time.

Dude, you're 2 and a half times my age and even I know that's just ridiciluous. Who the hell ever got rich by not parasiting on someone or something else? That's actually impossible. The soul of human economy is to create a situation where wealth will flow from the weak to the rich.

It's called, the whole class now, BI-O-LO-GY.

Then try Socialism and fall flat on your face.

Ok class, since we all ignored BI-O-LO-GY we will now play a little game that has no point whatsoever. But it's good preperation for your carreer.

Scandinavia is socialist.  It's doing better than the US in many, many fields. Luxembourg is socialist. And in other places in the world (maybe even the same ones I gave as example... now don't be shocked, the next few words might rock your world) don't (you better sit down) believe in good (neo-conservatism/communism/capitalism/cheerioism/whatever) and bad (socialism/tits/porn/sex/drugs/rock 'n roll/wall mart/tits/whatever) and just do whatever they HAVE to do.

Walmart is a good company in terms of economy & profit, But this topic is about how Wal - mart treats its employee's & its effect on the full market.

Before someone mouths of at me, I'm not taking sides. there are no wal marts over here.

Wal-Mart treats its employees well, and its employees treat the customer well. But here’s the paradox. It is not just a kindly gentleman handing out smiley faces as you enter or a liberal return and exchange policy that demonstrates Wal-Mart’s care for customers. It is all that plus the management excellence to get the right product to the right store at the right time at the right price.

Put another way, customer service is more than being nice. It is organizing the enterprise to make and keep promises to the customer on a day-in, day-out basis. Relentless consistency keeps customers coming back. We scarcely notice how Wal-Mart keeps the shelves stocked, the inventory rotated or the assortment updated, because we have come to expect it.

Put aside how Wal-mart treats its staff/customers, put aside its success as a company, put aside its effects on the economy and think about this my outrageously conservative friend.

America is heading down a path towards less/no freedom, and eventually will become in effect a police state or worse (read 1984 by George Orwell to get a rough idea), by this time the world may already be fucked, buts its a very gradual process and I dont expect many people to see it the way I do.

What Wal-Mart represents is cheap goods, however the quality is still reasonable, why? because there is still competition in the market, what if small stores and smaller chains dissappeared, and suddenly you would have just a handful of 'Wal-Mart like' discount chains. You would being to see this standard of quality drop, because they would be able to get away with it.

In Australia something similar is already becoming apparent, and it saddens me, one of the largest chains - Coles, used to stock all brands, now they have begun introducing their own Coles brand, and guess what, those Frozen Wedges you once bought from so-and-so are now much crapper Coles brand Wedges. (just and example) How are they getting away with it? by forcing suppliers to sell under the Coles brand name, otherwise their goods will not be bought at all. Now this situation may differ from what is happening in America with Wal-Mart, but both will yield the same end result - crapper quality products.

You might be wondering where im getting with this, but put this in conjuction with laws such as the Patriot Act and other freedoms being challenged and you will begin to picture an American standard of living that can barely be called a 'living'.

You may think I'm completely way off, but as I said before its a very gradual process, but it is happening. All politics/governments come and go in revolutions, read: http://www.socrtwo.info/socrates.htm (just a brief read, but its far more complex in Socrates' full works), and America is only just beginning on their a downward decline.

Now I am no doomsayer, something special may happen to make a turn of events, but the conservative path American is taking at the moment will eventually lead them there. And you may blabber on about the constitution and how this could never happen, but with laws such as the patriot act and the condoning of toture in some situations (once again an example), we can  see that the constitution is beginning to mean squat.

Dude, 1984 is childs play. It's for babies. The tactics and such described in that book are laughable.

The US (and many western nations) are heading towards a cliff with a huge smile on their faces. In 194 everyone was on the edge of a cliff and being really unhappy about it.

The current system of capitalism and the current way the media plays you is so refined it would make Orwell blush.

Bigdavo, i'm an Aussie too, but I've lived in the US and I'll tell you this much: I'd *die* to see a Kroger or Albertson's in this country. They'd give Coles, Woollies and Bi-Lo such a shocking wake-up call it wouldn't be funny.

I miss going into Kroger's huge-arsed stores and having 20 varieties of everything to choose from. The overgrown corner stores that make up 99% of Coles and Bi-lo's here just don't cut it.

It's only a matter of time before the supercentre concept of Wal-Mart and the bigger-is-better idea of places like Kroger makes it to Australia, and this country will have its shopping world rocked.

    Bring it on.

Wal-mart maximizes profit at all costs? Welcome to the business world. If you wanna bitch about Wal-mart's actions, bitch about every other profit-maximizing company in the US.

Wal-mart paid for my business school, and shit is cheap. I'm sorry if the blue collar workers are unhappy. Knock knock guys, there are hundreds of other equally shitty jobs to choose from. Move along.

Damn.. there are two threads on the first page in which I cannot decide completely what my position is (this, and the homosexuality one).  I agree with modjoe to an extent.. but then I feel that robbie was also wronged.

Alright, got room for a third blanket statement? Cause I really really want to contribute! here it is:

I Don't Give a Shit about Wal-Mart. I don't shop there, because Target and Kroger is closer. Injustices happen everywhere if you're looking hard enough (Although in some places, it is in larger quanities) and I have had no personal experiences with Wal-Mart's injustices, as I have Never been raped by a Wal-Mart employee, been declined a job because I'm a man, or refused to kill babies/whatever other evils Wal-Mart does. As such, I Don't Give a Shit.

*Disclaimer* If that post seems weird, I'm not quite sure whats going on, but I think my head is a little fuzzy/weird

thank you for your contribution, but thats not a blanket statement.  you actually backed up your opinions by explaining them a bit.  i was making fun of Tidermans blanket statements by making the opposite statements.  if you truly want to make a blanket statement, you need to be more vague, lol.
