I also think this is the type of game that has alot of room to grow, collecting more ppl as time goes on.

It depends, if you go to this forum http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/109491 there is a hell of lot more haters, who clearly won't buy the game. It all has to do how the game has effected them, more so then none it's the leap to upgrade to the play the game. Which many deem not worth it and in my eyes it isn't either.

Time will tell i guess, i think the game has alot of problems, but i still like it, i dont love it, but it may grow on me. As it stands now, i got no other games to play, so ill try it out and hope for the best after release. Im really lookign forward to alot of games like AoC , warhammer online, gods and heroes...so no worries.

the poll from the link you sent me seems pretty close imo

You tried it, now will you buy it?

I tried it, YES I'll buy it.

    45.8%

I tried it, NO I won't buy it.

    54.2%

Ya but it has been proven by the original poster that most the yes's didn't even read the OP or posted and it gets worse everyday. It's just fanbois clicking yes and leaving but still a 10% difference is noticiable. I will be waiting till AoC, G&H and WAR, until then I wish you best for you and Vsohs and hope to see you in game on the other three listed. Take care.

Well I tried the game on my friend's comp, seemed pretty decent.  I'd probably have considered buying it and playing for oh 2-3 months.  Give it an honest shake.  EXCEPT my PC at home can't handle Balanced, I'd probably have to play it with all settings turned way down. Which I wont do.  And while VG is decent its not good enough for me to want to upgrade my system (gonna go all-out for WAR tho).  So I'll pass.  I guess Sigil priced me out of their market

I don''t really know when Humankind will die out but i''m guessing about 6 years before WOW.

Yup, I post here on the vanguard flameboard everytime theres a crash. Game is getting better and more stable every patch.

O yeah, for the haters. The game you play right now and the ones in the near future (considering not Vanguard) , sucks ass to the fulliest power. "Consider to never procreate because the mentality you possess would enable a child to jepardise the youth of our system and would adopt another form of wasteful space on this planet that is already full of rejects as yourself." (Just quoting what your mother told you)

Ok, let me check if servers are backup.

To be honest, I had never heard of this game until I joined this community. Honestly.

Upon hearing about SOE, I took a mild interest in it and poked around a bit on FAQ's, watched gameplay trailers, etc etc. Sure, the game does look rather spiffy, but after the amount of hate and lack of interest that appears towards the game really makes me wonder.

I ran a test using a game adviser and according to it I could run the game on max settings with little lag from my end. And after seeing all the posts regarding the lag people get, it seems the game is just spontaneous in its decision to work on peoples systems.

I dont really have that much to say, but I cant really see this game doing all that well from the bad publicity its receiving already.

I predict this game will be virtually dead in 4 months... then it's the old free trial and possibly a new expansion to "fix" the game.  It is an evolution of former MMORPGs... They managed to evolve more lag that Shadowbane, more empty space than Horizons, larger UI buttons than WoW, more death penalty than EQ, and more hype than EQII!
I hope that folks didn't give up good jobs to work at Sigil.

and I cannot begin to say how tired I am of people playing something they can't stand then rushing to the forums to let everyone know about it over and over.  Bottom line is that not every game is for every person.  If you don't like the game simply move on.  Coming here and posting a rant does no one any good and the game is not going to magicaly change into something you deem worthwhile.

I'm having a blast and for the first time in many many years I've actually been drawn into the dialogue rather than just clicking through quests.  The character animations are good, the landscape is breathtaking, the combat works - I'm not interested in learning a new combat system although the few perks they have added make it interesting enough.

I have no doubt that they have every debugging tool they have turned on in an effore to stress the systems as much as they can, but for me even with all this I still see an average of 20 FPS on my system and on my wife's system which has 2 video cards in SLI got an acerage of about 30 FPS - in cities - and for you forum bullies out there notice I said an average FPS.

It's a great game and while they did not reinvent the wheel it's one I'll be looking forward to playing.

Agreed, notice also that it is always the same people going on and on about how they hate it etc. I really dont understand why they dont move on, but to TBH, this phenomenon manifested itself in SWG as well. Funny thing is that some of those haters are still going. As you said, not everyone is going to like it, but ffs, if you don't, go and play something else and spare us your predictions of doom et al.

I never post in forums concerning games I don't play. I can't stand WoW and I don't feel the need to show up in the WoW forums and tell everyone how crap I think it is. Show the same courtesy to us. We are enjoying Vanguard and I have no trouble with negative criticism because there are problems that need to be adressed , but the endless hating, predictions of failure and comparisons to WoW etc are getting old and boring.

While I definitely believe in the old adage "to each his own", this statement is just patently false. The combat is target, click, attack. Over and over again. There is no more depth than you would expect to see in just about any other MMO.

That's not to say it's bad. It's just to say that it's not something that would be regarded as "deep". Certainly not "incredibly deep".

"Incredibly deep" would be a system that allowed for player skill and was designed to allow attacks on specific body parts for specific effects, i.e., if I slashed an opponent's leg with a two-handed sword and the attack was successful within a given percentile, it took its leg off at the kneecap and the NPC proceeded to bleed to death while I walked away.

If I "fumbled" while attacking, there was a possiblity that I could injure myself, damage my weapon or both, while also leaving myself open to an attack from my opponent.

"Incredibly deep" would include a positional system where I would get bonuses if I were attacking my opponent from the side or the back. It would also include the ability to knock an opponent off-balance enough so that I could attack from the side or back.

It would include animations that showed the actual effects of a specific attack. If I had a bludgeoning weapon, the effect would be momentary stuns on successful attacks where my opponent reeled around for a moment.

If you "dodge", how exactly was that being graphically portrayed? I wouldn't know, because I never saw my character or an NPC "dodge". We stood across from one another and I attacked and they attacked; there were no fancy moves going on there.

It would include modifiers for darkness that affected the abilities of the combatants relative to their racial abilities or lack thereof.

It would include an NPC that had the good sense to run away when they were getting their backside handed to them, which would coincide with the aforementioned positional modifiers.

If these items were in Vanguard, somehow I missed them.

The NPCs attacked and attacked... and attacked. They had no fear and they made no attempt to run away, regardless of whether they were what would be considered "intelligent" or not.

Although my spells and/or attacks may have missed or failed, I didn't note any negative results besides the failure itself.

If I'm playing a character with some type of night vision and I was fighting a character that lacked it, what bonuses was I getting if it was night time? I have to say, I didn't recall any combat that was easier because it was night time.

These are all elements of what I would call an "incredibly deep" combat system. I have yet to see them in Vanguard.

Again, not to say that combat is deficient. But saying it is "incredibly deep" is more than a slight exaggeration in my opinion.

I'm not a hater or a fanboi.  I'm in the beta, and so far, there's really nothing taking my breath away.  I do admit to having fun with it.  As of now, yes, I plan on buying it, but don't know if I'll play it for years on end, like I did EQ.  (Say what you will, but I think EQ helped pave the way for certain aspects of MMORPGS.)

I am curious about a few things.  The people who are posting that the quests suck and there's no 3rd gen...what, exactly, is 3rd gen supposed to be?  Immersive, RL graphics?  An attachment for my computer that'll squirt warm ketchup on me during melee combat?  Little electrodes that'll shock me or something if i get hit?  Seriously, what is it?

And how should the quests be?  What kind of quests are we talking about?   I'm just curious as to what people want from this, since they're not happy with how it's going.

That's all.  I'll go into my newbie box now.

For myself, to consider an MMO third generation, the very first thing I would do as far as quests go is to completely remove any "Kill X of X" of "Kill X and recover X number of items".

I'd start off with the entry level player on a storyline quest that involved them and reinforced the lore of the game. Even a short storyline quest is better than a kill/collect quest.

Every quest would actually be designed to involve the player; some to a greater extent and some to a lesser extent. There are many examples I could give, if you really want them, but I think that if you play any single-player RPG or read a fantasy novel, you'd get an idea of the kind of quests I personally expect of a third generation MMO.

It's really a question of writing an actual quest as though you are telling a story and not just giving someone menial, repetitious tasks. Although the storyline itself may have some menial tasks in it, it builds towards a point rather than just giving the player busy work.

Most importantly, each quest needs to involve the player in the world and link them with the lore; of their race, their class, their region and the game world in general.

You can insult me all you want :) I got a great job, hot wife, two beautiful children and look good too

Why do I post about a game I'm not happy with... why do people provide feedback on digital cameras, exercise equipment, and everything else... to let people know that they're being deceived.  I feel that more than 75% of the people who buy this game will be let down... right now there is nothing new coming out for several months so folks will probably buy this game in mass.

My recommendation would be to buy a new 360 game or replay NWN2 or Gothic 3... once / if Gothic 3 gets a patch to make it fully functional.

Oh yeah and I'm rich too ... look up all the words you want in the dictionary and thesauras ... you'll still be ugly.

People that still go around thinking "Its still beta it will get better" need to wake up.
Sure if it CLOSED beta 1-2 YEARS before release then sure it will get better. Open beta just before release is 99% what the game will be when released.

    MMO's Played: 20 , Closed Beta: 9 , Open Beta: 3 , Currently:Warhammer Beta
    Guild: Futilez

although VG has come along, I agree with the poster ahead of me, I will never believe the hype again on ANY game. $50 these days(gas prices stink!!, plus every  thing else has gone up)  to some peeps is alot of money.  Not to bash all the way back to Jan 07' but VG was hyped like crazy, I was seeing adds saying 'set yourself free" and "next gen"...what a bad surprize.

Anyhows, VG has come a good way since lauch, SoE take over was a good thing imho, and I hope to play it a year or two from now when I have a l337 rig
