Don't worry anyone who complains about the graphics either 1) Is some fanboy of another mmo or 2) has a crappy computer or 3)doesn't play any mmo because then they'd clearly know the graphics are by far up to par with any leading mmo out on the market. That's the simple fact. If you don't like the style that's fair.. but the graphics aren't bad. If it's not your style.. try  being a little more contrustive with your posts, that's my advice. I have EQ2, WoW, GW, CoH, FFXI and Vanguard's graphics are no worse than any of those.

Doubtful. Plus instancing is used in Border of Kingdowms (PvP)  and the other PvE area as well. In 2007 Vanguard appears to be the biggest MMORPG in regards to square miles.

One thing surprised me about Vanguard is that they used Unreal 2.5 rather then Unreal 3, which was already available when they started the development of Vanguard.  Any in house developed engine in past 2-3 years used now for MMO's would look better then Unreal 2.5,  like AoC and Heroes Journey.

I heard in game that they plan to move to the unreal 3.0 engine some time after release , yes there are alot of bugs , but i think this will be the one for me until warhammer online  , unless this gets so good i cannot leave it , and something inside me hopes for that.

Could someone posting very high detail screenshots please FRAPs short, 10 second videos of you running around in-game, fighting, in town, out of town etc, and post those instead please? That way we can see your FPS, gfx detail etc.

And I say 10sec vids so that you can record on highest quality and framerate, so there is no room for "compression" excuses, and still keep the files pretty small.

I ask this also 'cos I'd just love to see how well the world blends in real time. Only so much you can tell from a screenshot.
Ok, here is have 6 short movies (Maybe abit to short) from me. Sorry about Filefront, but I didn't have any more space on my site.

Note: I tried to make it as neutral as possible. Just recording while I was playing. Also you will see some texture flashing and weird cursor, this is caused by using Fraps. Fraps also takes quite a few fps when recording. All ofcourse unedited game footage.

    Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2,13 Ghz

    2048 Mb Ram

Nvidia Geforce 7600GS 256 Mb Ram

Running the game Balanced/High including .ini tweaks @ 1280x768. Usually around 15-20 Fps avarage. With other words terrible . I think the game has to have some sort of issues with some of my hardware, or drivers. The computer is completely new, freshly installed Windows, newly formated hd's. Even if the Geforce 7600GS isn't the best I expected more. Not only is the fps bad, but the game also "chugs" along when I walk around, like it has hard times loading stuff from the hd. And it almost runs worse than my:

    P4 2.2 Ghz (No HT)

    1024Mb Ram

Ati Radeon 1650Pro 256 Mb Ram

So I can't really enjoy the graphics that much. Also like the last screenshot of the OP might have showed you, there are some terrible ugly stuff around in the world of Telon. But overall, "ok" graphics. ok what do I use to playback these files????

Got latest Divx and Xvid installed.

The Unreal 3 engine wasn't available 5 years ago...  Unreal Tournament 2k4, the game that features the Unreal 2.5 engine wasn't even out at that time.  Also there are compatability issues you have to deal with when switching to the Unreal 3 engine from the Unreal 2 engine.  Its still unclear how the process will work, if it can work.  It could be a completely new architecture behind the engine making it impossible or atleast difficult to do.  Also with how heavily modified the game engine actually is, making the switch will be even more difficult.  Dont trust wikipedia as a source.

Well the graphics are not that bad and look nice, but the game content lacks a lot. I was travelling around on 3 different continents for hours....the world is almost empty and this is really  awfull and reminds me on the Dark & Light beta.  The higher your lvl gets, less quests are available and the quests itself are more or less boring without any exitement. There is no pvp content at all, except factions. All in all i just could net get into it, i missed some feelings, excitement and love about details.

I think what made SWg so special, despite it's problems, was the vast array of community tools available, ranging from cantina's, shops and cities to detailed trading and chat. Even during hunting, you had camps setup so you could chat, talk to people at the starport whilst getting a buff, or pop to the shop for some armour.

It seems to me, what i miss most, is that nowadays, MMO's give you no reason to even acknowledge other players' existance, it's merely who can grind to cap fastest and wtfpwn each other. I don't play MMO's for that, i don't have an e-peen.

Good graphics are nice but it is the game play that makes a game great or not. At the end of the day all that counts is whether you had fun or not when playing. I would not be holding my breath for the 3.0 engine, as others posted Wikipedia is not a source since anyone can submit anything. If you like the game as it is buy it, but never buy for what it might turn out to be. That is a sure way to get disappointed.

    I miss DAoC

The poster a couple above isn't actually running on max settings.

I run the game on max settings at 1920x1200 resolution. The game really is breathtaking. I'll post some screenshots if I can find a good place to host them, they're all over 5mb in size though and I don't want to shrink them and lose any quality.

I play with an e6600, 2gb Corsair Dominator ram, BFG GeForce 8800gtx, on a 24" monitor at 1920x1200 resolution, all settings at max literally. "Highest Quality" setting, all performance sliders at 100%, everything. The game is stunning.

My point all along - well said man. The landscapes and the world are awesome - well laid out and picturesque. However,  all of that is displayed outside the LOD. Up close and personal the textures and surfaces look like they came out of 1st generation low budget EQ knock-off.

Mobs and Griffons look pretty cool up close for me... EQ doesnt have anywhere near this level of detail.

MAybe I should activate the EQ2 trial and make some side by side comparisons.
