yep SWG was big-budget, both in development and on our pockets and in that respect I think it failed to live up to what it should have been, or what was expected certainly. But saying that i'm still enjoying it, there's i'd played DAoC + EQ previously and after playing SWG for about 3 months I went back to DAoC thinking it was much better, but no i then realised how nice SWG was, waypoints are ace, the profession system is excellent, but my (and everyon elese's i tseems) gripe is that there's just not enough content in there, with the only thing you can really do is go around killing stuff.
I just hope EQ2 doesnt' fall foul of the same problem as i'm really looking forward to that one
I wonder about all the big budget MMORPGs that weren't even released, such as UO2, MEO, Citizen Zero, Mythica, Black Moon Chronicles, Midgard, Dune Generations, and Motor City Online. I wonder how bad they really were.
uo2 was early enough to not hurt badly, and im prety sure motor city onlnie was released.. just didnt last long.

OK these people who keep saying EQ2 will fail: Uh why? Because EQ1 is still going strong after 5 years? Most of the people from EQ, present and former will at least give this game a shot. The graphics are better than anything to come out this year, and many other reasons. Just because you arent buying into it doesnt mean 100,000's of others wont, I promise you that.

Well there is alot of evidence supporting that eq2 won't do well. Doesn't mean it will or won't based on previous evidence and what people say but it is the best you can go on until it happens. As for comparing between eq1 and 2 it is like comparing apples and oranges. The only thing that is going to survive, that I have heard anyway, is the names of continents and chars and classes. The actually content is going to be completely different. Alot of stuff I have seen they have copied right out of the AC1 game. From what I have seen and read about it, it looks to me like what AC2 should have been except in D&D style. I don't really think it will be a bust but its hard to tell right now how it will do, especially with all the competition that will be comming out around that time as well.
With the few big ones coming out, I think the last one to market is going to be the biggest loser.
If there is more than a couple weeks between releases, expect people to jump into the first one available. And, as we all know, after you start an MMORPG and put some time into it, it is hard to pull out if it is the least bit enjoyable.
So, if WOW comes out in June and the expected release of EQ2 isn't until Sep, I expect poeple will play WOW and not want to leave their hard work when EQ2 is released. This is just an example.
Except of course the few who are waiting for a specific game religiously. But this is a small number of people.
I think this is why Lineage 2 is starting their open beta so long before release. They are trying to be the first ones to get players hooked so they do not jump ship when others are released.
I know that TSO dose not appeal to most people here. Hey not even to me. But it is a very popular game. I recently Did the 14 day trial to see how things have changed sence the beta and to my surprise they ahve about 10-15 Servers that are all nearly full at Peak. I did not count the servers but I know its more then Shadowbane, AO, and E&B combined. ITs the Not gamers game and for that i think it has Value here in the world. besides I very much don't htink that TSO had any where near the budget that SWG did. I mean really tso 9.99 a month. SWG 14.99 a month. that tells me that SWG will be hurting for money for some time.
Got Heros? No.. How about Heroes?

Id have to say "and prolly going to get flamed for it" EQ and E&B.
EQ was cool at first, espcailly coming from the crap UO was doing at the time. But after about 2 to 3 months it got stale. Dont get me wrong EQ had very pretty graphics but if theres no content then all your paying for are good CG artists. Static Spawn camps sucked. the constant spam of WTS/WTB/LTB in open chat was a pain. And the zoning was just horrible. but it was pretty
E&B was a change of pace you could go first person *tho limited to a little bitty starport* or you could fly in a ship and actually accomplish something. To get exp for sitting in a group not doing anything was rather crappy. The story was pretty good up to a point, there was no randomness. It was an okay game but not enough to hold you for very long unless your mundane:)
Im going to have to defend SWG simply because there is a HUGE amount of content. ive been playing for 6 months now i believe and still havent accomplish 1/4 the quest that are out there *yes im a casual gamer before you blast me* but there is always something different to do. But i will agree JEDI = PFFFFFFFF , the nerfs = PFFFFFFFF and the whiners are the ruling factoin BLAH!!!!!

AC1 isn't getting the AC2 graphics engine.
