What is silly is that these WoW fanbois dont realise that Warhammer has more computer game titles released than all the games Blizzard has released.
This intrested me.... Blizzard hace realise a total of ten games that I can think of and of course expansions (Some one correct or add to the list if I miss any. not including expantion packs)
01. Rock 'n' Roll Racing
02. Blackthorn
03. The Lost Vikings
04. Warcraft
05. Warcraft II
06. Warcraft III
07. Diablo
08. Diablo II
09. Starcraft
10. World Of Warcraft
and on the side of the warhammer we have....
01. Age of Reckning
02. Dark Omen
03. Mark of Chaos
04. Shadow of the Horned Rat
05. Chaos Gate
06. Dawn Of War
07. Final Liberation
08. Fire Warrior
09. Glory In Death
10. Rites Of War
11. Space Hulk
So indeed the statment is correct, very close mind and I could have missed games out from either but Im almost sure its correct.
If i remember correctley , WAR has been around for 25 years, as a tabletop game. WOW is a mmo, a computer game, a mmorpg, WAR is a tabletop game, two very different things. honestley, i could care less, im looking forward to WAR and hope the pvp is as good as they say it's going to be.
Okay, let's set things straight for a moment. I am sitting here and just laughing at all you WAR fainbois who are so quick to point out that it was WoW that STOLE WAR graphics and that's why WAR looks cartoonish and resembles WoW. Every post I read on this forum has someone stating this like it's some important thing. First, I was just annoyed at it, but now it's actually amusing. If there ever was a better excuse to make the product you are in love with try to look original. It's like two kids in a sandbox having an argument: "I was here first! Waaah!" Let's face it, folks. Even if this is true, and it very well may be, only a select number of you will know that. The truth is that 95% of WAR players will not know this, and for them, this game will just look like a WoW graphics knockoff. Honestly, many people have pointed it out already that from the screenshots, this game looks like WoW. In fact, my first impression on seeing the first screenshot (before knowing WAR was coming out) was: Oh, a new monster in WoW! Then I found out about WAR . So, let's stop this foolishness. Let the game be what it is. It looks like WoW, and deying it while pointing out that someone stole some graphics from someone else is just being childish. WoW came out first, and everyone will equivocate those graphics with WoW. WAR has some work to do if it wants to be original... or it can stay as it is, and if you all just let it be, it may still be a good game with WoW-like graphics. Nothing wrong with that.
As has been pointed out, the Warhammer IP has been around for a very long time. In the first two WarCraft games, the iconic imagry and brutal backstory was a major influence to the WarCraft universe. Personally, I think they should have continued along the same path, because War3 and WoW, and all the retconning they did, really watered down the whole series for me.
Whether or not some fabricated statistic will know, from the beginning, where the look first came from is irrelevant. The look comes from Warhammer. That's all there is to it. I don't care. Most people I know waiting for WAR don't care. Most people I know playing WoW don't care. Most of the people I played War2 with over Kali don't care. To tell you the truth, most of the people crying about the similarities seem to be the WoW fanboys eager to denigrate the game that inspired their current favorite game who never actually picked up a WarCraft title before the WoW hype pulled them in.
It's something I don't really understand. Of course the game looks a bit like WoW. It's because WoW looks like Warhammer.

WoW is a FPS :P the entire WC serie was stragegy. its simple: the larger amount of casuals, like the idea of a first person game over "tactical warfare". the only reason the casual picked WoW over EQ2, forexample, was because world of counter-strike wasnt made yet. and because WoW is the easiest on the market.

The elves(high and wood), dwarfs, and various bits (trolls, ogres, giants, halfling, etc. are pretty much traditiional foklore or tolkien.
The Empire has influences of germanic history. Brettonia is an idealised Medieval setting.
The dark elves, skaven, lizardmen and chaos are almost wholly GW along with the distinct look of the orks.
Warcraft took a lot from GW lore (Im sure blizzard have said something about them being fans of the tabletop games) the one thing they took wholesale was the look of the orks, however they didn't have the 'main' orks act quite as barbaric as GW's.
Blizzard have taken no more from GW then GW took from D+D. And thats again no more than D+D took from tolkien. Obviously GW has had longer to evolve its franchise. They will drift apart more as time goes (GW is fairly strict with altering its IP, Blizzard with the burning crusade have shown a willingness to rip their IP apart and rebuild it) but will still retain their roots in the fantasy genre.

But its fact that that was Warhammer's style before WoW. Even if 95% of the WoW players think WAR is a knockoff, do you think will matter? I don't think Warhammer is trying to be like WoW at all. The only similarity is the style of graphics and honestly don't you think some of the 8 million WoW fanboys would say "Nice, Another game that looks like WoW. I've played WoW for so long and all it is at the end is a loot/faction grind. I'll try that new game!"

True to some extent. Fantasy creatures hail from all sorts of backgrounds, from scandinavian to persian lore and back again. The Empire is a fantasy adaptation of the 15th century or so Holy Roman Empire, whereas Brettonia is the French Chivalry myths inclusive of things like Roland's Chanson de Gest and the anglo-frankish Arthurian myths - in fact, the historical and literary similarities to their adaptations are so close as to be silly to assume they weren't derivations.
There's a world of difference, however, from adapting myth cycles and 'adapting' the look and style of another game or modern piece of fiction entirely. There's a rather naughty word for it. This has all been settled somewhere, though, so it's a moot point beyond an academic discussion.
Its not about who really came first.... WOW is doing so mainly cause of word of mouth, I haven't seen any WOW adds on tv, people let their friends and family try it they like it so they do same and so on.
ie.. if WAR wants to do good it has to have that kinda thing, make people want to recommend and play it with their friends.

I am not going to waste time in a troll war,
1) Warhammer art concept been here longer than WoW and even Blizzard.
2) WAR is all about PvP and RvR. Mythic created DAoC which realyl was one of the first MMOS to incorporate this system usccesfully.
I am looking forwrd to kick some ass in WAR alogn wth my brothers of the The Enclave.
