I played it for months and never hauled *one* batch of ore. I never did *one* traderun. I never did *one* mission more than I wanted. I pvp'ed, because that's what I find the most fun, and Eve has excellent pvp.

Eve's pvp allows you to earn money, which is all you need in order to progress in both skills and (obviously) upgrades.

Yet, people say that eve sucks because "all there is to do is mine", "all you can do in Eve is do traderuns", "I played eve for a week and all I did was fedex missions", "eve has the biggest grind, all I did was kill rats the entire time".

This WoW mentality needs to stop. People need to understand that some of us enjoy setting our own goals and making our own achievements, rather than following a treaded path of missions.
I do understand why you like setting your own goals. I like that too.

I don't like the combat system

    I don't like travelling system

I don't like the general controlling system

    I don't like the graphics

I don't like the extreme elitism of the playerbase(Everybody thinks EvE is so fantastic, and if anyone disagree then they are a WoW player with an iq lower than 50)

I'm not a WoW player. I generally mock WoW players. Mostly because they think WoW takes a lot of skills. I mock any mmo player that thinks their current MMO takes a lot of skills, because there is no MMO in my eyes that takes a lot of skill, which is also why it's non-existant in the E-sport scene, with the exception of GW(Not a mmo i know) which made it to the ESL.

I do enjoys some MMOs, but EvE is not one of them because the exciting moments are few and far inbetween....

Actually non-existant when I think about it, since the combat never didn't do anything for me.

i dont think theres been a mmorpg thats given out more free trials than Eve either.
i'll never understand why this forum in particular is so Eve based.  Is there something in the Eve registration that directs you to here?  or did you get all your early free trials for Eve from mmorpg.com?
meanwhile WoW gets bashed everyday here, at one point the mod was moving all threads for EQ2 and WoW off the Pub and telling people who wanted to discuss them to take it to the mmorpg specific related forums.  this was when they were first released too which was nuts.
and how can a game that dominates the U.S. market and overseas by far never ever get ranked while mmorpg's with 1/100th its playerbase do?  even free ones?
just crazyness.  never seen another site like this one which leads me to believe theres more to this based on advertising or some other sham.

Seems obvious to me that the Eve fanatics actually only somewhat like thier game but do not completely like thier game.  Basically others have already stated, this site attracts people who are looking for a different MMO to play.  This inherently means that Eve fanbois are actually looking for another game while they are playing Eve.  Meanwhile many WoW fanbois are satisfied with WoW and dont feel the need to come to sites looking for a new MMO.

Its the same really for any product., you dont go looking at new washing machines unless you dont like the one you currently have.  So basically it looks to me that this site has less than 1% of WoWs customer base on it.  Therefore 99% of WoW customers are happy?  Yet Eve has 50% of its customers here, which means only 50% of thier customers are really happy?

Its probably like the people who have ugly fat wives.  If they tell themselves enough times that she really isnt that bad, eventually they will convince themselves.  Eve fanbois are trying to convince themselves, until the next pvp based game like Warhammer comes out.  Then you will see those rats jumping ship so fast its not even funny.

    Your post makes no sence.

If you know EVE players, talk to them and ask them if they ar w8ing for other games.

There is no other game on market or in devlopment similar to EVE. this game have no adversaries in his kind.

He says that half of the EVE players are here. And all mmo players that are here are unhappy with their game. Thus half of the EVE players is unhappy with EVE.

    That's his "logic".

    MMORPG.com have 529,224 members

EVE only have 160,000 subscribers so that statment dont make sence.

See mmorpg.com player awards, if you have doubts.

Couldn't possibly be that some of us actually Enjoy discussing MMORPGs, the things we like about the ones we currently play and the things that we don't. And possiblly we like to hear what other MMORPGs are doing that though we may not like the MMO the idea is coming from we may find something that we wouldn't mind seeing in ours.

Yeah now .. I like the production and mining part of EVE.. sure it's slow and all that and when I do get bored of that type of gameplay I go and do some missions or some PvP...

I always give new members in the corp some tip on how to train their characters... to consentrate on combat orientated skills and skills to help tanking better.

That way they can start do missions or even some PvP if they like...

Now I see some complain about the travel system, personally I don't understand why a autopilot is bad because I did try WoW and to run down Darkshore was plain boring, yes running through Barrens even sucked more !!!! you have to constantly change path or your  character risk standing towards a tree running like mad, and even worse you might "try" and run through a camp of beasts !!!

And some say you can never reach veterans and beat them, that is so far from the truth as possible, sure veterans have more skillpoints and skills but it does not make them any more elite.

A friend of mine with 20 million skillpoints less than me still managed to beat me... and I got more skillpoints than him in almost all category... only missiles he had more than me.

Also ... some complain that it takes forever to travel and you spend most of the time travling... that only tells me they never really tried the game or they might have tried as a newbie and fly out to 0.0 something.

I frequently move through like 30 jumps from missionspot to homebase... it does not take me hours to travel...

And last .. the whole tinhatthing ... about eve-players taking over this site... bullshit !!!! the only reason EVE-Online is on top is because if 20 000 people gives EVE 8.4 of 10 and 100 000 gives WoW 8.1 of 10 ... then EVE WILL be on top.

It's not about it's numbers but what people give as vote to the game... and to be honest not even half of eve's population comes to the forums ever... they don't care.

    Good.

I'm not sure if you've noticed this, but 9 out of 10 people in the MMOG genre are idiots.

Congrats! You are one of the 9!
Now let's get back to stereotyping and tell everyone who doesn't enjoy EvE that he is an Idiot.

You have to be very intelligent and uber in order to enjoy EvE, only doctors can afford 2-3 accounts and pay little children to mine.

PS: Before the flaming begins, I know EvE has a lot more to offer than mining and that you don't need 2-3 accounts. It was just a joke.

No, it is not EVE, it's a nice movie made playing EVE.

This site is frequented by people who are in-between MMO's much more often than those who are playing. because WoW as the largest population base, it has the largest amount of rejects, therefore, there voice is loudest on a site consisting (largly) of refugee's or vets. that's all. nothing more to it.

MMORPG is i think noted on EVE's site, because of their several awards they try to flaunt. good for them :)

So your saying mmorpg. com is full of EVE rejects then, damn lucky im not one of them.

I will try to make the math a little clearer, but MadAce seemed to get the idea pretty easily.  Please dont get hung up on the percentages as they are estimates only.

Readers Choice Awards showed on thier news release 60k people voted.  74% of them voted for Eve.  That would mean that 45k votes were cast for Eve.  With WoW getting 15k.

So my theory stating that Most (I wont say all, because there are always exceptions) people who visit this site are looking for a new game.  Therefore if 45k people who visit this site are playing/played Eve, then that would mean most of them are looking for a new game.  I will also make an assumption, that every single person who does/doesnt like the game they are playing does not come to this site, otherwise it would have many more members.  So if 45k people in Eve dont like the game, and the game only has 170kish subs, when you add in the other people who didnt vote that would be close to 50% or more of the Eve population that is waiting for another game.

On the other side, Wow has only 15k people voting for it that are probably currently playing it.  Which would mean at least 15k are looking for a new game.  15k represents less then 1% of 8 million, therefore I just went ahead and rounded up to 1% since thats a statisticly small number for this theory anyways.

So to conclude if 50% of Eve customers are unhappy, then you can probably conclude that 50% are satisfied or happy?

And if only 1% of WoW customers are unhappy then you can also conclude about 99% are happy?

There you go, I hope that clears things up for you.  Keep in mind I am sure this is not scientifically perfect analysis considering that voters/members are not exactly the same as subscribers, considering for voting purposes I am sure some people made dozens of new accounts just to influence a stupid poll.  But its close enough to to make the point I was showing which is 99% of WoW is happy roughly 7.8million people, compared to 50% of Eves population which would be roughly 85k happy.

Or another theory could be that 20k Eve Fanbois voted 10 and 25k ex Eve players voted 7.0 average.

Where are on Wow 200k players voted 9.0 average and 20k Eve Fanbois voted WoW a 0.

A very small group of people voting a game 0 and drastically change the outcome.  I personally think they should take all 0 votes and make them 6.0 votes.  That way the outcomes cannot be influenced so greatly by outside players.  Although this voting method is hopelessly flawed regardless, just do to the fact people can make multiple accounts and vote.

Personally I think the best Voting indicator for a game is actually already measured.  8 million people are voting for WoW everyday, where only 170k are voting for Eve.

Ok , sorry but i just have to comment on this. Because it is clearly false advertisement , and maybe even attempt to lure people into EVE!

    This is a lie.

Surely you can make money out PVP - But EVE skill system makes people that played more time have clear cut advantage.

So given that you are new player. It will take you over A YEAR of playing to be able to participate in PVP in this way.

    True statement would be

"PVP in EVE enables more experienced players to make money by ganking newbies"

"Before this battle is over all the world will know that few...stood against many." - King Leonidas

PvP in Eve is not just asking to duel a player one on one, or being a lone wolf robbing haulers for billions worth of cargo.

Ore theft, anti-piracy, defending haulers, tackling, nosing, buffing/healing, are things you can do efficiently within *days* of playing.

Ladies and gentlemen of the supposed forums, I have one final thing I want you to consider: Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk, but Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now, think about that. That does not make sense! Why would a Wookiee -- an eight foot tall Wookiee -- want to live on Endor with a bunch of two foot tall Ewoks? That does not make sense! But more importantly, you have to ask yourself: what does that have to do with this thread? Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this thread! It does not make sense! Look at me, I'm a fanboi defending a major video game, and I'm talkin' about Chewbacca. Does that make sense? Ladies and gentlemen, I am not making any sense. None of this makes sense. And so you have to remember, when you're deliberating and conjugating the Emancipation Proclamation... does it make sense? No! Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed forum, it does not make sense.

54% of WoW players play as Alliance. EVE has more Alliances then WoW (it just has the one). Therefore, those 54% of WoW players all wish they could play EVE, but unfortunately the 20k EVE players voted for Guild Wars, which has led directly to the downfall of SWG. That 97% decrease in Jedi population has allowed the Sith (see: Knights of the Old Republic 1/2) to take over CoV and drive off everyone with a Midichlorian count over 36%, who have all joined EVE.

Additionally, approximately 8 million people a year vote for dying of cancer, which proves that WoW is as popular as malignant cancer.

I don't think I can possibly be clearer on why you are wrong.

Awsome video. anyway i find this an interesting topic to read as there seems to be a lack of flames for such a post

anywya  brainy that logic is a bit... skewed. your saying that because we are here and we are eve fans that we are acually looking for a new game. sorry I don't buy that thats like saying A Vampire the masquerade fan who goes to a gamming convention is obviously looking for something besides V:TM to play. Remeber this is a site dedicated to MMORPGs not specifically to helping people find new ones to play.

asfar as the thing about us jumping ship when a new PVP game comes out. well I'm sorry that doesnt seem very likely i mean come on eve has been out since 2003 and its player base has been steadly (slowly albeit) growing and still is growing and how many decent PVP games have come out since 2003? theres been a few. most of EVE's players haven't jumped ship for those what makes you think they will for any others?

The whole new players cant PVP effectivley for almost a year and will never be able to stand up against a vet player. Thats completely untrue. I wont get into that topic as its one that i can go on forever about and give an insane ammount of examples

i'm in between mmo's, I played eve for 1.5 years, then wow for almost 1.5 years, now i'm in between.  You won't see me recommending wow but I'll tell you eve is an awesome game.  That said I tried to play eve over the weekend, friday night was some gankage in catch, sunday was a run down through providence with machs and hugins, it can be fun but that stuff bores me and I like the alliance vs. alliance stuff, but I hate pretty much every alliance in the game atm, and I did 1.5 years ago too when I quit.  They're either all too sissy, or treacherous dogs I no longer want to associate with.

Yea well another more obvious reason that so many people voted for eve is that they hate WoW and voted for EvE as the lesser of 2 evils.

For example a guildwars fan having a choice between WoW and EvE will chose which one he hates the least.

I'm an avid EVE player, I also spend a lot of my WORKDAY browsing MMORPG among other sites. I'm not looking for a game to replace EVE in any way. I usually have subs going to 2 different MMO's at a time, EVE for my sci-fi fix and another MMO for my fantasy fix. I'm currently in the market for a new fantasy game as a secondary game, AoC looks to be that game but we'll see what else comes up..
