2.Wii will be getting HD, which is the only damn reason people like 360. - some time this summer
    3. Wii will be getting DVD functions. - some time next fall

    Huh?

The Wii is a great system and I want one badly (can't find one anywhere right now) but your agruments are hideous. The Wii is doing very well for a few reasons and nothign you mentioned will really increase sales dramatically because it is not directly competing with the 360 and PS3 as much as the latter are.

The Wii is cheap. The Wii has lots of VC games which are nintendo owned or exclusives and people are buyingthe Wii just to play those even though there isn't a real kilelr app for the Wii yet. The Wii is a great party system and the sony systems have never been able to compete in this area, M$ hasn't even tried after Fusion Frenzy flopping.

The Wii is the dominant system for multiplayer games (in one room) and arcade sytle games. It can not compete technology wise, but it can in innovatin and just having fun with a few friends. Adding a HDD and DVD functions will just up the price and reduce potential sales as well as upping the cost of games by making it easier to get burnt games.

The 360 is dominating online multi player games and I really don't see the PS3 competing well in this area. Blu-ray access is too slow and even games like Oblivion have had to modify how they are setup to allow a playable data access speed. [Oblivion has numerous copies of common use data all over the disk to reduce seek times, without it the PS3 version was deemed unplayable]. The blu-ray isn't ideal for games at all in its present form. If they make it faster then what will Sony do? recall all the older models or just tell everyone their PS3 v1 is not able to play all the games on the market? Lack of planning is what is hurting the PS3. Unless the PS3 is overhauled in some way to allow it to dominate online gaming or party games I don't see it being the top system ever. Not to say that it will die out, but not be the success it was exclaimed to be before release.

I have a Wii, I got it on launch date, I got a xbox 360, I got it on launch date. I love both of these consoles, they are great. Although I will say this. I got my 360, I play it all the time, more than I ever played any other console. I got my Wii. I played it non-stop. but... I found after a while I found myself playing my 360 more than my Wii and now I havent even really touched my Wii with the exception of showing it off to my friends. Now, i am NOT downing the Wii. The reason I beleive i dont really play it anymore is because I only have 4 games for it, and I beat them all. So, I will not say the Wii is a console you will get tired of after a little, but I will say there is a chance it will, cause its either that or the fact I only have 4 games. Oh, and just to clarify, I HATE THE PLAYSTATION 3!!!! with all my heart... I want to burn one and just watch it burn....
When the Wii gets more than 10 million sold will you still display the figures in your signature? yes i will, i am pro Wii. whyd you ask that?

    Not this GEN m8.

    you reckon?

what makes you say that then?

Maybe you should back up your statement before you ask others to do the same. Just a thought.

see the post before this one by gameloading.........................i rest my case. That is not supporting anything. just cause it did well in the last gen and maybe the 6th gen too (i still liked my n64 best). DOES NOT mean it will do good this gen. $ony messed up this tiem around. They made bad decisions that resulted in this... a failed a losing console.lets wait and see what happens after the european launch shall we...the result is inevitable.

Hey! That was some really good info about Blu-ray. I was already wondering if Blu-ray wont be that bad actually, haha.

Personally I have two reasons why I'm now trying to avoid buying Sony products. Above all it's their ATRAC audio format for mp3-players and that software you are forced to use for Sony mp3-players called "Sonic Stage". That one really cost me a lot of nerves and time. The other thing is the completely unacceptable behaviour of Sony Online Entertainment, I don't think I need to elaborate this any further.

I mean, sure it's in the nature of a company to make money and more money. Actually that's the very essential reason for a company to even exist but Sony is having some politics going on that are almost disgusting. It's totally obvious that they aren't interested anymore in producing quality stuff for the costumers sake. Their Playstation 3 for example wasn't finished for it's original release date and they kept holding it back to work on it further - that's a good thing but now they "had" to finally put it in stores because of the Wii release! It's obvious that something with the Ps3 cannot be right. That's not the way true business is made, Sony will lose even more money and even worse for the company a lot of good reputation as if they would have holded back their Ps3 some longer and finally released it as something "truely next gen". *shrug*

For me the Xbox360 suits best. There are lots of promising games being released for it like Mass Effect, Age of Conan, Virtua Fighter 5, Grand Theft Auto 4, Shadowrun...  I really like that stuff though I never been what you might call a "console gamer". The last console I bought before the Xbox360 was a Sega Gamegear so it's been a while. Besides all these crazy cool game releases the Xbox360s hardware is kickass too and exceptionally good quality, it's not fragile in any way, the wireless controllers are working extremely well. The only thing you could possibly argue against the Xbox360 is that loud noise it creates while running but seriously, Microsoft put that hardcore fan in there to keep the hardware alive for a long, long time and if there would have been any other option for a more quiet fan they defenitely would have chosen that one. I guess the 360 is the best console out there at the moment not because it's ahead of the others in numbers being sold but because it offers truely what you want in a traditional console. The Wii imo like all other Nintendo devices seems more suitable for the younger bunch and not for the older people who like to rather bum around on their couch with a comfy wireless controller in their hands instead of hyperactivly waving about with a "nunchuck".

I had to decide between buying a new gaming PC or a new PC for office apps and a console instead. I picked an Xbox360 and a quality IBM notebook instead the gaming PC because that option was lots cheaper and wiser imho.

yes we all know you are pro wii and xbox. but for crying out loud, the ps3 has not had its european launch yet and it has not been out that long in the states. i reckon you should shut up about ps3 being a lost cause, crap console etc and put a post in about it in about a year from now and look at the sales figures then. i reckon things will look a lot different then. if ps3 does not clear up i will be very surprised.

sony is a well known, established name. this will attract people to the console by itself.

I'm not really a fanboi of any perticular console.  But I like blood and guts in my games. so thats y i prefer maybe the xbox 360 over the others. or the ps3 too.  But i played the wii and it was fun for a while.  But not grown up enough for me. I'd rather play gears of war with my friends.

Does everybody here want to know why he PS3 will not dominate the console war like they did last time? Here we go:

    1. PS3 has a MUCH higher price than what people were expecting. People were already expecting a high price, but when you blow over those expectations it loses its appeal.

    2. Blu-Ray format. Bottom-line is that people don't want to pay so mucyh for an UNTESTED format. Nobody knows who will win the format war, HD-DvD, BluRay, or even RedRay(ECDvD). The last one being a recent competitor. I'd be damn pissed if I threw down $600 for something that isn't even used for movies anymore.

    3. Exclusivities...yes PS3 has Final Fantasy, MGS4, and Gran Turismo, but thats pretty much it for the big games. Third parties have said they don't like exclusive titles, it makes them lose money. I'd expect MGS series to be hitting on the Xbox360 sometime after the MGS4 release.

    4. An alalyst company recently did a poll to find out about console availablitity, they randomly selected 52 electronic/video game stores, the numbers were a bit shocking. 54% of the stores they had called had PS3s in stock, where as 0% of the stores had Wii's in stock.

    5. Word of mouth. This is the most POWERFUL form of press(positive or negative) and its largely negative for the PS3 right now. When people hear that there have been PS3s sitting on the shelves for days, it makes them cautious. "Why is it sitting on the shelf? They had shipment problems and STILL there are some sitting on the shelf? This thing should be sold out until June." All of this makes people worried about investing money into a new system.

    6. The third generation of a System always seems to fall the hardest in terms of success. Call it a curse if you want but historically thats how its gone. Nintendo dominated the gaming market with NES, and then again with SNES, and then fell on its face with the N64. The same can be applied to Atari, and Sega. Thats not to say PS can't break this but it is a bit cryptic.

Bottom line is there are too many factors out there than are against Sony dominating the console war. Can they win? Yes, but they won't dominate like they did with the PS2. The PS2 was a fluke in a console war that was largely a pushover. The Xbox was an untested game machine with few exclusives, and the Gamecube lacked third party support. This is not the case this time around.

    Thank you, and Good night(morning)

    Eternally mine,
    Keebs

As long as Nintendo, Square Enix, Capcom and Sega continue making games I really don't give a damn who wins the 'console wars' each time, but nintendo have my vote they know how to make fun games with consoles that allows you to eat for the next few months once you have it.

Cut the costs down of making games and we ALL win.

    Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!
