Just to be clear on something. Our "MMOWTF" features are an editorial column. This is where a writer of ours expresses his own rants and opinions. These features are not intended to be any kind of official opinion of any kind...and this is clearly stated in the intro to each column. These are nothing more than a "featured forum rant" from Mr Dan Fortier. As the site owner I probably only agree with about 35% of this article and as with all editorial columns, take this one with a grain of salt.
Perhaps you should have some standards what you allow to front page instead some random rants.

It can make a lot people angry to this site, when you release stuff like that on the front page, see the link below and you'll get the hang of it
6 years, and all you have is a new video. Well you guys still have the faith, that much I give you.
Six years…right!
Ignorance it's not a virtue; unfortunately it’s that deceptive drawback which creates the illusion of knowledge.
ok 4-5 years ... thats much different LOL
because i know my registration date on thier official forum was from 2003. and I heard of the game before that.
I rather have a small company that do it for the love to the thing they are making than a mega corporation that just does it for milking out money from their customers.
The combat in the video look like standard mmorpg combat except for the mount combat what is nice to have.
So after watching this video I took a look at the features and there no classes? I hope this game doesnt turn to be one of them min/max skills like Shadowbane where min/maxing can only compete in pvp.
It also funny how they work on ship to ship combat. You would think that a small team would have more of a focus and get things like pvp done right before other featuers are added in.
Also why there is no better alpha vdieo becuase when you can preview/or play the game it goes into beta phase where they start working on adding all the features.

Umm...did you even watch the video? the combat is anything BUT standard, its fully twitch based.
Anyone can release a pretty video and say their working their @ss getting something done.
But in all honesty, its all crap until people have their hands on something. As the previous posters said it IS vaporware until you prove otherwise. ( proof lies in a finished product or beta tests.)
After 3-6 years people do start doubting what you all are doing. and they have every reason too.
It's vaporware through and through until it's playable.
So are you saying that any game that is in pre-beta development is vaporware? thats exactly what hes saying, so lets change the 'Games in Development' to 'Vaporwares'

i'm sorry but the way I see it ;is that Dan Fortier expresses his own bias through mmorpg.com’s credibility. I wouldn't really mind if he was expressing his rant via his own blogger- or in “My space” for example -simply because I would have never read that. I believe that a public site is "obliged" to double check on the sources and the credibility of the articles that editors are publishing , to ensure and to guarantee their stories objectivity. I’m afraid that the disclaimer at the beginning of the column cannot alter the fact that Dan is not objective-if not dangerous- since he hadn’t been bothered to make some research before writing his article.
Even if as an owner you're 65% disagreeing with his article I’m afraid that -without intention-you are offering to your misinformed and "inept" editor 35% of credibility.

Do you ever read newspaper editorials? Do you even have a clue what the concept is?
An editorial is an opinion of the contributor. Nothing more, nothing less. Stop being such a fool.

I consider any program which I cannot run and empirically observe to be vaporware. It is nothing but a set of promises, guidelines, and to-do lists until it has been placed in the program and can be confirmed through direct interaction.
So, yes...any game that I cannot play, whether it is because it is not released, not in public beta, or is a beta/alpha project that I do not have access to, I consider to be vaporware.

I don't see the difference. An opinion is an opinion.

which still doesn't change the fact that despite fancy combat videos (you do know, they can make entire movies digitally now, right?) they can't actually roll out their game and have someone sit down and play it. (like at a convention or something).
I guess its possible that "one" day it will come out...but by then, will anyone really care?
In the end...why do Darkfall admirers really care what one Editorial says about the game. It won't affect whether it comes out or not, and if /when it does come out..people will either buy it or not.....
This thread is just a useless trolling attempt... nothing more.....

anyone has the right to suspect that this game is vaporware. I have been following it for just about 5 years now and to be honest it is starting to look worse not better. The graphics are getting very very out dates. I have my doubt about it now because of how long it has been taken to develop it, usual total lack of communication, and the lack of progress.
Open beta/beta was supposed to be open 2 1/2 years ago when they launched the new website. Any game that misses a milestone by 2 1/2 years makes people wonder if it will ever come out.
Iam the one that told all of you about this game when it was a amination game. Hehe and i been following it for about 7 year i think and keep telling ppl that never even heard of it ! And now you all start to listing, hwhhw when i say a game may be good you better check it out because iam a guy that looks for good progamming good graphic and sound .
I look for everything to wear out just like real life. I look for skill and skill forgetness if you stop doing something for a long time.
Wear what you want to wear skill up on only what you use .
be able to fight some one that hits way harder then you and still you have a chance to beat them.
I look for player made stuff , Not like all the game s out now where you can get everything you want from a npc.
Npc = single player game ! Why because you need a npc in a single player game because, that is the only way to get weapons armore so on , get what i mean there !
Hit and move and jump combat like real ! No one button push and watch.
I look for no radars in the the game because that is just not real at all . Want to find someone hunt them dont look at a map and know where everything is.
I look for long fights that is not over in 1 sec that is just a wasted game.
You see if every thing has a skill lvl then no matter how long yo0u play you may be like a lvl 1 in some things you never done like say swimming.
I you been playing a game for 2 years and you never went swimming but a coupl;e of times then you will not get away from the player that is over all skill lvl 1 butt has a swimming skill like 30 he will get you when he trys to run from you and he gos in water.
And he will be safe in water as long as you never take a lot of time to build that skill!!!
Get what i mean when i say skill is the best way to play a game?
Because no matter how long you been playing if there is alot of skills ,i mean alot, for everything you do. It is not posible to be the best at all of them because you got to focus on a skill to be real good and that takes time!
which still doesn't change the fact that despite fancy combat videos (you do know, they can make entire movies digitally now, right?) they can't actually roll out their game and have someone sit down and play it. (like at a convention or something).

Multiple articles have been done that way. Brilliant misinformed thoughts though.

An editorial is an opinion of the contributor. Nothing more, nothing less. Stop being such a fool.
Yet a newspaper that prints a slanderous editorial can be sued and forced to print a retraction.
And from the negative thoughts around the word vapourware - I would consider that slander if it was said about a game I was developing.
And there is a big difference between someone posting in a forum saying a game is vapourware - and a staff writer saying it in an editorial.
