For some reason i can play even tho i havnt bought the game lol, so i decided as i'm not playing anything else i might aswel : In game i've been insulted like 6 times since i've started this char (today) and it's sooo horrible. Someone insulted my name which is perfectly normal and acceptable his was something like "jkshgr" then people spamming "this game owns" in shout all the time. Alot of people are calling people "noobs" and "go back to wow" just because they asked for help :
How rude and how much of the game is made outta vanbois, it's a really big turn off. People say this game has a mature community, yet i see no evidence of that.

It should be thrown with great force"
I do think it's funny cuz I've heard everytime someone /shouts and asks a question... People automatically say go back to WoW. That's pretty lame lol... Most of VG is former WoW players anyway. Although a good amount of SWG has found refuge there.
I personally just don't let them bug me. If they wish to rant, rave and jump up and down, that's their business. I go about mine, help folks out now and then.
Maturity attracts maturity. True, you get some idiots. Ignore them enough though and eventually they do get bored.
JoeSmith shouts, "Anyone know where to find so and so?"
Helper1 shouts, "Check your locations tab in the log book and see if it's there."
(time passes)
JoeSmith shouts, "Anyone know where to find so and so?"
Helper2 shouts, "He's over by the bank area."
(time passes)
JoeSmith shouts, "Anyone know where to find so and so?"
Helper3 shouts, "Over by the bank man, didn't you see Helper2's response?"
JoeSmith shouts, "I've walked all around this stupid town and I can't find him. This game is so stupid. Everyone here sucks! This thing is buggy as hell. I can't even freakin find the guy I need for my quest."
Helper3 shouts, "Where are you?"
JoeSmith shouts, "In town."
Helper3 shouts, "Where are you in town?"
JoeSmith shouts, "Why does that matter? You can't tell me where this guy is?"
Helper4 shouts, "What guy? Sorry, I just logged in."
JoeSmith shouts, "The guy for this stupid retarded quest."
Helper4 shouts, "gonna have to be a bit more specific than that. "
JoeSmith shouts, "Damnit! Your all a bunch of @#$@%( retards. WoW will totally destroy this game."
And it all goes downhill form there.

Unhappy players create such a community.
Peoples playing Vanguard are not happy.
In CoV, players are happy, the community resulting from happiness is helpful and kind. The community is always equal to it happiness. Devs listening to FoH agenda, and you wonder why the players are unhappy? I invite you to visit FoH forums.

I love Vanguard as a game, but the community is by far the worst I have ever seen, especially because everyone keeps throwing this crap about 'all the WoW kiddies' need to go back to their game. I've played WoW since release as a mature adult and continue to enjoy it with the expansion. Many of my mature friends play WoW as well and it's amazing how you always get the childish name-callers to say you are immature or a wow 'kiddie'.
Vanguard does not consist of all the people banned from WoW. It seems to be a lot more full of all the arrogant elitist fanboys that think WoW is the worst game ever with 8mil preschool/teenage subscribers, and want Vanguard to be their perfect little MMORPG with nobody else in it to ruin/change their experience. With WoW, you are going to get the immature ones AND the mature ones in one game when there are 8 million subscribers. Of course it will have the bad and the good with that many people, unlike most MMORPGs where it's easier to see the good side of the community with a much lower playerbase. The bad apples stand out more because the mature ones ignore the immature and go about enjoying the game with their friends while the immature go around stirring up trouble.
With Vanguard, the community is easily much worse then WoW ever was considering you have a smaller playerbase right now and it seems like every turn you take someone is being rude and obnoxious. I expect to see that in WoW when I'm playing with seemingly 50% or more of the entire online gaming market but when we're talking about a small percentage of people that continue to claim they are the mature ones? It is not about WHO you are playing with but just simply being nicer and more considerate to everyone around you. People that insult or criticize someone's age or preference of games was the seed that created the bad community in Vanguard and it needs to stop if you want a better community. Vanguard would greatly benefit from getting some of the subscriptions from mature players in other MMORPGs including WoW, but with everyone telling new subscribers to go back to their own game, you will only be left with the rude portion of the playerbase you can find in any game that is only there to grief and annoy others.
Just stop throwing around 'kiddies' when associated with gamers because you have no clue, and will never know the age-bracket of the majority of the playerbase. Whenever I find out a person's age in these games, it is usually over the age of 20 and I've found the rudest ones are older still. Kids will be kids, but they are young and have to get it from somewhere. As adults, we should know better and deserve far more criticism of our actions then kids that are still learning how to act.
(seriously, that's a crappy name that can't be prononced, and should be against the rules)
The only issue I have is the lack of different language servers. It really shows in the eu servers.
Right, just rememberd how everyone seems to ignore everyone though. The game needs some speech bubbles or something, since people have a hard time reading the chat box it seems.
(seriously, that's a crappy name that can't be prononced, and should be against the rules) I think it is. I just /petition the names I see that are stupid (I saw Chuk Noriss the other day) and move on with my game.
Yep, I think Knives asked a stupid or a lazy question. There are guards in game to help and actually sitting down and trying to figure out the game instead of going straight to asking a question will solve a lot of problems.
Being that no examples of this issue were posted by him I question the validity of the statement.

Honestly, the community is the one thing about this game that concerns me the most. Overall, its rude and immature. At least on Woefeather, /shout is constantly being spammed by the kiddiies.
Like you would know Anofalye your not even playing the game, and am very happy playing and so are alot of other people and the way you jump into every tread on vanguard and try to turn people off it tells me, that your the one thats unhappy move on to a game you like
The role playing server is awesome great community

I have been playing since pre-release. i have characters on the PvP servers, and the PvE servers.
Created my first toon on a PvP (US) server coz that is what i want to play. Omg gang-ganking galour. You play, get to PvP level, and unless you are in a group you get ganked in town by a mob, while you are crafting, walking, shopping... there are no safe zones. OK i can live with this i thought... Bought some self defense skills and items. So there i am walking along, some guy tries to gank me, so i blind him, run and hide as he is level 13 and i am only level 10...
"OMG you p*ssy n00b, if you dont want to fight go to a PvE server!!" he shouts. "lamers like you ruin the game!"
After nearly a week of this abuse, smurfing, and atotal lake of social behaviour. Also constantly getting ganked when i play solo, exploring questing and learning the curve of the game. So i take all the abuse from all the 'cool-pro PvPers' and change to a PvE (US) server.
Now i am on a PvE (US) Server i think, ok this will do until i learn more of the game. So now i have been playing for a day on PvE and i have been called everything under the sun that our mothers taught us not to say. public shout spam, and abuse to the general audience, it was just somthing i was not willing to pay to play.
Thinking I have paid for a month of play, i am playing it, i change to a PvE (EU) sever. Lets see how the other side of the planet behaves. Servers are busy, people are polite, grouping is automatic when doing a similar same quest. Quest sharing. No spam, shouting, swearing, help is easy to find.
Only thing on a euro server is the ping, and for some stupid reason their servers are always down longer during patches and reboots.
In closing, I as a player of V:SoH think it is a great game, young with heaps of potential. BUT the (US) servers are full of rejects. the kind of rejects banned from othe MMO's coz they are a pest but V:SoH wont ban them as the game is young and they make up a big percentage of revenue. (not all players rejects, just majority of the ones I came across.)
Oh also /petition, generally you will have played a whole day and logged off before you hear back from them.
PS
Your name is stupid, go back to wow(seriously, that's a crappy name that can't be prononced, and should be against the rules)
This is exactly what is ment. Baldhor, it might be stupid, but it isnt your name. who cares? Just get on with your game.

Seriously, the beta server was infested with negativity but thats what you get when fanbois from other games come in to bash VG just for the heck of it. I really don't agree with the threadstarter from what I've seen ingame so far.
Well I will say that the region chat not working does have tons of shouting going on. I saw some of the "Go back to WoW noob" stuff. To be honest the few times I paid attention to it someone would start it with "This game sux" or something similar and this on the RP server. Still I saw many instances on my server of folks helping others. At least tell the next bitchfest would flair up. It carried on for awhile tell I gave the Shout channel the boot. Having said that the last to nights I have played with very good PUG's and enjoyed myself quite a bit.
As to the game itself I'm enjoying it. Still has many others have said it needs work and seems to be getting patchs quiet a bit. So I approach the future with a great deal of hope. To each his/her own of course.
Depends on the question...
If you ask where is this, where is that, yes, you will probably get the wow thingy. It's stupid, i agree. MOST of the time, when people are asking that kind of question, the reply are like: "Check you quest log, it's all in there"... wich is true.
eqnext.wikia.com
I dunno, I've asked some very noobish questions in the shout channel, like, "where did my mount go when I right-clicked on it?" and several folks pointed me to the saddle icon in the character screen. Not a single flame.
I also asked where a certain basket was as part of a diplomacy quest...and while I didn't get a direct answer, several folks gave me a few clues...which helped me find it. (and realize, I really stink at deciphering clues from npc conversations.)
But..no flames, no shouts to go back to WOW. Now, some folk ask their question in a negative way... like... "man, I can't find this npc because this map blows so badly"...and they get shouted down. Also, repeatedly shouting the same thing more than 2 times usually results in scorn.
I did see one guy ask a legitimate, if noobish question and he caught some grief.. I actually pointed this out to the folks in the chat channel that there really was no cause for them to do this to the guy.... and two of them agreed and apologized for coming down on him so hard.
There is intelligence out there in Vanguard, just have to search for it a bit.

Ever since I started playing last week (/hugs pre-order), everyone has been friendly. And the shout spam has been civil. I do consider turning off shout, however, since reading ooc spam detracts from the immersion. I'm a Vulane (wolf-person) and play on HIlsbury. Maybe the OP got some bad luck being in the wrong time and place. It happens and sometimes it seems like everyone are jerks. Try another locale.

Why can't we all just get along?
These are, after all, computer games we are dealing with here. We aren't on the floor of senate arguing about anything with real meaning. And yet I have seen rude people in every MMO Ive ever played. (which is why I keep most public chans turned off.) I also can be rude. I personally have no desire to deal with beggers (Can I have 2 gold?) or people who are just being morons by shouting rediculous things in /shout or /ooc or /say
That being said there are people out there who will be rude at the drop of a hat. These forums are a perfect example of that as are any popular MMO.
Anyway, On behalf of the "mature" Vanguard players I would like to give everyone who has been wronged by a rude player or a Vanboy on a forum or in game my appologies. Please do not let the actions of these people reflect on us all. There is a very mature and good natured comunity in VG. we just aren;t as vocal as the rude part.
Hope to see you in game!
Your argument make sense, taken out of context.
- I play beta.
- I know the players in Vanguard; a LOT more than they care to say. After all, we play together for YEARS in EQ! If I trash LoS, FoH or AL, I know who I am trashing, it is not random hatred.
- I have no idea about the RP server, granted, but I can tell you about the regular PvE servers, which is catering to peoples who crave and insist on raid-enforcement. These players would play, with or without raid-enforcement, especially if it doesn't affect ther servers. Yet, they defend it, for the wrong epeen reasons. Nobody cares about their epeen except themselves.
I have "too much" free time (when opposed to the past times available), I enjoy CoV a lot, but, I get bored, and when I am bored, I do something else, in order to be receptive and nice when I play...unless I want to solo (which seldom happen); in which case I reply something like: sorry I can't commit to a group (which is the same when I have to afk a lot, so nobody can tell the difference, and it is good that way). Yet, I am looking around, and hoping for a great game that would be fun, and Vanguard could have been; regardless of the jerks defending raid-enforcement or not. But, it would have require a total freedom from raiding...and the game ain't offering that.
I see that Vanguard is ruined by a few big mistakes and 1 critical, and I still feel I have to insist more about that critical mistake, which is raid-enforcement. *shrug*, until I find something better to do, I will advices and warn players; since I know, myself, I would have been a LOT better if I would have read such comments BEFORE playing EQ, I would have play EQ only 1 month or 2 and then quit when I would have see that come to the harsh must-raid ending; which would have been better. So these warnings, they are necessary. Like them, dislike them, I intend on giving them anyway. I have nothing against Vanguard, I have everything against raiding, and as long as it is enforced, I will bash it, rightfully might I add.

I could be mistaken but wasnt Beta in VG capped at lvl 35 or 40? and that there was little to no raid content in Beta?
And on top of that the devs have said that raiding isnt their main focus on this game it is single group oriented. while there is raiding in the game. and why shouldn;t there be? I'm not a big raider but every now and then I like doing them so why shouldn't I have that option? the gbest gear in the game won't be gotten by raiding. it will be gotten by participating in all aspects of the game. So with that being said it would be safe to say that only 20% of the best gear will be gotten from raiding as only 20% of the game is raid oriented.
this is just an educated guess. guess when I get to higher lvls I'll know for sure.
