I hope Vanguard has the /ignore command. I find that's the best way to silence annoying 1337speakers, fanbois and other irritating players. You should see my WoW ignore list!
Mature? In Vanguard? Only the kiddies in Vanguard will ever say the Vanguard community is mature. It is, without a doubt, the worst, childish, most offensive and abusive community in MMO History so far, and the only explanation I can find, is that it consist of all the people that was banned from WoW. Seriously. Its just one long, neverending wave of stupidity. Game is not bad.. It has flaws but its not bad. But the complete twats that play it are making sure most will never touch that junk with a ten foot pole. Its like paying 15 bucks a month to watch a neverending Jessica Simpson video.. Just stupidity in motion.
Can't say I see that at all, in-game or on 90% of the affiliate sites (this isn't one of them). Quite honestly, this website is the cesspool, not Vanguard.
To the OP, there's a bunch of good people in this game. My suggestion is to not use this website as your main fansite - the population is low here, it's not an affiliated site, and refer to the cesspool comment above....

I've been playing on the gelania eu server. I havn't seen one instance of someone saying 'go back to wow'. I havn't even see someone saying something rude.

Bingo! Give it a couple weeks to a month - then you'll see who the real community is. If it's still not to your liking, probably time to start looking for another game.
I'm betting though that the buddy key accounts are behind most of the rude behavior. Being a group-oriented game, players will need other players to ultimately progress very far. Rude players eventually get left behind, as nobody groups with them.
Eventually the rude player gives up and moves onto another new game. It's just the way MMO's community's progress. Anybody else remember the flood of newbie duel challenges when EQ was first released? You couldn't hardly walk 5 steps without another challenge for a duel popping up on your screen. Eventually though, either those players quit, or they figured out they weren't going to get anywhere with that kind of behavior, and the requests dropped to acceptable levels.
Vanguard is going through the same stages now. Lots of new players, lots of gamers on buddy keys, lots of players still just trying out characters to find out which one they like, etc.
I've seen the "Go back to WoW" stuff on Woefeather and Hillsbury, but not a whole lot. If there's anything I've learned in life, it's that there will always be @$$holes wherever you go. Of course, I *am in the military.

My sentiments exactly. It MUST be stressed how bad the community is, because if it's not, this potentially great game will be a flop. Right now though, I partially blame Sigil for not monitoring problems like these a little more closely. Are the GMs asleep at the wheel? This is part of their job description, to monitor the servers, right? I'd give them a pass because of all the bug-squashing, etc., but their beta forums were also horrendous in terms of monitoring...so I look at it as a 50/50 problem (1/2 GMs, 1/2 rotten-to-the-core players).
The only game I have played that has a ruder community is DOTA Allstars -W3 mod. Its what happens when you get kids playing games.
Well personally, I never thought in a million years that anything would be worse than a WoW PvP server, but VG community takes the cake. 1/2 the reason we left was due to the poor community there...so I'm beginning to wonder than anything not D&D based will be any better. At least D&D weeds out a lot of kids...well at least 2nd Edition did, because their little brains weren't able to grasp THAC0 and what-not hehe.
I really agree with the WoW stuff, people seem to be obsessed with it, and then you get the other people who just want to cash in on bashing the person who might have played WoW just to look cool. I have seen a lotttt of online gaming stereotypes being used in VG so far, like go back to Counterstrike and hax or go play WoW on and on, funny thing is that they don't realize that there in their own stereotype "The big hardcore original EQ gamers that are know it alls and Elite". Love the game tho. just need less talk about other games.

At the end of the day you will get people who want to ruin the experience for you in all walks of life whether it be in your everyday life or on an online MMO this is one of the unfortunate things that we all have to deal with but rest assured that there are a LOT of decent people playing this game who are willing to help others without any rudeness or anything.
Well my negative experience was in the betas, so I honestly don't know what the community is like now. But part of the reason people play games, is to escape reality, albeit for a limited period of time. When one is constantly being bombarded with comments that ooze negativity, it ruins the experience. It's probably only a vocal minority that is useless and annoying, but part of the majority's (and GM's) job is to shoot them down. If it doesn't happen, I wash my hands of the situation.
I bet you anything the ones that are being the rudest and most immature are the ones that are just excited kids thinking they're cool. They're excited about a new game and eager to establish notoreity, whether good or bad. I haven't even played the game yet (hopefully I can snag a buddy key somehow), but I'm sure that's how it is.
As far as VG vs. WoW? Well, from the 10 whole minutes I've spent perusing these forums, I can already tell that the VG community is far more mature than the WoW community. I agree. A previous poster talks about the good people in the community, when then they better step up quickly to prove they are instead of just talking about it. Odds are they won't.
If you are having fun, you might try holding on with the game for a little while. IF not, you can always leave.
The initial community invited into the earliest stages of beta are the ones who determine how the communinty interacts with each other in game among other things. IMO.

I agree this community is the absolute pits, they consistently launch personal attacks against everyone. Right now I would not play the game for free. They always talk trash about the WoW community but these guys make the stereotypical WoW kiddie look like a mature college professor in comparison.
