Seems to be a lot of VSoH haters around here. Honestly I don't understand what the deal is. Are the WoW Fanbois just upset that there is new dog on the block that might in a year or two dethrone Blizzard's pet project? I have been playing Vanguard for about 3 hours a night since the early entry was allowed for PreOrders. Other than the occasional hiccup this launch has been one of the best that I can ever remember.
Sure there are some bugs. My gosh I would hazard to say that there isn't an MMO even years after release that still doesn't have a fair share of bugs. Sure there are balance issues, even WoW still has balance issues. Could the game have used more time in beta testing and such? Maybe, but what game couldn't use more time in testing before release?
What I think is that those people that love a free ride are just upset because beta is over and they can no longer play for free. Other than that I really don't see a reason behind this hounding of the game.
Does it feel like EQ3? Sure to me it does have that feel. But so what the hell? EQ and EQ2 are both create games. I don't see a problem with it having a EQ feel to it.
System wise I have very midline equipment iMac Intel Duo Core 1.8Ghz, 2GB Ram, x1600 video card and the game runs almost as smooth as WoW as certainly just as smooth as EQ2 (don't get me wrong I loved EQ2 but it was a resource hog). I haven't had any problems getting into the server(s) of my choice. No huge queues, very small amounts of lag.
And to those that said the cities don't feel alive, I am laughing inside. They feel every bit as alive as Stormwind or Qeynos. Kids run in some of the villages, citizens move about.
Weather effects are great in the game and certainly are load balanced well. None of the weather lag that I was used to in WoW.
Quest are fairly numerous and spawn rates are high (though sometimes this is a bad thing as you can get adds a bit too easy).
So once again what is with all the hating. I love how everyone just loves to jump on the I hate SOE or I hate Turbine bandwagons. Gets so old.

While his message my not have been well articulated he is completely right. I've played wow for a while and yes the community is on the whole terrible (which does not mean everyone). Notice that at 3pm alliance pvp gets terrible and chat gets spammed? The kids are out from school and i'm dead serious about that.

To the OP....you know what's getting old? These pointless posts from VG fans getting their panties in a bunch because others don't like the game. So what! I happen to like VG, sure it needs some work, but all MMO's need work. Can't please everybody all the time. Stop crying and being so damn sensitive. Now stfu and go play the game
i gave WoW a chance like i do all MMO's. i played up to level 16. thought the game was HORRIBLE. was made a year and a half ago and it looks like EQ1 which was made.. 8 years ago? somthing like that. WHICH IS REDICULESS. absolutly insane. a game that came out last year should not look that cartoony, that pixolated, that low of detail. it just shocked me. and the fact is, the gameplay just isnt all that great heh. community sucked and so on and so forth.

My first impressions of this game are very poor. If I were designing an mmorpg, I would do my best to hook and impress my customers from the very beginning. This would start with a polished and well designed character creation tool.
Dozens of sliders for everything from nose length to cheek heigth, "Arm length ratio" etc. It sounds like a great character customization tool on paper. The truth is, your choices will do little to make your character look different from any other player. Even the Gnome npc's all look the same. I typically play a bald gnome, being bald in not an option.
Once in game, I found my characters movement to be clunky and uninspired. Hardly a step up from what I have experienced in other games. I can handle bugs and the typical issues that plague a game at launch, but the whole look of the game had me completely disenchanted.
I have a p4 3 gigahertz, 1 gig of ram and a 7800GS w/ 256 mbs of memory. Not a cutting edge machine but with settings all set to "highest performance" I was constantly freezing up whilst the game accessed my hard drive (most likely loading an area I was headed too). Anticipating this game I have been shopping for a new computer, and have been considering something w/ 4 gigs of ram and perhaps 1 or 2 8800 gts. But after buying and installing the game all I want to do is go back and play Everquest 2 (a game I hated 2 years ago) and can play just fine now. My one real big gripe about eq2 currently is the zoning... but at least in EQ2 I know when I'm going to zone and it won't happen when I'm being pounded on by angry mobs.
Who knows, maybe in 2 years I'll fall for Vangaurd (like I did eq2).
I'll let you guys work out the kinks.
Eh ... how do you think that would ever happen, realistically? I mean, the game is a slow release at best because it was released too early. Sigil people themselves are saying that. They also said that if the game every reaches 250k subs they will be happy. Even if that were to happen (which seems very unlikely to me in terms of standalone subs outside of Station Pass), would that be "dethroning WoW" when WoW has 10x that number of subs in North America alone?
I know that it is de rigeur to HATE WOW WITH A VENGEANCE if you play V:SOH, but to be honest I don't think Blizzard cares one bit about Vanguard. It certainly is no great threat to WoW, and is much less of a threat than EQ2 is (and WoW trounced EQ2 as well).
I'm trying out V:SOH but this constant, anger-filled, anti-WoW animus is getting very old. It's all over the various Vanguard boards, it's in chat in the game, it's just ... very petty and immature and old. It's fine to dislike WoW. To have one's dislike of WoW to be the primary motivation to play Vanguard -- which seems to be the case among a certain portion of the playerbase -- is sad and sick, and quite annoying to any mainstream gamers who are trying out the game.

I do beleive you are the one whos first mmo was likely WOW and since you got to lev 60 you think your Hcore and have the right to insult people.

Well if you aren't the pot calling the kettle black i dont know what is lolHow do you measure this game is a flop? 50k, 100k, 500k, 1million, 8 million subscribers?
Or is it by years 1, 2, 5, 7, 9?
If the game lasts 7 years of expansions (as they planned) then thats my measure.

Ya, I have been playing WoW for the past two years. Every once in a while, went back to try my other MMORPG games : EQ, EQ2, DAoC, AO, CoH/CoV. And tried V:SoH Beta 4 times! Last time was about a month before release and I could see that this was going to be another EQ2 style SoE disaster.
So, ya, I am still playing WoW. I just come here to warn the folks that like the fun times that WoW provides that V:SoH will give them *nothing* in return for their money and time except for pain and suffering.
So, if you hate fun, if you love forced grouping, if you love losing experience when you die, if you love massive agro and trains, if you love tedious crafting, and all the other old EQ1 standards, by all means, play V:SoH.
For a fun time though, try elsewhere. No fun to be had here.
