Hi Jeff Thanks for answering these questions. i have just one for ya. we have all heard who didnt have anything to do with the NGE. but want i would like to know is who was the orginal person who pitched the idea? who was the guy that said we are going to do this. that is the persons name i want to know. if you cant tell me that then maybe you can say was it someone at SOE or LA. thanks for your time. Jack Burton. Nashville, TN.
I can't say anything that isn't already public info.
The thing you have to understand though, is that "the NGE" is a whole bunch of changes.
Originally we called it the NPE, for New Player Experience. It was going to be the experience which new players had. Whomever pitched the idea originally didn't have anything in mind but a new player running the game for the first time, and being thrilled and amazed by a much better initial experience than any SWG player had ever had during character creation before.
Even tho i disliked the CU that game was still similar to Precu gameplay..if this NPE was the only thing put in the game i doubt seriously youd have the discontent towards you and other DEVs past and present..Im no Developer or game expert i just play games. But i know what makes sense and what dont/the NPE wouldve made sense to me..But the CU and NGE didnt nore how the whole lets make it and screw the vets attitude some Devs have..
Its not that i hate SOE nore the ones who choose to blindly pay 15 bucks for pure garbage..What i want you to realize what you guys thought was keeping your game down wasnt the main issue at all..It was the total lack of vision and the constant changing and breaking things. We liked the combat system very much thank you. Some may have not thought it was engaging or fast paced enough. Those that never took part in a 50v 50 pvp battles with players enjoying that so called broke engine..The CORE game wasnt the problem why cant you understand that!!
The main issues are still in the game to this very day Bugs bugs and more bugs..No one wanted the UI changed-The combat engine-The loss of 32 professions-it to be a loot kiddie game-The complexity removed..WHat we did ask for was a few caps on things more armor types added to the game and the same freaking bugs from beta adressed..Then when that was fixed content added every now and then.Believe it or not when SOE removed the profession system and dumbed the game down it took alot of the Game away.. when SOE says we want to fix something in my mind it says Nerf or make it worse..Telling Devs what was broke got old cause it fell on deaf ears just like it does still to this day...I wonder how fixes translated into 3(pub 9 cu NGE) massive changes to SWG..Thats what makes no sense to me at all.
I dont care who made what when or what part they played in that mess..All i want is the game i paid for back to were i can log in again and play..2 years of just spending time in a game is a record for me ive never played a game for that long before. That says alot it kept me paying and playing reguardless of the bugs and lack of polish it was still a ton of fun.It just makes no sense to me not to build upon a base of paying customers instead of telling them to like it or leave..I guess we all know how that bussiness model turned out huh? What a mess this game has become and its sad no one @ SOE will give us what we ask for..The classic server or 2 and to be left alone to enjoy our so called broke and bad combat click fest..
What is funny is how Chris "I had a" Cao is publicly running away from the NGE by pointing out that the people responsible for it have basically been purged while still claiming it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Come on.. man up.It was the team they paraded out on the forums after the NGE launch. Wouldnt call it their 'fault' though, they were just doing their jobs. However, that isnt an excuse imo. They were supposed to be part of the playerbase too. But i guess its not worth losing a job over right?

I've been posting messages here for several days now... that question has been asked and...
Well it has been asked, anyway.
It is the fault of everyone involved. The only people who DO NOT deserve blame are the customers.
What is worse is you guys have failed to "make good" by giving us the one thing you COULD give us that we really want:
OUR GAME BACK.
Which we are getting anyway... I've played it. It's working well. Will it take a long time to really finish? Yes. But I guarantee you the NGE game is shut down before it ever gets to be 1/10th the fun that even a partially working Pre-CU is.
The NGE is going nowhere, very slowly.
Dundee, I have a question for you. How do you and your compatriots (Pall, Helios, Smed, Torres, McDaniel, McIntyre) look at yourselves in the mirror without feeling guilt?
You didn't just take away a game, you took away a pastime. You took it and turned it into a poorly designed and broken game. It's as if you decided one day to make the bases in baseball only 20 feet apart and moved the pitcher's mound because "the game is too slow and it's not interesting enough".
If SWG didn't mean something to a LOT of people, you wouldn't be getting 1/1000th the heat you are, even more than a year later.

It is definitely unfair to say every bit of every change in the NGE was the fault of every developer on the project at the time.
Different people had their own personal opinions about every aspect of the NGE, in as much as any one dev knew every detail of every change, or even just every change.. You're talking about some people who only made quests for the new tutorial space station. Some people argued against many of the NGE changes as you'd have wanted them to (and think no one did). Others expressed opinions against many changes you'd hate, but not all of them. Others argued for things you'd have liked along with things that you wouldn't. Such is the nature of teams.
At least one was transferred off the project at his request, because he didn't want to do to you what the NGE was about to do (He wasn't the only one, either; but there wasn't a place for everyone to be moved and they couldn't very well move everyone off the project anyway).
If the universe is so completely insane that I ever faced this choice again, I would quit rather than being a part of it. But that's only because I have this experience behind me.
Even so, right. I think expecting all devs to quit is too much, especially ones lacking the experience to recognize an Elephant Walk shaping-up. I wouldn't think any less of a dev choosing to feed his kid over going all Norma Rae for you.

Unlike some i could careless who is quote "At fault" i just want to know who is gonna take the stand to fix it back or offer a classic server...Whats done is done..But it can be undone and fixed to a time when the game had a stable paying population..But things like that make way to much sense.SOE would rather say it was a mistake and do nothing to fix that mistake and just say PR lines weve all heard time and time again..Fix it to me means going back to when the game was great and i had a full guild and server..
It is the fault of everyone involved. The only people who DO NOT deserve blame are the customers.
I agree.
What is worse is you guys have failed to "make good" by giving us the one thing you COULD give us that we really want: OUR GAME BACK.
I'm not a "you guys" there anymore, but it seems to me that's the one thing they cannot do.
Just holding the lawyers off the emu project seems about the best they can do for you there.
Dundee, I have a question for you. How do you and your compatriots (Pall, Helios, Smed, Torres, McDaniel, McIntyre) look at yourselves in the mirror without feeling guilt?
I can't speak for the others. I do feel guilty from time to time, actually. Not for everything (maybe not anything) that you think I should... but I understand: You want a person to really hate, not just a company, and you weren't there, so you don't know.
Your list there... really weird, by the way.

You're over-personalizing.not really when you love something that has been taken away no matter how hard you tried to prevent it is very personal..Game or no game people invested lots of time and money in this and feel cheated..
If SWG didn't mean something to a LOT of people, you wouldn't be getting 1/1000th the heat you are, even more than a year later.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. i wouldve liked to enjoy it longer but you guys kept changing the darn thing everytime it started to get stable..Revamps werent really needed cause what you guys tought was the cause of subs bleeding wasnt the core game.It was the lack of you guys fixing bugs broken professions and changing things the Mainstream vet enjoyed or liked about the game..See all you had to do was fix a bug(some from beta still exsist example NPC's shooting through walls) Instead SOE took it upon itself to fix phantom issues with revamps. There is the reasons subs bled but it wasnt the reasons you keep posting..SWG wasnt perfect and the combat wasnt the problem..It was lack of anyone having a clue how to fix things without Changing the whole darn game..my opinion tho
I'm not a "you guys" there anymore, but it seems to me that's the one thing they cannot do.

SOE generally challenges emu projects' (use of the IP, I think), more aggressively than, say, EA/OSI ever did for UO. But in this case, Smed's just wished you luck.
Did you know I ran a couple UO emu's before joining SOE?
You're over-personalizing.not really when you love something that has been taken away no matter how hard you tried to prevent it is very personal..Game or no game people invested lots of time and money in this and feel cheated..
Alright, but if it doesn't matter who gets blamed for what, would you mind directing the angst at... uhm... How about Vladimir Putin?

I'm glad you enjoyed it. i wouldve liked to enjoy it longer but you guys kept changing the darn thing everytime it started to get stable..
Vladimir Putin kept changing it, you mean.
I've pre-agreed with a lot of what you wrote following that, incidentally.
Freeman, you are starting to make me wonder about your sanity. Vladimir Putin has even less to do with SWG than George Lucas does.
But I've named all that DID make the NGE decision.
All we want is our game back. No more, no less. Give us our game back and SOE turns some of their most vocal critics into supporters. Myself among them.
And I think that until that happens, all the people I named need to be tracked, and their games blacklisted.
Yes, the Cabal maintains a blacklist. Heliass becoming the lead designer of the DC Comics MMO, for example. Should ANYONE even consider playing that game when he would probably post something to the forum as dumb as:
"What, you just sat there and kissed Lois Lane, and it was fun?!!!"

Dude.
You really, really, REALLY need to get some help.
And asking Freeman to give your game back is pointless.
My 10yr old son can/could program a combat system better than any of the current dev team can. The Non-Gaming Experience and the Combat Downgrade were such a flop that I bet if you reactivated all old inactive accounts, sent out emails to say your accounts were activated and you checked the database on how many would log in, I'd say 1 in 500 owuld oblige. Classic servers is the only way to get the subs back. Learn form the mistakes ( Y O U R S) and fix the game. Noob dev' team ftl.
seems to me that they could care less what the subs want, as long as they get their 15 a month. Well I'll be glad when the Emu comes out, so as to get rid of SOE azzhats
Freeman, you are starting to make me wonder about your sanity. Vladimir Putin has even less to do with SWG than George Lucas does.
But if you don't care that the people you blame actually have anything to do with what you are blaming them for....
But I've named all that DID make the NGE decision.
You named two CEO's, three producers, two lead designers and a systems designer. At other times you've basically said everyfreakin'body.
It's seriously warped.
All we want is our game back. No more, no less. Give us our game back and SOE turns some of their most vocal critics into supporters. Myself among them.
'Can't help you, since I don't work there any more. Maybe you could make an emu.

I like a good debate and never had angst towards anyone..Just lots of unanswered questions to the SOE side of why things happend the way they did..I dont agree with it never did but that doesnt mean i have Angst towards you personally. And i dont Blame anyone but myself for giving SOE all the cash i did for as long as i did..My mistake not anyone else.Plus i base my opinions on what my experiences were and are..and as ive said before i enjoy a good debate and reading both sides of things..Nothing more nothing less..It allows me to understand the WHY so im more informed than the average person..That and since SWG dismise im bored as heck..And forums are more entertainment than any of the crap WoW wanna be's games that are out now..
I'm glad you enjoyed it. i wouldve liked to enjoy it longer but you guys kept changing the darn thing everytime it started to get stable..
Vladimir Putin kept changing it, you mean. You guys i ment the whole Dev team no matter what their part in all the changes were.I was just stating how i felt about the changes that have been made over the course of the game..Since your the only one that actually will post about said changes i wanted to see your side of the issue, again without angst towards you or saying YOUR FAULT!!.I actually enjoyed JTL it reminded me of x-wing vs tie-fighter and it was a really polished expansion. If that kinda polish went into the rest of galaxies we wouldnt even be debating its current state.
I've pre-agreed with a lot of what you wrote following that, incidentally.
I know you did wasnt saying you werent.I suppose unlike most im not very skilled in typing..I do however work with customers daily im a service tech by trade..So i understand the BS and the constant bitching more than you know..
My responses in glorious red again..
But it will be hard for me to play another SOE game based on its past history and DC online wont be one of them..i sure dont want to invest in a game that will change cause being Clark Kent wasnt iconic and Supermany enough. And yes i know your not at SOE anymore just letting you know how much effect the changes your old team effected me and my future purchases. As smedley once put it i was the vocal minority...kinda doesnt appear that way looking at how the game has to merge servers to keep the current NGErs playing..And all the PR you and the Devs have to go through just to save face.
It was a mistake Ok i forgive you..Now theres no angst so we can continue to discuss issues without hurting E-feelings..
I think they challenged early and let that dog lay..An no i didnt know you did UO EMU's..you did that i presume cause you also didnt agree with the changes made to that game? or am i wrong in that assumption?
I played UO for years, so can't really complain about that. I just wanted to make my own game, different game systems altogether. I didn't start with "standard" UO game-systems and then modify them, in most cases. I implemented my own game system designs.
Primarily because I was a disgruntled EQ player, actually.

I agree.
I'm not a "you guys" there anymore, but it seems to me that's the one thing they cannot do.
Just holding the lawyers off the emu project seems about the best they can do for you there.
I can't speak for the others. I do feel guilty from time to time, actually. Not for everything (maybe not anything) that you think I should... but I understand: You want a person to really hate, not just a company, and you weren't there, so you don't know.Your list there... really weird, by the way.
You're over-personalizing.
I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Jeff Freeman
I agree.
as do i..I'm not a "you guys" there anymore, but it seems to me that's the one thing they cannot do.
Just holding the lawyers off the emu project seems about the best they can do for you there.
Um holding them off? Time will tell i suppose either way it states how strong the community feels about the old game.care to explain this comment? I can't speak for the others. I do feel guilty from time to time, actually. Not for everything (maybe not anything) that you think I should... but I understand: You want a person to really hate, not just a company, and you weren't there, so you don't know.Your list there... really weird, by the way. Clueless on this one
You're over-personalizing.not really when you love something that has been taken away no matter how hard you tried to prevent it is very personal..Game or no game people invested lots of time and money in this and feel cheated..
Im in Red
Did you know I ran a couple UO emu's before joining SOE?
Alright, but if it doesn't matter who gets blamed for what, would you mind directing the angst at... uhm... How about Vladimir Putin?
Vladimir Putin kept changing it, you mean.
I've pre-agreed with a lot of what you wrote following that, incidentally.
Jeff Freeman
Shayde - SWG (dead)
Proud member of the Cabal.
It sounds great, so great in fact, I pitty those who canceled - Some deluded SWG fanboi who pities me.
I don't like it when you say things. - A Vanguard fan who does too.

Dude.
You really, really, REALLY need to get some help.
And asking Freeman to give your game back is pointless.
HE DOESN'T WORK FOR SOE ANYMORE.
Then how else does Dundee explain the NGE failure? It had to be a grand conspiracy since it was such a great idea.
When the emulator is out, I will never set foot on a NGE server again. Which means no more $65 to SOE.
You named two CEO's, three producers, two lead designers and a systems designer. At other times you've basically said everyfreakin'body.
It's seriously warped.
'Can't help you, since I don't work there any more. Maybe you could make an emu.
Blaming Helios for the NGE is outrageous.
Jeff Freeman
Primarily because I was a disgruntled EQ player, actually.
