That's the problem, though. They only visit fansites, and not the tech forums that SOE is hosting for their game.
Have you even taken a look at those forums? People don't appreciate having to go to a fansite or to someone's guild forums to get an answer from a dev for a technical issue for a game they're paying to play.
Maybe if Sigil had an ounce of pride in their own product, they'd pay just as much attention to the official tech forums they have as well as to the fanboy forums elsewhere.
There was no way Glip would be able to lock all of the "FIX THIS CRAP" threads that would be spammed on their forums. This game will be great in a year or two. It saddens me that Sigil had to pull a Turbine and release a game that is so obviously still in an early beta stage. Is it playable? Yes. Is it polished? Far from it. Is it bugged? So many bugs not even Orkin would accept a job this big. Chunk dropping. Texture rendering. Broken quests. Client crashes. And that is just a start. Considering I have a top of the line 1950 GTX video card with an AMD Athlon X2 64 4,800 with 2 gigs of ram, you'd think I'd be ok. Ya, I'd make sure I shut down official forums too and let SoE handle it. They are good at ignoring forums and CS issues.
lol your calling the 1950 gtx the top of the line? LOL idiot the 8800 GTX is the top of the line :P
LOL, the 8800s were the first of the DX 10 cards. The 1950s were the top of the DX 9 cards.

You've just nicely proven the fundamental problem with Sigil's strategy. With multiple non-official community sites it is nigh on impossible for players/paying customers to see dev responses to problems that peers may post without trawling several forums. With a single centralised forum this just is not a problem as you can typically see dev posts in a couple of mouse clicks. A ludicrous decision on Sigil's part resulting in highly dubious customer service.

People that don't like it after their first month, quit. They usually don't storm forums asking for this and that... SWG got destroyed because of official board. Yeah, but to be able to post on official forums you would actually have to be a subscriber so I don't think you would see this insane amount of 'trolling hate' there.
I miss the good ol' days when nerds were actually intelligent.

http://vgplayers.station.sony.com/links.vm lists 7 affiliated sites. But "affiliated" I assume that Sigil means that they monitor and post on these sites. There is no-where obvious on the main page I can see that explains differently.
And yes 7 sites is hard work. Come to that 2 sites is hard work. You might have oddles of time to spend trawling sites to find news of a game, but not all of us are as lucky and would prefer to spend that time actually playing the game.

here`s you one click site with all the infos from all the boards:
They will participate on fansites. If the end user don't want to go on fansite... well that's [h]is problem.
...
So you and Sigil expect users to trawl 7+ fansites for news and or info from devs?
I look 2 of those. You can follow 1 or 7. That is your option. Most of em share the same info. They work together to make sure the news is out.
But if you don't play... you don't have to worry about that.
Do they? Where is that guaranteed, or is it just up to the kind-natures of the site admins?
Also, you seemed to think it was 2 sites a minute ago. and so even you don't know how many sites the devs may post on - again proving the point being made. Thanks.
You're right - if I don't play I don't have to worry about it. I'm not sure what that has to do with the debate though. I know they are more... always had. Just posted the 2 dev trackers i check frequently. Sorry... i should have made myself more clear.
Dev don't have to post on the technical forum because well... it's technical.
That's an unbelievable cop-out. Seriously.
Who else would know the ins and outs of the game code better than the people who are actually working on the game? Sigil seriously needs to have at least one person, well-versed in the game client and their code, posting on those technical forums so that their paying customers can actually get some customer service.
Expecting people to follow multiple RSS feeds and track 20 different fansites and guild forums in order to get any dev answers is stupid. They should have enough sense as a game company to have at least one tech guy posting on that SOE forum, if for no other reason than to give people the satisfaction of being heard by Sigil directly.
I always felt that the reason they don't have an official board is because it's cheaper to let the community take care of it for them. Soon a dominate board will push aside all others and it will support itself with banner ads etc.
I wouldn't be surprised if this doesn't happen more often in the future.
And it does split up the bitching about the game but I am of the opinion that money is the first priority here for these guys (which of course leads to them wanting to decentralize the bitching) so a win win for them either way.

Now... as for the technical forum. Devs work on the game design. Coders code what Devs designed. TSR works on the technical support board because it is their job. If they need information, they will go see the people they need to see.
Just one-- why do people insist on trying to defend Sigil's idiotic decision to not have official forums? It makes no sense at all.
Not everyone is inclined to deal with fansite (and by extension, fanboy) politics in order to get answers from the devs. Those people, if they are subscribers to Vanguard, are also paying customers and deserve just as much legitimate attention from Sigil (i.e., not just from some CSR drone, but from a real dev) as the Vanboys who have been blowing sunshine and roses up Brad McQuaid's arse for the last six years.
There is absolutely no reason for Sigil not to cater to gamers at large instead of just the rabid fanboys, since the fanboys are already converts to the game. You have to try and reach the unconverted, and convince them that you actually have an interest in what they have to say. Hence, the need for official forums.
Plus, it's basic business sense. You don't send someone to 20 different fansites to handle support for your product. You do it yourself, like most normal, responsible companies.

I don't know... because to me, having to browse a couple website is NOT THE END OF THE WORLD. Official forums are good, don't get me wrong... but take a look at WoW, etc... all you see is whining.
Now, here's a question for you (let's say you want to rant on VG and that you own the game):
What's the diff between ranting on a affiliate site and an official site?

Now, here's a question for you (let's say you want to rant on VG and that you own the game):
What's the diff between ranting on a affiliate site and an official site?
1. Browsing several websites isn't the end of the world (I often use Allakhazam for WoW and some CoH fansites for quest info) once you've established your game. However, when you're just launching, and are on the begging end, like Vanguard is, and you're trying to bring people into your game, you damn well had better offer some sort of ability for your customers to come to you DIRECTLY for feedback, gameplay issues, technical issues and bugs, and the like.
Affiliated fansites? Not direct. At all. Those are fansites, not anything official, so there's no real accountability on Sigil's part. If they had to actually be involved at the SOE site, and directly interact with people, they'd have to be held accountable to their subscribers for the quality of their game, as they should be.
2. At an official site, those rants and issues are placed there on the company's dime, meaning that it is people who are actively playing and paying for the game that are posting. You know-- the customers. And those customers have the right to hold the game company's feet to the fire to get things fixed.
A bunch of fansites? Pfft. That's just a way for Sigil to wuss out and duck their responsibility to the people who are actually paying for their product. It's lame.

1. Then the great in game community (yup, it is) can help you out. I'll help you out if you play on Varking (team pvp ftw11!!""). For me, the period VG is at the moment, is the best one. Figuring out stuff by yourself. For bugs, their moto ATM is the /bug command (ok, maybe not the best.... but it's there). As for affiliate site, i think you have to be very professional (or good ass kisser... see, i went ahead of you on this... ) to get in the program.
2. Yeah, the vocal minority. I agree, they like to have an official place to post. But they can also hijack Post on affiliate if they want to. Nothing can stop them.
But i have a feeling that the non official board "issue" is more important to the non VG players.... Maybe it's just me.

Judging by the posts that are currently on the SOE technical forum for Vanguard (i..e, the closest to an official forum there is), I'd say you're wrong. It's clearly an issue for those that are subscribing to the game, want to keep playing the game, and want real answers for their issues.
People are presenting issues and not getting any response, and it's reflecting badly on Sigil. Bad word of mouth can kill a game, especially if the mantra becomes that they don't care about anyone who plays Vanguard except for the professional ass kissers. They're walking a VERY dangerous line by not making any sort of effort to reach out to the people on that forum, and in confining all their attention to the fanboys instead.

My favorite was a SOE rep on the boards saying a poster was making up his technical problem by calling *shenanigans* and that his problem is just not possible and its an issue with his computer

Yeah, I saw that. The reactions to his post were amazing.
Here's the relevant thread, if anyone hasn't seen it. Keep in mind, that's an "official" response:
It's things like that which reflect poorly on Sigil. If they were actually involved at that site, and interacting with their customers the way they're supposed to, then maybe something more professional than "I call shenanigans!" would have been posted.

Well to be fair to Sigil there, SOE runs the servers and technical support of the game i believe, so really, its business as usual for them. So cant blame sigil on that point considering its an SOE board.

Nah. I'm not willing to give Sigil a pass on that. All that does is cast all the blame in Sony's direction, giving Sigil an easy scapegoat.
It's simple-- Sigil developed the game. They know the code better than anyone else, and what they did to it. They should be right there in lockstep with that tech support forum, since they'd be the ones with the most in-depth knowledge of the game client.
They should be providing real, legitimate customer service on that site, along with SOE. Not doing that, and expecting SOE to pick up the slack in one direction (tech support), while having fansites pick up the slack in the other direction (gameplay, etc.) absolves Sigil entirely from any accountability. That's wrong.

I couldint stop laughing
Here's the relevant thread, if anyone hasn't seen it. Keep in mind, that's an "official" response:

It's things like that which reflect poorly on Sigil. If they were actually involved at that site, and interacting with their customers the way they're supposed to, then maybe something more professional than "I call shenanigans!" would have been posted.

Well to be fair to Sigil there, SOE runs the servers and technical support of the game i believe, so really, its business as usual for them. So cant blame sigil on that point considering its an SOE board.
