Just want to point one thing out. The designers have stated a couple times now that this game was designed for the directx 10 version. Now most of us aren't exactly gleaming with computer savy and willing to buy a Operating System off on release so not alot of us have Vista. But I say give it at least 5 months when everyone starts buying a vista and then this game should be running more smoothly.
Now the actual code bugs are tricky. But then again what game has been released without bugs? If there ever was a game it didn't last. As there are always bugs in a game. Theres always gonna be something wrong. Alls I'm saying is try looking at the glass thats half full, not half empty.
Hmm thats a lil different than what they have printed on the box so I can't really buy into to that Idea that it was created for directx 10.

The whole DX10 thing just does not make sense. I thought that Vanguard used the Unreal 2.5 engine. The Unreal 2.5 engine uses DirectX9 - ergo the game was not designed for DirectX10 (at release anyway - who's to say what expansions may bring). Or has Sigil updated the engine to DX10, in which case why use 2.5, or a 3rd party engine at all?
VG's base is the unreal engine 2,5 + heavily patched with parts of the unreal engine 3 + many in house improvements + speedtree.
One of the VG devs has been working at Epic in the past, he is still good friends with them, so they have access to the latest unreal engine 3 tweaks and special improvements for VG.
Well to be fair to Sigil there, SOE runs the servers and technical support of the game i believe, so really, its business as usual for them. So cant blame sigil on that point considering its an SOE board.
Nah. I'm not willing to give Sigil a pass on that. All that does is cast all the blame in Sony's direction, giving Sigil an easy scapegoat.
It's simple-- Sigil developed the game. They know the code better than anyone else, and what they did to it. They should be right there in lockstep with that tech support forum, since they'd be the ones with the most in-depth knowledge of the game client.
They should be providing real, legitimate customer service on that site, along with SOE. Not doing that, and expecting SOE to pick up the slack in one direction (tech support), while having fansites pick up the slack in the other direction (gameplay, etc.) absolves Sigil entirely from any accountability. That's wrong.
Technical support forums are for technical problems with servers, login, billing and such. Those are NOT run by Sigil. Sigil did NOT setup the SOE billing system or design the launch pad with SOE uses. Nor does Sigil run the servers.
I also agree with their decision to have no official forums since those always turn into cesspools of constant whines and complaints with little or no content to actually help people play the game. I think one of the best jobs any game has done was the DAoC model with no official forums but people dedicated to keep customers informed on their website. And EQ had a great system of community websites that still service the MMO community today.
This isn't to say I am giving them a pass either. I can't stand that they released the game with no better performance than it has. Even though they have made vast improvements I still don't think it was ready for release. And DAoC managed to have seamless zone lines over half a decade ago (although not the entire game) so I don't see why Vanguard couldn't match that. Other than that I think the game is in decent shape, but they really need to fix the performance issues asap.

This game was NOT designed with DX10 in mind. DX10 was not even announced until VG was 90% "done" (if you can call the present state done..).
And that is no excuse anyway. Especially since there are no games at all that currently use dx10.
My favorite was a SOE rep on the boards saying a poster was making up his technical problem by calling *shenanigans* and that his problem is just not possible and its an issue with his computer
I couldint stop laughing
Yeah, I saw that. The reactions to his post were amazing.
Here's the relevant thread, if anyone hasn't seen it. Keep in mind, that's an "official" response:
It's things like that which reflect poorly on Sigil. If they were actually involved at that site, and interacting with their customers the way they're supposed to, then maybe something more professional than "I call shenanigans!" would have been posted.
Well to be fair to Sigil there, SOE runs the servers and technical support of the game i believe, so really, its business as usual for them. So cant blame sigil on that point considering its an SOE board.
I distinctly remember sigil spokespeople vehemently denying that soe would have ANYTHING at all to do with this game ... OTHER than publish it. now... servers technical support the sony station pass .....
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Technical support forums are for any technical problem in the game. Crashing to the desktop, memory leaks, graphical glitches, and performance issues all fall under that category along with anything related to billing, and logins. To even suggest otherwise is naive. And since Sigil created the code that runs the game on those SOE servers, they're even more responsible to their customers about answering technical support questions than they currently are.
They can't just pass this off to SOE and not expect to be held accountable. If they expect people to pay money to buy and play their game, they owe some service in return, and posting on fansites doesn't count.
Also, in my experience in MMO's, the official forums will always be perceived as nothing but a cesspool of whines, but you know what? Most people expect to have an official site to register their feedback, both positive and negative, regardless of what that product is. It's absolutely ludicrous for a video game company to not have official forums at all, especially in this day and age. And it's something that will hurt them in the long run, because they will rightly be seen as a company that only wants to look at their game through the rose colored glasses of the fanboys.
They don't deserve a pass at all, either for releasing the game in the shape it's in, or for not providing even a basic amount of customer service. It's ridiculous to me that anyone would even accept that at all, since if it were anything else, they'd probably be pissed about a company that tried to get away with that.
For example, imagine Toyota telling its customers to go to a bunch of Camry owner clubs and websites to find out why their brand new, just-off-the-showroom car is running poorly, then justifying their indifference with the excuse that bringing the car in to the dealership to have it looked at would dilute the community of people who like the Toyota Camry. They'd go out of business if they tried that. Any other business would, yet Sigil is being given a pass for trying the same thing with a game they developed and which they are selling to people. It's absurd.
Well to be fair to Sigil there, SOE runs the servers and technical support of the game i believe, so really, its business as usual for them. So cant blame sigil on that point considering its an SOE board.

I am not going to finish my post by saying "give it time" because there hasn't been one mmo that had a perfect launch, so people should know better then to point out obvious flaws over and over again at the launch of a new title.
Even with all the problems this game has I am enjoying my time, which says to me that when all the problems are ironed out, I will have an even better time then what I am having right now.

This is driving, no this is ASKING for goldfarmers ingame: Problem housemade. You dont believe ? See the first sites offering Vanguard gold after not even 14 days. This is causing inflating the economy, prices raise up, player get pissed, guilds are camping uberloot, greedy companys doing "areacontrolling", customers cancelling accounts etc etc. This is nothing new, witnessed it with so many games - Vanguard makes no difference.
When you buy a homecinema, you spend a lot of money. If you have problems, you call the support responsible for your stuff.
