Yep, I'm in the same boat as you.  Bought the game and 3 month sub and will wait it out.  As of right now the game is almost painful to endure with the bugs and bad performance.  So they have three months of my time to do damage control.  We'll see...

I give new games a single month.

If it doesn't work out, I don't continue playing.

Rarely, a friend or co-worker will convince me to give a game another go, but it generally turns out the same.

What I've found is when an MMO starts out being non-fun, it doesn't get better. I think their egos get in the way and keep them from fixing obvious issues. The suits don't like having to spend developer money to fix stuff either.

Just want to say,  I had been reading the forums before I bought the game.  I had played maybe 1 week of beta before it was released.  I waited about a week after the game was released and decided to purchase it. this purchase consisted of me NOT spending the extra $3.00 in the morning for a week on a soda and a snack and lightening up a little on my lunch ($5.00-$6.00 instead of $8.00 - $10.00 a day).    This all broke my heart

So I had the money to buy the game.  I now am sacrificing my $.50 a day to play a game that I find fun, even if it does have issues.  I did some of the tweaks on my system that you can find here in some posts.  I needed to do the tweaks because I am running an older system. AMD 64 / 3000+  with 1GB ram,  Nvidia Gforce 6600.  My setting is on High Quality and I run pretty good, I do get some lag when I am running around and things are happening around me but I could most likely adjust some settings to improve, just havent yet.

My point is,  Im Not Quiting!   I'm not a fanboy because I can give you positive remarks about almost every mmorpg out there ( since I have played them)  I can also bash all of them too.   The thing is,  I have this much money on other games and all they are doing is sitting in a box in a closet or on a shelf.  Did I waste my money?  no,  I enjoyed them. Am I wasting my money now?  No, I enjoy playing vanguard, even if its only been a week.   Yeah, they could have waited a little longer to release VG, but then so could every game.  I have noticed small performance changes even since I started.  With my system I can see an average of 30 to 40fps anywhere I go,  When it drops below that then I will look again at improving my system " either by tweaks or possibly some minor hardware improvements.  I have done this throughout the span of mmorpg's, even FPS's require some possible changes.  I know some people are not happy with this but this is not a console game.  There is usually some input required for maximum performance on a PC.

Im Having Fun,  I'm NOT Quiting!!!

I beta-tested Vanguard and saw the writing on the wall.  I did not buy the game.

In about ONE YEAR the game will be out of it's pay-to-play-beta-retail-release.

LOTRO was more playable in its Alpha phase then Vanguard is NOW.

You can keep your Vanguard.  I have alpha- and beta-tested LOTRO since August ... six months.

LOTRO will be READY to launch on April 24, it'll be smooth and it'll be content-rich -- and a LOT more fun!

Preorder LOTRO and you can start playing Open Beta on March 30 -- and roll-over your OB account into Retail Release (character level-cap will be in place).  Gives you about a three-week jumpstart on retail release.

Yes, you are completely right, and only prove my point: IF VG is rubbish, it is so ONLY because of Sigil, meaning SOE had absolutely nothing to do with the fact, that VG was way overdue and Sigil ran out of money.

SOE isn't responsable for the design flaws, and unefficient code.

Furthermore: the unreal engine is definetly not the cause of the bad performance, actually, the Unreal engine is one of, if not the, most efficient engines out there, with very good net code.

Totally agree with you there. Sigil has taken on a Project that is alot to swallow for a 'startup' company.  Vanguard has Epic proportions and it was pretty clear at Beta 3 that they will take alot more time to finish it than planned.

On the Unreal Engine, while you are correct that it is a very efficient engine, it is only under certain conditions. Vanguard exceeds all of those conditions. The net code that comes with the engine is not ready for an MMORPG aswell. It's a good basis but thats about it.

It is very easy to create a game with the Unreal Engine, the problem is that it needs alot of optimization to make it run smooth. Vanguard can not (or only at a very limited amount) optimize the game based on efficient portal rendering because the whole world is open to explore, houses have 'see-through' windows and that alone causes major problems. Ever wondered why you can only see into some houses in Unreal and the rest are just textures?

Anyway, i won't go into the technical details. I agree with you, just wanted to point out that you compare a FPS Style game with a free roaming MMORPG that has 100 times the size of Unreal.

Yes, you are right about the Unreal engine. But : an unreal license is a license, so you can use the latest engine long as you have a license. So they could have went with the newest one. Also, Unreal engine is flexible, and very easy to mod, meaning they should have rebalanced number of models/skins, so that less models would be needed, thus saving a lot of memory. And the hickups are really memory leaks. This could all have been done with the Unreal engine.

I remember watching a developer movie about F.E.A.R., and (I liked Monolyth before) they earned some respect. They made a game with stunning visuals, but whilst designign they always kept in mind the performance issues. They calculated objects, lights .. the whole works. It is not that much of a math question as it is a question of determination. Simply put the VG designers were not professional enough to balance quality with performance.. and trust me, it can be done.

It would have been a lot better if they reduced polygon count and went with a particular style of art, like AoC is doing, would have achieved a lot more immersion.

So for the weak points of VG blame only Sigil, for it's good points cheer only Sigil, the truth is that simple.

More importantly, why do you feel the need to bash someone for giving an honest and non-flaming opinion about an unfinished product that you willingly  to PAY FOR? Stop paying for unfinished, half-assed garbage. You are part of the problem, not the OP here.

Remy! How's it going? What game you playing now? Anyways good to see you around after so long.

As for Vanguard, I understand that it is unfinished, but it really is an amazing feat. I do hope you have tried it before bashing it, if indeed you were talking about it here. It's really epic in scale which is why I think it is in the state it is. The devs were a bit too ambitious, and it shows in the complexity and depth of the game. Just needs some kinks to be worked out.

There's a lot of stupid people out there. One guy on this forum was throwing a temper tantrum because it had been THREE WHOLE DAYS since the last patch!  It was as though he believed fixing game issues was simply as easy as having a list of bugs compiled.

The problem is they should have been working harder during the time they had and should not have launch when they knew it wasn't ready.

They are working hard now which is great, I guess, but I can't help but think its a little late.

A lot of people are saying that its going to take a long time to fix this game, 6 months to a year possibly.

how long do you think they will keep sinking dollars into developing a game thats not making money?

If they had done their jobs to begin with we would all be playing the game right now.

Kind of funny that we haven't heard from Brad lately

    Amen

I forgot LOTRO has lifted the NDA.

NOW that is a game worth spending your time and money on.

Very fun and runs really smooth.

Actually, most mmogs dont 'work right' at launch. I have a machine that is in the recomended ranga and that is running just fine.

I think alot of the people who are against this game voice there opinion for 2 reasons.

    1. It's not WoW(probably the only MMO they can compare it to)

    2. They have an outdated computer and/or do not know anything about Video settings and/or ini file tweaks

I personally am still skeptical about VG but am willing to stick with it in hopes that they can impress me with constant updates and dedication to improving the gaming experience.

WoW is deff superior in the animations department and overall fun factor(because its casual and you can lvl fast)

If you cant handle a true MMO format then continue playing WoW, GW, or COH/COV.I agree it seems like you get little for the time investment..but MMO's are supposed to take time..that way you can actually be superior to other players instead of som1 who just bought the game a week ago catching up to you. Whats the fun in that?
