WoW is deff superior in the animations department and overall fun factor(because its casual and you can lvl fast)

If you cant handle a true MMO format then continue playing WoW, GW, or COH/COV.I agree it seems like you get little for the time investment..but MMO's are supposed to take time..that way you can actually be superior to other players instead of som1 who just bought the game a week ago catching up to you. Whats the fun in that?
Learn how to come up with other ideas other than "Go Play WoW!!!"...it's getting really old and I am about to start a sweatshirt company that says "Go Play WoW" because i'd become a millionare in seconds...

i agree with pretty much everything the OP said.

i beta'd for half a year, and yet i still bought the game(i buy every mmo though). honestly knew it would be a waste of money for awhile, and i may go back down the road but im just not having fun playing this game. its too buggy, thats a fact. its performance is sub-par on a good system, not to mention trying to group with people with lesser systems. i encourage everyone that thinks its fun to keep funding them so they can right the ship, but i just don't think its a fun game at the moment and i find myself having more fun playing albatross 18 than vanguard.

and on a side note, anyone who says the 'if you want your hand held its not for you' excuse is insane. the game does the same thing other newer games do but worse! pushes you through the world on quests, though some lines are incomplete so you get stuck and have to search. thats the 'challenging gameplay' that you are so proud of? half the quests even mark the spot on your map you have to go. serious hand holding. what is hard about it? please someone explain that to me. because you get an xp debt if you summon corpse? now im a fan of xp loss on death(except whent he numerous bugs are the cause of it, which they usualy are) but its hardly the definition of challenging.

Yep, I'm in the same boat as you.  Bought the game and 3 month sub and will wait it out.  As of right now the game is almost painful to endure with the bugs and bad performance.  So they have three months of my time to do damage control.  We'll see...

You know i have played alot of MMO's in my time. Lots of fantasy themed MMo's, Space, FPS and more and it all comes down to the same thing really.

To me they all look the same in one form or another, all start out needing a bunch of patches, all start out needing a balance look overs, all start out needing some loot drop fixes, all start out needed a quest fix. MMo's are always changing, always massive undertakings that require lots and lots of work.

Everytime i pass by a forum i am always hearing the same thing....

This other game's launch was better (lies),

they should have waited a little longer to fix this or that  (how long is long enough for you buddy? a few more months? years? How long do we wait till your satisfied? )

game breaking content (well there are some problems in every game but i would never say game breaking unless you played Dark and Light. Now that is game breaking.)

SOE did it, (nope Lucas Arts did it. Now get over it.)

Im a long time beta player..(Ok, so what? does that make you a level 54 master expert of everything?)

You paying to play beta, (Get over it, there are going to be patches, Eq2 still has patchs, Wow still has bugs..exploiters..and patches...SO WHAT?)

Laggy server..(Yes this one gets on my nervers, though ive experienced this alot because of my connection and sometimes cause the server is heavy. I understand the problem...I try to solve it...I move on.)

Dumb Customer Service...(Ok there could be a problem there but they are only allowed to do so much...Understand that and MOVE on. It happens on Wow too, Eq2 as well. Yes, even SWG..CS wont give me my item..wont do this or that...but at least they can get you out of a wall. :) )

Vanguard has no official forums..(sure and its so wonderful hanging out in SWG or Wow forums...or even here when the whine level is at an all time high. I say great. Silky Venom has a wonder forum where vanguard devs respond.)

Things dont work well..(huh? what? can you give more detail? Ah...nevermind...dont.)

Computer cant run it...(when i got EQ1 I was all out of sorts cause my 386 just wouldnt push that game...What was i gonna do...I bought another computer :) ...Did i blame it on EQ1...nope...understood the problem and moved on. Yes, moved on.)

working as intended...(hummm..In vangaud most of the quests worked...drank a poison to impress the guards as a dark elf...collected a head of a criminal...stuck a dwarf in a bag...talked to some stuck up elves about sending some troops outside the city. Did a little crafting ... Yes, one of the chunks keep crashing/I bugged it...and the Devs said they are aware of it...I listen and I move on. On a whole the game has been great...Quests are well written.)

Hats dont work? Warriors too overpowered? ... (Come on now...Get over it....in EQ2 there was a hat that didnt work for years :) ... SWG little hats for big heads...did this make me stop playing and throw my keyboard to the floor? Nope...got another hat and moved on...People have this thing for warriors in Wow...Why i ask? ... I shouldnt do that...I just move on.)

Fix this class..Fix disciple..Fix that class...(Ok Ranger never worked in SWG ... My armor looks gay in EQ2 ... Druids are overpowered in Wow...maybe... They better get it done before i leave all these games and never touch my computer again.)

I expect the patches to work ... (Ok all of you are high grade super programmers who know how to single handedly code patches and make sure they are 100% operational. You know that its soooo easy to do and can patch the entire massive game in about 15 mins tops. sure I believe you. Its massive code folks...the developers often say that it takes time to track down things and often takes thousands of players to look through the game world to find out where the code when wrong. Come on, get real.)

Im leaving ... (sure we heard it all...for one reason or another...we are leaving because of this or that...AO, UO, Planetside, EQ1 and 2, COH/COV, Wow.... heard it all. I have my own reasons for leaving this or that game ... dang Wow never did dark elves right ... but do I bother other people with it? .... Nah....tell my friends...and I move on. Some games i just dont like...not for me...didnt impress me one way or another...I move on.)

Will i ever forgive SWG? .... (Nope...dont think so...I keep looking in because I have station pass but I will never forgive. Great game once though ... with the bugs, lag, balance issues, quest borks, exploits, CS, insert problem here ...)

Is vanguard good? (In my honest ... non-whinning opinion ... yes ... Does it have problems? Sure. )

So if you played one game with bugs you must accept Vanguard. Amazing.
  • VrazuleVrazule Member Posts: 1,095

Its people's addiction to these games that allow them to tolerate shoddy workmanship that they would not normally accept from any other kind of products they purchase.

With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal

Really can't believe you're defending bad MMO launches, especially VG. VG reached an all time low in MMO buggy launches because guess what, people like you it seems are willing to forgive them so easily. They knew some people would play anyway and they take advantage of that. They should be setting themselves higher standards. And quests well written? VG has the most uninspiring & cheesy quests ever I was really disappointed in this. I thought they'd move on and try something different from the aging kill x number of things, deliver so and so items to this person. You can say "but every MMORPG has this" but It's getting damn boring and for a "third generation MMORPG"...well you naturally expect something a little more original and possibly revolutionary.

I am honest and saying that I have played alot of games with bugs ... including single player games that needed to be patched ... Vanguard is no differnt ... Im just being honest .. people saying that they have played MMo's with no bugs are telling a fib.

I have been around long enough to understand how to deal with what I can ... and move on when I cant deal with them. I  have seen bugs ... I was around during the birth of MMO's .... so ive seen them ... understand it .... I have the patience to wait for patches or if it cannot work ... .Move on...quietly.

I was stating I see this very thing with EVERY GAME that hits the shelves.

Really can't believe you're defending bad MMO launches, especially VG.

So your saying when Wow came out there were no patchs? No problems? No server lines to get in? No log in problems? So your saying there was no downtime? No quests that were broken? so your saying that the grass was actually greener on the other side?

name one MMO that didnt start out with a bump...NAME one please.

All i was saying was that EVERY GAME I HAVE EVER SEEN starts out with this type of useless flamming and whinning on the boards...just like this game.

VG reached an all time low in MMO buggy launches because guess what, people like you it seems are willing to forgive them so easily.

I never forgave SWG. :) But I know one thing EVERY game has its version of kill x or run x here quests but vanguard has some interesting starting quests that i have never seen in any other MMO that i have played. The Devs really did try to make the quests something more then the average. I have done alot of quests in the game and i have seen some interesting ones. Though i must admit MMo's can only do so much with the quest format. Wouldnt you agree?

There was one quest where i had to get infected by a spider and let it put eggs in my stomach...to hatch later. There was another quest where i had to gather items for a potion only to have the NPC demand i drink the poison so that i will impress him. I did and it took most of my health.

I can accept you opinion and cannot argue what you experienced in game. I dont really know what you did or how long you played. So dont know.

You can say "but every MMORPG has this" but It's getting damn boring and for a "third generation MMORPG"

They often said that 'Third generation" meant the time in which it was released. Not that it was super 3d or something.

...well you naturally expect something a little more original and possibly revolutionary.

I'm guessing that either you just discovered these MMO thingies some time last week, or you're high as a kite.

    Shadowbane
    Anarchy Online
    Horizons
    Dark and Light
    WWII Online

    Those were bad launches.

VG's launch was no worse than DAoC, SWG, or any of the other big name launches.

You say the quests are the same Kill X of Y. Ok. So what exactly is a revolutionary quest? What's an original quest?

Ah, i forgot about WWII online ... and Horizons ....

Sure. )

You can say "but every MMORPG has this" but It's getting damn boring and for a "third generation MMORPG"

They often said that 'Third generation" meant the time in which it was released. Not that it was super 3d or something.

...well you naturally expect something a little more original and possibly revolutionary.

Yep every MMO has had a buggy launch, you're right about that never said no other game didn't.  You can't deny VG had the worst launch of them all though, it really did. An all new low, like I said.  It like there's seeing how unfinished they can get a game out and still rake in cash. It's plain unacceptable. When you buy a product you expect it to be in working order. I know MMOs can ever be 100% bug free on release and they're alway adding and tweaking stuff obviously but you expect all the MAJOR bugs to be stamped out. It's incredibly unprofessional that VG is like this at the moment and like I said they should be setting themselves higher standards.

I guess we have different stands of originality on the questing thing, all preference. Might be some variations of the quests, but they're not that exciting to me. I want some a little dynamic...just I dunno, something different from the usual questing mold. I want to feel like I'm actually effecting the game world in some way, how small it might be.  Of course this just my opinion. I want to be exciting by an MMORPG again, I'm not feeling it with this game there's nothing truly new about it besides the diplomacy thing; interesting concept but pretty boring to me.  I want to feel differently about VG, maybe in the future it will blow WoW out of the water who knows, but it left a pretty poor first impression on me. I'll wait a few months to give it another chance.

And by "third generation mmorpg" is supposed to mean it's really improved upon previous MMORPGs. Supposed to.

Actually in my opinion...and it is just my opinion...ive seen worse. Actually i had no problem logging in or playing on the first day. So it beat out SWG...took 2 days to log on...WOW.....server lines...lost all my items on second day cause of some roll back ....AO...well no talking there. Did you play Dark and Light?????

An all new low, like I said.  It like there's seeing how unfinished they can get a game out and still rake in cash. It's plain unacceptable. When you buy a product you expect it to be in working order. It's incredibly unprofessional that VG is like this at the moment and like I said they should be setting themselves higher standards.

Was there a bug that prevented me from playing Vanguard? nope. My friend didnt have a compatable video card and Vista was messing things up as usual but nothing stopped me from playing. I HATED the fact they only had 4 hair choices of launch so you got me there ... and I am bugging them about adding fellowships in as they promised ... but overall they have been honest in communicating. Most major bugs are stamped out and the game of balance/loot passes/and server stabilization begins...

by the way have you played dark and light?

I guess we have different stands of originality on the questing thing, all preference. Might be some variations of the quests, but they're not that exciting to me. I want some a little dynamic...just I dunno, something different from the usual questing mold. I'll wait a few months to give it another chance.

I understand....Eq2 has special world effect quests maybe once a year but i have yet to see any MMO do it effectivly. The entire idea about questing or the questing system needs to be revamped in these games for sure. The diplomacy thing kinda does it for vanguard but there is nothing world changing.

Overall...i must admit im a visual guy...and i love the visuals of the game as well as the exploration...I missed the idea of the unknown .... i have not felt that since the free ranging world of SWG pre-NGE. I love the idea you have no limits and can go anywhere...get a house...roam around in a boat...as long as they keep the freedom...im in.

I dont like zones ... i dont like wired mounts or not being able to go on that hill or getting hit by an inviso wall. The expandability of this game is great. I probably will not have to wait 2 years for an expansion as sony does em every 6 months.

And by "third generation mmorpg" is supposed to mean it's really improved upon previous MMORPGs. Supposed to.

None of this suprises me.  I took part in 2 betas, Vanguad and LOTRO.  They were night and day.    LOTRO played so much smoother and seemed more finished.  Now I know they are different games, but I wanted a good product, so I passed on Vanguard and  i'm  waiting on LOTRO.

A few of my friends couldnt believe I passed on Vanguard but i had a bad feeling.

    (1) The BETA was too unfinished,  I knew for sure that I'd be paying and playing BETA even after they released it, maybe for a few monts till they patch etc.

    (2)  Microsoft pulled out of Vanguard and backed  Age of Conan.  Another hint of what was to come.

Now my friends have stopped playing after a few days and are not certain if they want to stick it out.  I know releases can be tough on MMORPGS and alot needs to be fixed.  But this game felt extra rushed to me.

My advice is to wait a month or 2 till they get things straight, hopefully people don't move on to better things.  But with all the competion out there in MMORPGS and the greater number released.........you better damn well make sure your garme is at 80% before release....and Vanguard was not.

Support which ever game you like, i'm not bashing Vanguard and promoting LOTRO.  They are 2 different MMORPGS, built and play differently.  But when I want to spend what little time I have to play a game and pay monthly,......I want it to be a good product.  I would much prefer a game like Vanguard with its PVP servers over LOTRO, but its gotta be done right and gotta be done well.   Simple as that.

Yea, if all the players forgive the company and put up with their bad work, then the company is gonna ride that wave until it's dead. Because they see that they can get away with halfass stuff and focus more on profits, especially in the launch period because they are testing the waters, if people put up with all this crap in VG from the beginning you can expect a pretty crappy ride for years...that's why i'm trying to put my foot down now. I haven't played in about 3 days now, my hook is pretty much gone, it just isn't any fun to go and deal with bugs, and make my computer work at maximum for ultimately nothing.

And exactly how many people stayed with those games, let alone actually defending them for the plethora of technical and content issues they had?  I've played a lot of MMO's and the ones that were buggy were left behind till they got their crap together and some I never returned to, Anarchy Online and Horizons and some never deserved my business, Dark and Light and WWII Online.  These companies are here to do business, they aren't doing us any favors.  We pay for their products and its not exactly rocket science to realize that if the product is defective, people are going to complain and quit.  Defend it all you want, but please stop telling the complainers that they have no right to complain, despite previous examples of bad launches, they can never justify such terrible workmanship.

Except exclude Dark Age of Camelot from all those mentionings, it was never criticized for having a bad launch.

But yeah, the rest of what you named are doing how well now? Vanguard has launched bad, but probably not the worst. It has incorporated some of the worst mistakes you can have in a bad launch though; people losing levels and items, broken low-level quests, an entire tradeskill and two classes missing, and an obvious imbalance in content between areas and culminating widespread gaps in content.

Let's not get into the performance issues, off-centered communication on issues and a disjointed union between SOE on what's a bug, what needs petitioning, who to petition to, who's support forums or knowledge bases to use based on what problem you have.

Then there's the whole call for bug reporting and such which is really annoying...so obvious that we're still beta testing despite us paying.

Anyway, you can't class all MMOs the same. Sure, they all have bugs and missing content at launch that didn't go as planned. But that doesn't mean all must be forgiven, you judge them individually and then make a decision on what's acceptable and what's not. That's how it works, and that's why even though WoW wasn't finished, the vast majority found it acceptable while your Dark and Lights flop hard. There's a gray area, and Vanguard is sitting pretty low even if it isn't the lowest.

And for some reason the arbitrary ratings on this board matter?

Who ranks? Some person who makes up an account and puts a number down or honest people actually interested in rating a game. Personally I say its people who just jump on and make up stuff.

Lost a good amount of exp from a server crash in Wow ... so what does that make it?

Anyone in any of the BETA's knew that the tradeskill was not going to be in at launch. Was it some type of surprise to you? Where you one of them long time BETA players and missed out on that? The two classes that they were working on were also not promised at launch and everyone knew that in BETA ... I am assuming that if you were one of the long time BETA players you would have known that .... or at least followed the game a bit.

and an obvious imbalance in content between areas and culminating widespread gaps in content.

Ok what are you talking about? Or are you making things up? Gaps? You just want to say stuff don't you?

Let's not get into the performance issues, off-centered communication on issues and a disjointed union between SOE on what's a bug, what needs petitioning, who to petition to, who's support forums or knowledge bases to use based on what problem you have.

There is some lag issues and the problem with crashing at a specific chunk. Yes there is that and at times there is possibly a memory leak. In fact I am sure of it  but overall I played an entire night without a crash ... Though when i went on eq2 i crashed right out of a zone ... so yes these things happen.

And their petition system ... at least in SOE is well known. Thanks for letting us know. Technical support forums can actually be found on the SOE site ... Have you asked? Or just cried about it perhaps?

Then there's the whole call for bug reporting and such which is really annoying...so obvious that we're still beta testing despite us paying.

Never found a bug or exploit in current and well known games? And isnt it a good idea to report these bugs so that you may get on with your happy life playing? That sounds like a good idea.  Happens in every game.

nyway, you can't class all MMOs the same. Sure, they all have bugs and missing content at launch that didn't go as planned. Yes dark and light was bad ... but i dont agree that most games cannot be grouped into areas ... there are some things that SWG and DARK AND LIGHT did to its communities that are well known and its justified that action was taken. Yet as I have experienced with a lot  games ... hype on large scales make it alright ... even though bugs existed on wow, even though entire classes were nerfed to hell, even though people had to wait for days to get on, even though one had to wait 2 years for average expansion (even though they make millions and millions) , even though they have server down times on large scale, even though they have their share of technical difficulties........its ok cause its blizzard ... or it would be ostracising event to say something bad about the game.

Also you do have alot of die hard wow fanatics or people who's only MMO was WOW that can see nothing else as normal.

There there are thoes who just want to bash cause they had a bad day....who dont make any type of constructive comments or say anything useful.

I am seeing the same thing. Not that people are actually saying "I quit" - they simply stop logging on. I have a levl 13 alt and went to Veskals Exchange today, the zone was almost dead - less than 15 people in it and that was near prime time. Just a week ago I could do something like /w class and see 10-15 of just that class come up.

I have some quests there that will probably be impossible to finish because there simply are not enough people to even make up a group - assuming that anyone is at that particular stage of that quest.

If that trend continues, it is going to make it extremely difficult for anyone but a couple of the classes that solo well to get past 15 or so. I had my LFG flag up for 7+ hours today, and never got a single tell, and the zone chat has died to almost nothing.

Three rivers is a lag fest...all the dang people...renton keep was busy too...Kojan i had some nice pick up groups. Spider caves near Veskals was really busy and i couldnt get a widow spider if my life depended on it....too many people hunting it. People were hunting in that cave at 9am this morning.

So maybe we are on different servers...but ok Im having tons of problems picking up groups....yup..sure.

One quest took me about a day to do cause honestly I was not getting the right type of people but last night saw a large group in the beached ship in Qalia ... There were 12 people there not including us.

Honestly Im not going to beg you to join my group cause you have your LFG sign up ... your going to have to be in my area or ask me by tell ... So that LFG didnt work on me in any game. This one included.

Takaris, I fail to see how your experiences in the game are somehow more valid than his, to such an extent that you seem to think it negates anything he has to say about his problems.  Rather arrogant don't you think?  Just because you had no problem finding a group does not mean there isn't a shortage of groups over all, nor are your methods for getting a group the only right way to go about it.  Many people prefer to wait for tells, these people tend to be followers and they want a group leader to take command.  I mean, why even have a LFG tool if everyone is expected to take the initiative and start their own groups?

With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal
