EQ2 is not the best, but it is very good.  Worth playing for unhappy V:SoH folks.  But, I suspect the vast majority of V:SoH folks *have* played EQ2 already.  And were hoping for a more realized and complex 'EQ2' style game.   Feel sorry for them.

eq2 is a very awesome game, you shouldnt need to update yer ram and vid card to run it too badly, but i just put in 2 gigs of ram and a new vid card specifically for vanguard..now i can run eq2 on the highest settings in a group in instances and it looks frakking awesome!!!

    playing eq2 and two worlds

TWO WHOLE years of patching has made EQ2 what it is.. and only the recent Echoes of Fawder expansion has bumped it up in popularity due to the EQ areas in it.
VSOH has barely been out a month. It is in a much better state then EQ2 was at this point in its life.
I have come from EQ2 to VSOH and Vanguars is a much more better game.. and i cant wait for things to come in terms of them patching it and making it even better.

Dont play EQ2.. play vsoh... and just be patient for things to get better... really.

Or...Play EQ2 Now, and come back in 2 years when VSOH is patched up.

EQ2 is a great game.  It is very much better than Vanguard.  However, when I go to my EQ2 server there is no one to play with.  EQ2 is a ghost town.  It is probably the best kept secret in MMOs.

It simply could not overcome a bad launch.

Not sure where you are or what server, but on Befallen there are always a lot of people, and seldom have any problems finding a group if I want.

EQ2 is a train wreck. it's a simple, linear theme park MMO, much like WoW is- the only difference is a stuck up community who think they're more mature and better than everyone else.  it has a ridiculously stupid storyline, a tiny little world, and in the new expansion, some of the ugliest zones ever to grace a game. it's simplistic, inane, and suitable for nothing but lootwhoring.

I quit vanguard, too- but there's no way I'd ever recommend anyone looking for anything but raiding the same 2 or 3 instances over and over again go play EQ2. It started off interesting- but the changes they made turned it into a poorly done WoW clone without anyone playing it. Trust me- it took me over 2 years of sticking it out for the sake of my friends to see just how godawful the game is and realize that playing with the few people I liked was not worth putting up with such a horrible game. One look at the player character models should have been enough to warn me off, but what can I say. I was stupid enough to kid myself into thinking it was decent.

I think we must be talking about different games.

As far as "stuck up" goes, there is NOTHING worse than the Vanbois with their continual mantra of "go back to WOW" crap. If you want immature, they are the very definition of the word.

And I have no idea where you got that idea that EQ2 only has 2 or 3 instances to raid - on a typical weekly basis we raid from 10-15 different places.

Perhaps you just need to get out more and see the 90% of eq2 that you apparently have missed.

did you go out of your way to find a fairly unpopulated server

i have 4 characters on three servers and have not found a secluded spot on any of them

the PVP server 2 of my characters are on is simply packed IMHO - ganktown big time - pay back is coming - have only been playing for less than a month

EQ2 was certainly one of the most enjoyable MMORPGs for me. From day 1 I played every single day till I maxed out my character. Zones like NEK castle had great storyline and an amazing immersion effect on me. I was hoping this would bring that back but it didnt.

I would recommend it for anyone who hasn't tried it yet.

I played EQ2 for the first year and it pretty much sucked compared to Vanguard. Gameplay restrictions galore, heavy instancing, crappy loot drops, nonexistent community outside your guild, TLC, attunement.... yech.

Vanguard is a much more worthy successor to EQ imo.

Gameplay restrictions: If by this you mean you had to zone than yes. It's slightly more seamless in this game but you still zone... instead of a zoning screen you chunk and get thrown into first person. The zones where much more interesting and populated too.

Heavy Instancing: The only instancing in the game are some boss zones to reduce camping and some quess. EQ2 did an extrodinary job balancing the game so as to not make it feel like an empty game with instancing. I thought it worked very well and I was initialy against instancing.

Crappy Loot Drops: During the first year the loot was rather hard to get your hands on but this game isn't offering much more. At least in EQ2 by level 5 you can have a full set of armor by doing the noob quests.

Community:  THe community will always be better in a guild but I feel this game the community is much more worse outside a guild setting.

Attunement:  Attuning was designed to not flood the community with player made items that would eventualy be passed around and kill any reason to craft. Think about it next time. If your going to post please at least say what Vanguard is doing better than EQ2 because I don't see it.

    I think I will buy a playstation 3.

I still love EQ2 playing for 2 years has made me realise what a great game it is but its taken them that long to get it to where it is now the best MMO on the market but as others have said at launch time it sucked bad and its just never gotten over that shame it really is people who havent play it or only played it at launch dont know what they've missed.

    Best mmo ?

To me EQ2 feels like a small world with only 2 cities + many hunting grounds that feel not to be connected with that small world, with a lot of zoning to break immersion and generally, EQ2 has no soul.

I played EQ2 avidly since release with a few breaks thrown in for sanity.   I did cancel EQ2 for VG however like a few of the folks around here I got fed up with the performance issues and have put it on the back burner for now.  And back to EQ2 which feels right comfy after VG.

I haven't played V:SoH, but i have played EQ2, and sadly made a bad choice of servers the 1 i was on was pretty much "empty" on the start zones. I know that if i had someone to play with i'd still be playing EQ2.

You will see it with almost all MMORPG's if you aren't there from the start u are alone, and that kinda takes away the point of playing a so called "Massive _Multiplayer_ Online...." game, i'd say for those who are bored with V:SoH try LOTRO for example. EQ2 is fun but not alone. It doesn't take away that EQ2 is good fun when you are higher level and doing instances with a guild.
