Played EQ2 for about 2 months total, highest was a 40 Warden, but had a 35 bruiser and 30 coercer. I realized I was already bored with the game at 30, but continued with it anyway desperately hoping it would get better. A thing I noticed was how very few actual new abilities you'd recieve - the lack of variation across the levels grows tiring quick. There's 24 classes but in reality there's less then that many are simply alter-ego versions with minor differences. Nice for flavour I suppose.
It's pretty casual friendly and took many features from WoW to improve the gameplay but gods some of the zones lack life both in population and just visually. Antonica is embrassing; the textures are blantantly repetitive and looks ugly in many places - next to WoW's gorgeous texturework it's remarkably sloppy work. Player housing is a nice feature and the character customization is pretty extensive, but the hairstyles just ain't my thing they're all ugly to me. EQ2 also has the worst armors in existence in any MMORPG, it's absolutely horrible and I really mean it. Every outfit virtually the same and little to no variation across levels, they really failed in this department I can tell you. Totally gave up on this game since improvements where it was really needed never seemed to come.SOE's communication on the boards was also non-existant.
Overall it might be fun for a while but honestly it gets tiring pretty quick, of course every should try it out at least.
EQ2 is a great game. It is very much better than Vanguard. However, when I go to my EQ2 server there is no one to play with. EQ2 is a ghost town. It is probably the best kept secret in MMOs.
It simply could not overcome a bad launch.
Sad but true EQII is a fine title but don't give up so fast on Vanguard either as both are fine games.
Those kiddies will be ready for a game with depth at some point and when they do both VG & EQII will be there.

I think that's a matter of taste, i actually liked the armors and the way they looked, sure everything looks like crap if played at low resolutions and minimal detail (Not saying you did). I honestly like the armor cause it has the bumpmapping allover (SM3.0) and the lovely shine
I never really liked EQ2, but I am playing it for one year now waiting for The Chronicles of Spellborn to come out. I tried Ryzom in between, but that game really sucked. I have to say that I like Vanguard much better then EQ2 and it eases the pain of having to wait for TCoS much better.
It was prob just bad luck and bad people I had contact with but I have to judge it on what I seen, the worst comunity I have had to deal with, cluless GM's and very rude people.
see the only problem with that is , 1 i dont want to play a feary and 2 i dont want to be on a island, they just need to offer a normal trial as if i had the game.
I played EQ2 when it came out, I bought the CE It was prob just bad luck and bad people I had contact with but I have to judge it on what I seen, the worst comunity I have had to deal with, cluless GM's and very rude people. Its a game I quit and one im not going back too.
I agree with this and many people say EQ2 has a fantastic community but i found them very rude and boring + hardly any of them around. When i played i needed a group x 2 for a qeust but i cudnt find one and i looked for 3 WEEKS! In WOW i find a group every few hours.
Sure, why adventure in a new world when you can play in one with a bunch of people wearing shirts that say "been there, done that, got the t-shirt" Good call!
You ever buy those "arcade classics" games for xbox, ps2 or whatever? You're at the store thinking to yourself "Wow!!! I loved that game when I was a kid!" In your memory it was a really great game and probably state of the art for its time. You scoop it up and take it home then pop it into your system. After the nostalgia wear off in about an hour you more than likely will put in the new Madden, FFXII or whatever and go back to your normal gaming routine. I hope some people see my point here.
Well ever since the last expansion Eof, a ton of new people is playing and groups are easy to find at all lvls, i play wow and eq2 and find it easier to find groups in eq2, if you get into a guild you can do writs and lvl your guild up to 60 which is real cool. As for the trial you can go anywhere and you only have to make your first char a fairy after that you can make anything up to lvl 8.

You're absolutely right.
The EQ2 community is made up of people who are trying so hard to be mature that they just come off as idiotically arrogant. I've played every major MMO since EQ1- EQ2 has by far the worst, rudest, and most intolerable people I've ever come across.
At least the morons you meet in WoW are honest about it. The ones in EQ2 tried to hide behind a thin patina of 'maturity', which just makes it worse. But since there's only about 1000 people who play regularly (I know that exagerrated- so please, no need to come here and defend your little theme park, EQ2ers), you have less chance of meeting one of them. Or anyone, for that matter.

But as said that's just personal taste.
