Turbine, are you guys over there for real? This is exactly the same game as DDO except there is no static dungeons, same items, same everything...more lag, hopefully this is your final attempt at making an mmo...GET REAL!
This game doesnt compare to all time greats like SWG (pre-pub), AO, WoW...
Definately not buying this garbage...

Yeah its exactly like DDO except for not using the real time combat system and having the bulk of the game in the overworld instead of instanced dungeons.
I get called a Troll on a daily basis, but I enjoy divulging into peoples fantasys. So im going to use your nice picture here as my next avatar, do you mind?

Firstly you did not play beta or you are just trying to stir the shit.......
This game is nothing like ddo except for the look of the log in screen and user interface that does not look any different from any other game like ac2 , wow or eq2 ......
Game has an open area full of villages, have you travel the Breeland ,, i have never seen an mmo with so many settlements and little villages full of character.
Items the same??????? Not a single one
....some of them might look similar ,,but in DDO there is a very little choice of armour ,most of people ware the same
where in Lotre you habve a huge choice of armour and clothes. It is hard to find 2 characters that are dressed the same .. it makes up for simple character creation which I confess is not great
have you even looked up vendor list and crafting list ?,,,,
DDO does not even have Crafting
And Lotre has one of the most advanced crafting systems
there is an epic story line , going within the game , you keep witnessing great events we seen in the lord of the rings movies /book ...
DDO has no background Story ,,, just loads of dungeons with their own little non epic story-quests
Mounts , none in DDO
I could carry on but what’s the point you are obviously Turbine hater
I'm not a Turbine hater or lover but I can tell you that throughout my humble experience of playing 13 levels of Lore-Master and grouping alot, everyone DOES look the same assuming class and race are equal. All Elf hunters look alike, all human champions look alike and so on.
Funny enough, at level 12 I got my hands on a Roman looking armor kit and stood out significantly. Almost everyone was commenting on it. You can tell that it's something they don't see very often. Maybe it gets better later but so far, it's a bunch of clones running around with different names.
As for the crafting system, most advanced or not (although I would argue with that), it is useless due to the quantity and quality of looted items.
This game is cute, but it is hardly a breakthrough in any means.
Another dissapointment! Seriously, now I am amazed at the fact that newer games look worse than games made 3 or more years ago (WoW, SWG)... I'm not even going to start about intelligence-insulting simplicity, but just look at these terrible interfaces, awful animations (take a look at that wolf, urgh) and worse texturing. I once thought "cartoonish" graphics in WoW are bad, but comparing that game with all others on the market today (with the exception of Guild Wars and Eve online) shows that it's made by truly talented professionals.
If Age of Conan fails to impress, I am going to give up on MMORPGs all together, even though I am horribly addicted to them.
P.S.
Bring back pre-cu SWG, for the love of God! Now I wish it never existed...
NEW IDEAS that can refresh the STALE state of MMORPGs
I've felt that way since the NGE.
I personally think LotRO just goes to prove that the guys in the suits with $$ in their eyes now run the mainstream-MMO-show (as opposed to the guys with the 'visions'), and that they all think if they pump out some babified, dumb(ass)ed-down MMO experience that they'll emulate the $millions earned by Blizzard.
And I reckon the Blizzard execs still sit around at Sunday lunches, looking over the profit figures and break into hysterical laughter, saying "how the f-?"...
Are MMO audiences really so simple on average that a momentous IP like LotR can be turned into a Saturday morning cartoon MMO and passed over as a viable product for the franchise?
But more importantly, is this the sort of bullcrap MMO gaming experience we have to look forward to on average?
Will AoC be made point-and-click because the current system is just deemed too hard to use to be monetarily effective?
One thing is for sure with LotRO. It is not made by gamers for gamers. It's made to gel with the easiest and lowest common denominator.
It's a complete travesty to the LotR name, and is basically just exploiting the LotR name with a hard shell thrown on the DDO gaming experience (another IP exploitation).
Having played LotRO, I have pretty well lost interest in MMOs for the forseeable future. I'm going to concentrate on my photography and studies, and come back to this genre when AoC is out.
All in all, what a fkn joke.

Oh. My. God.
Having played the game for ten minutes I decided it was shit LOL. Ever think that the first ten minutes was the frigging tutorial and was designed to be simple so that people that had not spent four hours a night for the last ten years could get a grasp of the game mechanics before getting slammed into the Great Barrow? Oops never made it to Barrow Downs in the ten minutes, my bad.
I miss DAoC
Indeed. It took a couple of hours for me to get into it but I think it will be a fine game when released if they patch most of the bugs.
Besides, it should take you about 10 SECONDS after logging in to realise this game completely f'ing murders the Lord of the Rings name.
The reason I don't hold much of any hope for this genre is because of exact comments like yours; holding that this excuse for an MMO is good, and great fun.
Do you not think it's another step backwards from what once was a genre with immense potential?
I guess not, and guess this sort of click and grind crap is what we'll have to look forward to in the future.

I've gone from a 5 star member here, to 2 star over 2007 due to my (growing) lack of interest in this genre, and I do have a very extensive hobby thankyou. Photographed a surf carnival this morning. Was good fun.
There's a big difference between a game with the draw and content to captivate an audience, and one that is just a pointless grind for pointless grind's sake (ie two 'big' games with SoE's fingers in the pie) - ie the second job you talk about.
I'm just over this linear "go here, grind, quest, go to next place when you outgrow this place" setups. Guess I was hoping LotRO would deliver an immersive, sandboxish game.
Confirms one thing for sure though. I'm not touching anything Turbine put their men-in-suits focused fingers on from here on.
