I find it funny to those that say LOTRO is great and Wow sucks. I can tell you LOTRO plays a lot like Wow right down to the interface. The questing is just like Wow other then they use outdoor instance for the most part over dungeons. The crafting uses a node system just like Wow though the crafting lacks depth / content right now. I do like the game but it lacks depth that I'm looking for and will not purchase the game until a few expansion hit the market. Mirkwood and Moria the two I would like to see first.
I love how WoW fanboys just like you come here saying LOTRO is a WoW 2 when it isn't. Beta test and you'll notice the difference... So think before you speak thank you.
Turbine wishes it was Wow 2 hehe.. It's obvious Turbine took a long look at Wow for I'm sure they want to grab some of Blizzard's market. I'm not sure why this upsets you for Wow is a top notch game and Turbine just wants to cash in on it's success.
LOTRO plays exactly the same as WoW. The only thing that made me realize I wasn't playiing WoW was that the graphics are different.
If you want to truely differentiate LOTRO you will see that the games crafting is much different than WoW's. That is the only real difference.
played the beta for a very long time. This game wil.l do fine but its not going to do much better than 500K subs which is actually pretty good. WoW's numbers will never be duplicated again. There are to many MMO's out now and some new ones coming out that will just add more competition to a near maxed out MMO playerbase as it is.

hes right, its not really like WoW 2. Its actually more like WoW .5 . Sort of like if they ported WoW on to the palm pilot or cell phone. Its like a stripped down demo of World of Warcraft. An example of "some" of the content WoW has and a small sample of its world size.
.. oh no! I did-nt!
LotRo has awesome graphics though, I give it that. but so does lineage 2 and well.. it looks almost the same as guild wars so nuff said
"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a robot foot stomping on a human face -- forever."
Palm Pilot, Cell Phone, WoW2, WoW.5, Carebear Game... whatever you want to call LOTRO. There's a few things that you can't deny this game has:
1. Drawn more positive attention to it than any game since WoW.
2. An INCREDIBLE beta going, one that is more polished than ANY MMO released in the past few years.
3. Great graphics, performance, quests and lore.
4. More excitement built up 2 months prior to release than any MMO in the past few years... and has the presale records to show that.
5 A developement team that doesn't promise things that can't/won't be delivered.
6. A mostly mature and respectful community that doesn't need to run to forums of other games to troll and try to convince players that LOTR is best.
So... you don't like the game? That's ok. You think YOUR game is better than LOTRO? That's fine too.
Putting down a game on a forum doesn't do much. Remember... there's maybe 2,000 people on here at one time at it's highest. That's a very small part of the MMO community.
So... while you're still trying to log into your game, dealing with crashes, unfinished content, rude customer service reps, buggy clients and patches that don't address the problems.... thousands of us will be off exploring LOTRO and having a great time!
Cheers from Middle Earth!

Someone said I think on the 3rd page that LOTRO is for the 12 year olds. I was in the stress test and I only met one pisser offer. He said a lot of nutso stuff, you know the usualy lunatic who spams nonesense (in every game). Anyways, most of the time in that game I witnissed or was involved ina philosophical question, or about the Lord of the Rings. Some of them knew so much about Lord of the RIngs it shocked me, there was this Silmarillion (spelling) that talks all about the Lord of the Rings history, anyways it goes on and on. 12 year olds is hardley what I saw compared to Wow.
The first day I got into WoW I was killed by some evils and they humped my corpse.......
I'm not saying LotRo is perfect, nor the community, (I'm always hoping for an SWG community) but it's nothing compared to the WoW community. Besides...not all 12 year olds are bad.

Lets review some of this dribble. Some of it was ok some of it was just stupid
*************
1. Drawn more positive attention to it than any game since WoW.
*************
yup I have to agree there
***************
2. An INCREDIBLE beta going, one that is more polished than ANY MMO released in the past few years.
*************
actually it parallels the wow beta. So it was a stretch to say any MMO. As well Turbine took a pre existing engine that has been through two game launches and many art and graphic assets from DDO and AC2. Whats in game now had better be polished cause Turbine has had 2 years plus to work on LOTRO with no concerns as to engine and other standard MMO development processes.
************************
3. Great graphics, performance, quests and lore.
*********************
I would say great graphics and performance and Lore was automatic thanks to tolkiens work period. Quests are ok and copy WoW's presetting example pretty much. Can't fault Turbine for copying a system that just plain works.
*************
4. More excitement built up 2 months prior to release than any MMO in the past few years... and has the presale records to show that.
****************
your ignorance shows through. WoW actually had the most excitement of any MMO since EQ classic. They had a million plus playing the last stages of open beta and at this point in its beta program ( compared to LOTRO ) its presales were already listed at number 1 on the charts. Not taking anything away from LOTRO which promises to be one of the better launches since WoW. Just disputing a claim that is clearly wrong
*********************
5 A developement team that doesn't promise things that can't/won't be delivered.
*********************
umm you actually don't know Turbines previous track record to much eh ? Regardless only a fool would make such a claim at this time. Look at DDO and the promises and what was delivered with it. Look at all the poor folks who basically beta tested LOTRO when AC2 was out bought an expansion only to have it cancelled a few weeks after its lauch. To add sting we could play spot the AC2 expansion assets currently in LOTRO but we wont do that. So promote LOTRO on its legit merits not ones such as this.

6. A mostly mature and respectful community that doesn't need to run to forums of other games to troll and try to convince players that LOTR is best.

lol boy you are smoking some whacky tabacci there or really bad tainted weed. If you believe this community is going to be any different than any other MMO you are clearly dilusional. Point of fact WoW's community prior to its launch was pretty much the same. Look what happened to it after its launch. Once again a foolish and ignorant statement and as said promote the game on its merits not its non proven non existing merits at this time. In fact the very premise of this thread was to illicit flame bait and a battle between the two sides here. Logic pure and undeniable. I win here :P

Now im on the fence as to LOTRO as I see its good points and I can with out the blinders see its bad points. But I mainly responded to this particular post because of this particular last little bit of dribble. You pretty much contradict yourself every which way possible here. Could you look like any more of a fool than that little paragraph right there ?
Which game exactly do people have trouble logging into ? Last I checked Vanguard was the only MMO on the market with some trouble and one of them isn't logging in. Blizzard added over 10 new servers in the last 2 months. Hasen't been a que complaint with that game for that same amount of time now. Even then gasp should any game have the trouble of having to many people trying to play it !!! Rude customer service reps ? Standard for the industry and well Turbine doesn't have a stellar rating in this departement either your point was what exactly ? Buggy clients ? LOL LOTRO has its share of bugs but as said TURBINE canniblized so much from AC2 and DDO the game had better have as few bugs as possible. Patches that dont address problems ? Once again you are clearly not in tune with Turbine eh ? However this is a problem with every MMO and LOTRO will be no different. Anyone that actuially believes different is an idiot. Prove me wrong and for that we have to wait making such a claim now is stupid.
as to the last point that was the only line that made much sense. There is nothing wrong with someone that enjoys LOTRO that enjoys WoW or vanguard. Fun is subjective and as seen human beings love to debate what they call fun.
i happen to think that LOTRO is very similar to WOW in many regards.
Like a slightly improved version in many reagions, like graphics, quests, and lore, and the jury is still out on challenge, grouping and raiding, but i get the feeling they wont be quite as good as wow (expansion).
on the up side i like lotro and wow alot, and will play both bgoing forward since lotr will be a lifetime membership.
That makes me a world of Warlord of the ringscraft: the burning shadows of angmar cursade fanboi i guess
Lets review some of this dribble. Some of it was ok some of it was just stupid
Stupid because you didn't understand it or agree with it?

I said FEW years. I know that WoW had a great beta.. and it was released a few years ago, therefore I was talking AFTER WoW. And regardless it IS a polished game, which is quite different than what's been released recently. Who cares if they were working on the engine two games ago? The fact is it's in better shape than anything released since WoW.

Exactly. WoW's quest system is/was great. All MMO's take the best parts (or should) from previous games that had successful launches
*************
4. More excitement built up 2 months prior to release than any MMO in the past few years... and has the presale records to show that.

Dude.. you need to READ what I typed. Once again, I said FEW years... which would be SINCE WoW was released.

Once again, please READ what I said. I am talking about LOTR's developement team. Who cares what problems they had in the past. DDO was a bomb, we all know that. A previous bad track record can be thrown in the garbage if a company releases a good game... and Turbine is doing just that with LOTRO. You said "let's promote LOTRO on it's legal merits". Promoting it based on past games has nothing to do with the developement of THIS game. Practice what you preach

If you look at community posts in the past few months on this site, you'll see MUCH more trolling coming from other games here, than seeing the LOTRO community doing the trolling on other boards. Take a look and you'll be surprised. Man, you really like to call people names who say things that you don't agree with or don't want to accept.
*************************

Judging from your post history, it looks like you're one of them.

You're obviously trying to dig up anything to support your points... and to be honest, they don't work at all. Sorry for you, bud. Try bashing some other member or post, I can see thru your words quite clearly and anyone who takes a look at your previous forum posts along with this one will see it too.

Agreed. It was a bomb at release, but from what I hear now.. there's a lot of people who are enjoying it. That's one thing Turbine is pretty good at.. updates and content.

This has prolly been said but, it's the only other credible MMO coming out (that I can think of) within like 8 months, so i hope since its alone that its the best seller
Was just over at Amazon.com and the game is at # 2 there, been #1 at EB Games a couple of weeks now. This is really wild considering it is still 6 or 7 weeks before release.
Looks like Turbine will hit the magic 1 million sales within a few months after release. rumors on beta forums are that they already hit that on pre-orders.

I would be skeptical but I guess it is possible. I know on the beta forums polls a overwhelming majority of the testers seem to be pre ordering, and every time there is a fresh round of invites it shoot sup a couple of notches on the Amazon list, then settles back. Can't wait to see what happens when they have the public open beta
A lot of WoWs success was due to the Warcraft strategy games and Warcraft fiction, that and they released a polished game that ran well on a variety of equipment. Seems as if Turbine is going to follow suit, I can see a lot of people buying just because it is Lord of the Rings, people that might not have played a MMORPG before. I can see a lot of the PJ movie fans giving it a try. Still I think 400 to 500K is more realistic.

That makes me a world of Warlord of the ringscraft: the burning shadows of angmar cursade fanboi i guess
everything else is junk imo.

Was just over at Amazon.com and the game is at # 2 there, been #1 at EB Games a couple of weeks now. This is really wild considering it is still 6 or 7 weeks before release.

I miss DAoC
at this point im gonna guess 620,000 at launch day (april 24)
