In my honest opinion, and again its just that, having played just about every MMORPG on the market, been in beta for most of them, this game is far from Garbage...I think thats a pretty harsh word.
I think its great forum fodder reading everyone's reasons for why this game is great and bad. I find it a little sad to use Sub numbers to do it. EQ2 started off just as bad. People were complaining about how horrible the game was, calling it crap, garbage...all the bugs, broken quests, awful character progression...the constant zoning times....it was a game who many said was destined to fail...now most hail it as the best MMORPG right now ... go figure
How about EQ...that was the biggest mess of a MMORPG when it first came out..it was hardly playable. Over time things were fixed and now people hail it as 'the' best of the best.
Even i think VG right now is a horrible mess with bugs and issues that need to be taken care of sooner rather then later but its far from garbage. Is it good? No..its 'Ok'...is it bad? No....its 'Ok'.....But its playable..very much playable. The combat system is 'exactly' the same as any other MMORPG out there....the only one that tried to add something diff is EQ2 with the 'Wheel'...Wow, DAOC, EQ, Guild Wars, etc....all are button pushers...
The graphics are good, i love the visuals, the depth of field the game has but they arent anything 'over the top'. Performance will get better...it jumped 100% from when i played beta to live (or kinda live considering the state) and that will improve as well. just like every other MMORPG to enter the market, in a few months things will be so different.
If the game is boring, or uninteresting, than its a 'personal' opinion....one you are more than free to share but never should be pushed into the mind of the masses...let them make their own opinion.
Which goes for me as well...this is just my opinion...take it as you wish.
This is the PROPAGANDA! It is less than that! 60k sold boxes and about 40k players with multi-boxing is a good guess!
Its propaganda of propaganda ... thanks for the guess ... the developer is happy at 100k ... some players are happy at 100k sales what ever they might be ... you just want to say something ... anything so that you might be heard ... just so you can respond to something ...
you saying "Hey...someone responded to me!! ...WEEEE.." Well im happy to tell you...I responded to you.
Honestly...why are you on these boards bothering people? Trying to save lives? "Dont buy this game!!" you shout from the rooftops...Well you know what? You are talking to people who dont want to be saved...in any way...so im asking you...why are you here?
As people have said the quests are standard at best and in my opinion there aren't enough of them. The graphics are nice enough, the world could use a little more character, it seems a bit bland. Crafting is slow, and dispite their best efforts really doesn't take any skill. Diplomacy is good up to a point, then you run out of missions and have to do Civ diplomacy to advance, which is fine if you could find several people to work on it together, but i'd like more individual diplomic missions.
I haven't really had any bad problems with bugs or performance, although I am running it on the second to worst graphics level. I'm sure there will be a core of people that will love it, as with all games, but i'm starting to find it a little dull after a month.
I rely on peoples opinions of games when there is no free trial. I dont really feel like spending 50 or 60 dollars on a game that is buggy or is a grind.
If you like games that are a grind, then people saying a game is a grind should be a good thing for you, as it will attract people who like to grind to your game.
After playing mmo's for over 5 years now, ive had enough grinding, and im not really into being forced to group, as it isnt always easy to find a group.
If you love grinding, and wouldnt dream of doing anything without a group, this type of game is perfect for you.
If VSoH is so good, give me a free two week trial, and if it is really good, then ill happily buy the game for 50 or 60 bucks, until then the only thing i have to go by is what people say in forums about the game. So yes there are people who care what is said.
Being a big AOC fan I was highly skeptical of VG. I read a lot and even was a naysayer in many forum posts here. (you can check on that) I was not a fanboi by any means. Then beta 5 came up and there were free slots open. I was bored so I downloaded the game. To my surprise it ran well on my modest system... amd 64 3000, gforce 6600, 2 gb ram. I play with The Older Gamers guild and I luckily always have great people to play with. Of course being in any decent guild make grouping more fun. I think people forget this is an MMO, it's about being there with other people. Because VG offers so many paths to take I constantly find myself developing new relationships with people. The crafted items are so varied and in most cases better than even 90% of the "high end drops and rewards". This makes crafting a viable occupation. The crafters then need materials and the harvesters become valuable. This design choice in VG works well. Leveling after the first ten is slower and requires some forethought to do efficiently. the quests can take you through all levels and because there are three continents, there are many choices as far as where and how you quest and level. There are choices for the solo player and many for parties. Quest completion gives a lot of XP, just grinding and killing mobs gives much less. It's sad for me to see people come here just to crap on VG. If it's not your game then move on to bash something else. Most people I see doing this are serial complainers. Vanguard is a beautiful game, and the bugs are being worked on continuously. The game performance is much improved and there are no real game breakers for most people playing. BTW as to numbers... most people I know got a digital download and aren’t counted in the box sales.
Having a blast with our 100k+ subs. If you dont like it, we dont care. theres the door ==========>
If you don't like shots at the game you worship, you can always go to the official Vanguard forums. Oh wait no...
Hope he goes anywhere else but here ... he aint gonna learn nothing ... this place is full of trash. Thanks.
I dont worship the game ... just like making fun of you people ...
No problem. I don't play the game and have no opinion on it, I'm just here to make fun of fans who go into some rambling tirade about cartoons and WoW whenever somebody says anything critical.
Regarding the recent post about grouping up being important in VG. I think its essential. I am in a pretty active guild and TBH I log on to hang out with those guys before the game. Even so I love the game and so does the rest of the guild. This may have something to do with the grouping we do and completing challenging missions together and sharing resources etc. It was promising tonight. In some really remote parts of the game I saw 20-30 players and even had some good groups going for a while.
As far as people crapping on about how bad the game is etc. Please go back to wherever you play. I have played a lot of Mpog's that I hated but I never bothered to go on their forums and complain about it. At the time I was too busy playing a decent mpog like VG.
However I think people are their own worst enemy. I see people grinding out in TK (dungeon) for days to level up. Then they complain about grinding. I never entered TK because I was busy doing other missions in remote regions. I had some great experiences solo and with group. So if you wanna power level then you probably wont get the most out of this game. VG is picking up a lot and the bugs have been mostly ironed out and performance is being worked on.. I love this game because it seems to cater for the older RPG fan and that suits me fine.

You forgot to say "Go Back to WoW!". Isn't that what you guys used to say? You, my friend are a dying breed; The Vanboi.
I don't think I've played a game this bad since...DnL? I mean just wow...how do you manage to turn a game that was looking pretty good Into a pile of steaming shit that Vanguard is.The bugs in this game are unacceptable, The combat..oh my the combat..Never have i witnessed such a bland, uninteresting, boring, insulting combat system in all of my years of gaming.
The American MMO market just keeps going down and down and down..
Sounds like an opinion of someone that hasn't played the game.

Nope, sounds like some who has..
the first person is right the game is terrible ... it does have bad lag and the combat is bad i rather play guild wars or dnd than this and i played the game i bought it the first day and had a character to lvl 30 before i said that is enough i atleast gave them time to fix it and still nothing ....
I'm not gonna jump on the hate bandwagon. I tried it, still have it installed, and may return when it's sorted out. But I will say this:
It's wonderful to say that the game has '100k subs, and we don't care if you hate it', but where are these 100k people? Now I imagine that the US servers are marginally better populated than the EU ones, but on Gelenia (and I played a good three months through beta and into release) there's barely a sausage to see! I can count the amount of times I've seen more than 10 players in one location, on one hand.
Say there are even 10k people on Gelenia (which I doubt strongly); where they frying fruck are they?! And no, I'm not counting the standard mid-20-30's grind/quest spots where people congregate. Don't count guilds either. It's nice if you get into a decent guild, but a guild a thriving community does not make.
Yes it's a massive world, but because of the size, the poor quality of the finished product, and the practicality that there are just very few people around means that loneliness is all the more prevalent. Let's say there are 10 servers, for example, with 10,000 players on each. Where the hell are these people hiding when I log on at standard EU times?
Personally, I'm hoping the server merges will help alleviate the emptiness, but it would be naive to think the problem will go away.
100k? I ain't ever seen 'em, and I've played during the days, week nights, long weekends.. 10 maybe. No, not 10k, just 10.. Alright, maybe 20 once in a blue moon.
I guess, what I mean to say is, perhaps it's time to lose the, 'we have 100k subscribers' argument, because it really is quite meaningless. There could well have been 100,000 people signed up for this game. Means jack all to me when I'm staring at empty capital cities at prime times. There could be 100 people playing world wide for all I know.
Oh, and to the rest of you dogs yappin' at everyone's heels about how this is the worst game since DnL, get over it. It's not gonna be what you want overnight, if at all. Just move on and find something else to enjoy. It's just a game/hobby/time waster.
I think Vanguard could be a great game if the correct changes are made. The 30 mil wasn't entirely wasted, and I feel that there is a great base for rebuilding the game.
Mostly it needs some life to it. The terrain looks nice, and there are some very well made dungeons, but everything, even the supposed capital cities, lack stuff that makes them seem lifelike. The gnomish city is a good example of a place with character and life to it. The NPCs have some great lines and it looks like there's something actually going on.
It also needs a better combat system. Dual-wielding is absolutely atrocious, and functions more like a double attack feature. The animations are way too slow, as is combat in general. Skills interrupting your auto attack takes a lot out of the system, as you basically just wait for auto attack to hit, then press your highest damaging skill. Vulnerabilities/exploits are a decent idea, but badly implemented. They need to do something noticeable, not just another 10% damage to your skill.
Character customization needs vastly improved as well, both in terms of what your character looks like and how they are differentiated within their class. Very few classes have viable methods of branching out in terms of which stats you assign. More classes need different paths, akin to the shaman and the monk. Different ways to develop your character into something slightly unique amongst the rest, and account for different playing styles.
Models need vastly improved. Most of the women look like men, and most of the men look like pansies. The anthropomorphic races look alright, the Raki especially. Overall though, they all look almost the same. Put in the extra time to develop different armor models for different races and get away from this monobody crap.
Improve solo play. It doesn't, and shouldn't, usurp grouping play, but it should be interesting. Groups get all sorts of neat dungeons to play in, monsters to fight and rewards to grab. Soloists get rats, bats and spiders. Lots of spiders. I don't mind solo grinding for some experience, but I'd like to get something for it, and I'd like to fight something that is generally more interesting than a wolf or a rat. Same goes for solo quests, more variety please! Soloists will always been a denomination worth catering some of your game towards.
Enough money has been invested so far to make it worth attempting to revive. It's closer than most people think, I believe. It just needs some love from people who have experience.

And this my Friend is Exactly why the Masses will be Flocking to Age of Conan on October 30, 2007.........................
I doubt anyone who quit the game or has made ton of additional characters got past level 8 on them. Since the death penalty kicks in at level 7.
You may be right, but FWIW, I have three characters over 8(10, 12, and 14), and a lv5 and 7.
Doubt it's just me, because I find this game encourages starting over, when I start to feel the grind - around lv.10-12, depending on class and area. I don;t think it has anything to do with the death penalty, which is negligible at such low levels. It's more that soloing gets tedious, grouping can be a hassle, and either way, xp slows way down - so time to try a new character.
Course, how many are like me, who knows. Should be possible to group alts together, but guess it's not.
I have about the same and i quit, it's not just you because after launch i ws able to play for 2 weeks without buying the game or without charge. I was in beta and they said it was a known issue and they were fixing it so people don' thave free access from beta. Also alot of people probally bought the game and quit within a month or even used a buddy key cause they went out like mad.
I'd say Vangaurd has around 50k active subscribers who will go on to play this time next month.

Love this game, its a lot more fun that the five minute max level games. I will be playing this game long after you have switched games half a dozen times and still enjoying it.
As for subscriber levels, over 300k of characters in the stats so make of it what you will.
30,000 subs with 5 created characters. Hmm
You do the math

That can happen, some games are just not ment for everyone. Lets imagine that gamers do indeed like every other game out there, that every single game that is made will run perfect on every system from low-end to high end. Lets imagine that company's make games as a hobby not profit. Now also lets pretent we know things (corperate things ) with gaming. Lets pretent we have so much experiance that we already can say we had enough of games like Vanguard.
.......Nino clarifies the 100k figure as 'boxes sold', not subscribers. Pretty tough for there to have been a subscriber count when everyone is in their free month don't you think?
Let me beging by saying I bought a "box" and gave my buddy key away. I played until level 20 and cancelled because of all the reasons listed on the "vanguard sucks threads". One month later I tried the game again and of course all my players and alts where there. I realized quickly.... again.... that the game is awful and I cancelled again. So right out the gate, the character numbers reported in a prior post are wrong because 5 of those characters are mine and are not being played.
I absolutely agree that boxes sold has nothing to do with calculating the number of ACTIVE accounts other than to provide the ceiling. There is simply no way to know how many of those boxes that were sold actually are still playing.

Now reality:
Wake up.
Amen.
If the combat system was that bad in VG then it would be that bad in WoW, EQ2, CoX, EQ, AO etc etc. It's the same frigin combat system since EQ.

Sigh.
Brad did not say that Vanguard had sold 100k copies.
The NPD January sales figures are now out and Vanguard was 5th in January selling
37,501 copies
this is USA only; box sales only no downloads and VSoH was only on sale for 3 days in January. It will include all the pre-orders though.
Lots of links to it being 5th but so far I have only seen the figure on another forum.

Now reality:
Wake up.

Amen.
If the combat system was that bad in VG then it would be that bad in WoW, EQ2, CoX, EQ, AO etc etc. It's the same frigin combat system since EQ.
Wish Darkfall would release.
