Hmmm, I just realized what would make people who don't like DDO happy. They want a bigger focus on quests and the world and more roleplaying... they want LoTR Online but with D&D. Be sure to suggest it to Turbine.

Most said phrase during early access in europe for LOTRO about turbine:

"this is what DDO should have been like"

    second most said phrase

    "where's the hanging tree?"

    third

    "bolger doesn't work"

    you get the idea.... :-p

I just don't see how an open world game would work while still adhering to D&D -- namely with no regenerating HP/SP. In D&D and DDO the number of mobs are controlled, in an open world you could encounter any random number of mobs. So either break from D&D and allow HP/SP to regen, which gets the D&D rules purists' panties in a bunch, or have shrines every few hundred yards, which would just be stupid.

LoTR Online looks to be doing quite well.
Your post fails. D&D is mainly about groups and instanced-type dungeon crawling in some form or other, and DDO does both of those things very well.
Most DDO haters apparently want WoW with 3.5 rules or they want Neverwinter Nights MMO. Aside from certain rule changes or wanting big, open fields where they can grind on "random" monsters, or wanting to travel 15 minutes in order to reach their destination, I don't know what else people expect out of a real-time D&D game.
Guild Wars? Sucks. Neverwinter Nights 2? Eh. DDO feels like a "kick in the door" module of D&D.
Don't like it? Go play one of the other D&D MMOs then.

Funny, I remember several times We3bster put updates and postings about DDO and each every time he/she did, the community tore into DDO like a pack of wolves. If DDO did so great why does every forum criticize DDO so badly and why is regarded as one of the MMORPG out there? Obviously, the only thing DDO manage to do well was suck and Turbine worked hard accomplishing that.

Kudos to them for succeeding because DDO shouldn't have been made into MMORPG anyway. DDO is no way a kick in the door module. I never imagine my DnD experience being grind of quest just to obtain junk item and pay 15 dollars a month for a game that lack both roleplaying and a decent story. You can criticize all the other DnD games if you want, but all the DnD games have something DDO doesn't...a dominant roleplaying community and a good story.

NWN 1 and 2 are better than DDO. Custom content alone makes NWN games better than DDO. Free online gaming with your friend is just a cherry on the top.

DDO should be picking up more when Turbine does their all games pass like SOE soon.

Next weekend is Welcome Back Weekend II, June 15th. Everyone come check out the changes!

"Although Turbine's last game, Dungeons & Dragons Online, did not involve the same development team, that game does hang over he company. Davidson says the LotRO team learned plenty of lessons from DDO and that they are completely different games. He also notes that DDO is entirely different now than when it launched and that speaks to Turbines ability to take feedback and implement new content effectively."
Personally, I'm not interested in paying a developer to learn how to make a decent game.   I prefer to spend my money on a game that is decent to start.   MMORPGs seem to be the only gaming genre where this kind of failure is accepted, where developers are given this kind of second chance.    I think it's one of the great weaknesses of the genre and results in fiascos like the Vanguard release.
But as long as there are people out there willing to pay for games that need fixing upon release, the practice will always continue.

AMEN!  Expect more from your games! Your paying for them!

Well for one the all game pass didn't work for SOE because SOE is wildly hated (Ironically so is Turbine) and two, I do believe players will becoming back, but they just won't be staying...like last time. Veterans will leave a month or two early while noobs probably stop when they notice the Veteran disappearing.

Can you back up that claim, Lastera, or are you forging false realities yet again, tailored to back up your holy crusade to wipe Turbine off the face of the world?

Read the past and current post, returning players and players have left have already noted they only play a short time before leaving. The only person with delusion of grandeur is yourself random11. You're still on the boards and still troll. I left for a few months to enjoy life and came after receiving a mmorpg.letter, which I hadn't gotten in a while. I check in to see how things are going and here you are, still bashing people who bash the game. You're not helping the games image much picking fights with people opinions different than yours.

But like always I attempts to silence everyone who talks bad about Turbine's image because like I have every right to post on this board.

You're kind of the only one I ever picked a fight with, and just to let the others know, yes I had a hand in making you leave the boards, it was not nice of me, but all I did then was debunk your unfunded theorems.

Little do I care about Turbine's image, I am not on their payroll, so why should I? All I am here for is to argue and reason, but I must admit, I have a weakness, for I cannot stop arguing with someone who doesn't even reason, just post blind claims of hate. Wish I had the patience for that kind.

I read some of the responses and wonder if some of you critics ever played the game, pretty obvious you did not.

The game has darn good graphics, I have not seen better on any game.

Anyone whining about D&D ruleset changes is pretty clueless.  Board game rules and a MMO are two completely different entities, using board game ruleset would doom the game from the start, they had to make adjustments.

You whine about the levels, well you obviously never played a D&D board game as a level 15 character is almost godlike.

I have found Turbine to be one of the better developers out there, they actually listen to the playerbase.  Most devs do not.

This game was never intended to appeal to a broad market segment, it was strictly a niche product.  Sorry if you did not fit in the niche, but that does not make it a bad game.  Turbine had to get approval from the D&D people for any changes, obviously the D&D people were completely unfamiliar with what works with a MMO so they handcuffed Turbine.

So I don't see a lot of haters here, I just see a lot of clueless posters.

Oh and for Lastara, I D&D'd a lot when it is was the fad in the 70's & 80's, I always played a ranger and I never had a pet.  Maybe they added pets to the ruleset later, but the original ranger had no pet.   I really question whether you ever even played the board game.

I just re-subbed tonight and I got into a great group.  Leveled 3 times, plus did some solo stuff.

    Had great fun overall

I just subbed 2 days ago and I am having a lot of fun with the game.

I am on EU server Keeper, and although it's evident that the server is far from being crowded, everyone helped me out and logged their low lvl alts to do some instances with me and some other new players. This is  a nice change, since I just stopped WoW raiding, and I honestly can say now I can't believe I put up with that community for 3 years in a row.

For the flamers who bash the game and compare it to NWN, I just don't understand what your problem is, you are either dumb or doing some sort of viral marketing thing.

12EU per month is nothing for me, maybe it's a lot for a teenager's pocket money.

I enjoy the game, it's just fun to log in, and do a couple of quests with other people, and log out.

There is no 'grind', no need to constantly re-affirm your position in the community by showing off your gear etc and bragging about your guild's progress. Maybe that's what some people want from MMOs, a sort of self-confirmation -  dunno why that is or really care.

EQ-WoW have ruined the MMO communities, they created a lot of bitchiness and bigotry between players. When I used to play Anarchy Online or Dark age of camelot, it wasn't like that all.

I guess that's why I like DDO. It kinda reminds me of the 'old days'.

PS. The graphics are pretty good and the spell effects some of the best I've seen. Also, I kinda like how  the music is carefully selected to be immersing too.

Wow some things never change.  I see Capt. Lastera still lurks the DDO forums to make up for his lack of life...... Oh well I digress.

I have  been away from DDO for a few months trying out V:SoH, LOTRO and playing some GW again but noticed the DDO comeback weekend and figured that I would give it a try again.    Personally the game is a sweet game, only unsubbed so I could fully dedicate myself to the other MMOs I was trying out.   None of them really kept my attention.  I think Turbine did a good job with LOTRO but I am not a big LOTR lore nut so I got a bit bored with it.

I plan on reinstalling and resubbing tomorrow night.   Glad to be back around these parts.   Now to dust off my Fighter Jadi and my Sorc. Motivia and find out what all new adventures await me under the city of Stormreach.

Isn't it ironic that the word "casual" is being used to describe what many anticipated as the next hardcore MMO. D&D has always been a geeks paradise and very non-casual. The D&D crowd is hardcore and expects this in "their" game (read ... immersive, detailed and rich in legend/story) and anything less should be considered a DDO failure; a let down at the very least.

What they received was a scripted unimaginative "new" D&D world called Eberron.

    Who?

Why, the same people who just killed off THE DRAGON and DUNGEON magazine, of course.
