Being an ex-vet from Galaxies back before the NGE I never though I'd ever return to play this game. But I recently did, I don't know why but I did. I guess I felt what many here feel, the memories of when we played and how good it was back then. I knew this wasn't the same game anymore but I decided to come check anyway.
Radiant is the server I played before and what remains now is a virtual ghost town. I played for about 4 days but it was so bad I've taken off the game from my computer, this time for good. I still have practically the entire month in which to play but I won't. Coming back, all the memories returned as I once again saw everything as it was before. The scenery, not the people.
There may be a server or two who have people in them but I believe even those are nothing like it was before. Yes, there are a few of you guys who still like this game but I just can't see how anyone can pay money to play this game. My god, it's empty not to mentioned it's so much different then before.
Any and all doubts I may of had are now gone for good. In my mind I knew the servers are empty for many reasons. One being I see people coming in and telling us they are empty. Another being I knew most people had left because of the NGE. But I have the money and right now, the time so l went back. Big time mistake on my part.
Even though I'm very wealthy in game with many, many millions in credits it's like if I was poor since I couldn't buy anything if I wanted to. Buy from whom? No one there. Don't talk about Space, up there you will not, I repeat, NOT find anyone no matter the time nor day you go there.
I'm not flaming the game, simply making a statement of what I observed the few days I was there. Honestly, I don't know what's keeping this game afloat at the present. How are they making any money when the severs are running on empty or close to it.
When I returned, I came in with an open mind just to see for myself but nope, this game is nothing, not even a shell of it's former self. if you don't believe me, then spend the $15 and see for yourself. I spent it and although I don't miss the money, I feel like I just gave it away.
What a shame!

I did the same thing awhile back and came to the same conclusion. It just is what it is.

And if more people were this honest with themselves then maybe this could have been fixed sooner or at least a "do over" done quicker.
In the end as you stated.... "It is what it is"...... if anything you enlightened one more person getting ready to spend 15.00.
Hey look as a consumer I would want to know this... I would want to know what the majority of gamers feel about the product before I jumped in it thats for sure.

"Yes, there are a few of you guys who still like this game but I just can't see how anyone can pay money to play this game"
It is presumably something wrong with me. Perhaps a brain defect . I enjoy the game
Sololoco, you may not understand why people pay to play SWG and that's fine. I wouldn't waste my time trying to understand other people, it may drive you insane.
There are choices in life and it is my choice to play SWG.
Coming up on being in game for 4 years now.
I've had a love-hate relationship with SWG since day 1. There are things about the game that I love, and it has innovative features that no other MMOG has. But throughout its life it has been beset by bugs, developer incompetence and disorganized design decisions. But today the game is far better than it has ever been - for the first time it's organized, playable and fun.
The thing is, a lot of people are coming back to the game with the attitude that, in order to be any good at all, the game must be exactly like it was pre-NGE or pre-CU. In order to be objective they need to lose that attitude. Forget pre-NGE, forget pre-CU. That game is gone. Even NGE is a thing of the past. Judge the game based on what it is, not on what it was. In my view, SWG is the best MMOG on the market. All it needs is some more players to fill out the servers and I think this game could give all the other MMOGs (with the exception of WoW - whose success is a mystery to me) a run for their money.
Yeah, I came back in january and understand your feelings, but I swear, and boy I used to call people deluded for saying things like this, but it seems like the population of Starsider is going up...
Now, don't get me wrong, it's no where near what it was, not even the same zip code, but it has bounced back to the stage where you can find people you don't know to help you or join you in things.
It's not what it was, but I can't find anything I like more. (and I've tried, believe me.) I hope STO is awesome. I hate goblins and dwarves. Is it in the "Design an MMO by the Numbers" handbook that dragons and kobolds are the only way to go?
Altre Monserrat - MBH/MP
Aaden Monserrat - Elder Jedi
Starsider - <DFC> - Dark Force Clan
I had a nice surprise today - on Kettemoor I found Theed had eight people in the cantina and a bunch of dancers - all ATK. We kept Theed cantina attended by ATKers from 4pm to 11pm. Seems like entertainers are starting to bring the old cantinas back to life.
And I agree - nothing like this game exists, and goblins and trolls are lame. Give me sci-fi any day over fantasy. I hope STO is good too, but SWG is doing it for me again since the latest updates.
Yeah, I've been seeing a lot more people on Starsider at various times.
Whats that make , a grand total of 10 people now ?
On a more serious note...I came to the same conclusion myself a while back. I gave it the entire mnth though and made a new character entirely to better learn the new game. After a few days I got used to the new interface, not realy much different than the old...just uglier. I did run into a few people here and there, nothing much to speak of. At times though I could go days and never see anyone depending on what I was doing.
I found there to be no real content for anyone under max level. The quest line? Not even finished and uninteresting once you get out of Jabas Palace. Up untill that point the quest line was very immersive, afterward it lost all appeal. New game , same loopholes on grinding. I could kill monsters 40 to 50 levels above me with no chance of dieing. 50% of the time mobs would not even fight back, but just stand there while I finished them off. The PVP? Unless you reached max level, there is no reason to PVP or better yet not even a real chance to. The game should be in beta...thats not a flame. It truely should, it is unfinished and parts are still broken. And to top it off....If you want to play a grind fest game with crappy PVP....at least play one that works which is WOW. Not to mention at least you can run into more than 2 people a day while you play....you might *gasp* actually get a group.
If the game actually consolidated servers, burned dead cities to the ground and finished off mid level content...this game would be decent. Also more characters per server should be enabled so people can have alts, increasing the chances a new player will, OMGZORS....see someone.
Actually, the game has more mid level content then it does highend. It's just that alot of the mid-range stuff is not what you're going to be directed to through th quest series. There are alot of side quests you'll find along the way that give some pretty cool rewards, and entire dungeons like The Warren. The legacy series starts to get interesting again on Corellia, so if you havent' got to that point yet, could be worthwhile pushing through. The majority of Kashyyyk is also mostly mid-range content.
I agree with the PvP. They should make areas on some of the planets that are PvP zones only for people of certain level ranges and anyone outside of that cannot enter. There's really no reason why low-midrange players can't participate in PvP against each other, the only thing stopping it at the moment is the no-barriers landscapes (which is the only downfall I can think of).
I don't know what game you're playing, but this is simply not true of SWG now. The game is pretty tight right now. The only broken things are some of the oldest minor side quests. To say the game should be in beta, unfinished and with broken parts, is ludicrous considering how playable this game is compared to how it was in the past. It's never been as complete and playable as it is right now.
Somehow I think you have an axe to grind. The game is never going to become what it was in 2003-2004 - get over it.

Hi, I was a former long time player myself and haven't played in like 6 months or more. Curious to see what the game was like, I downloaded the free 10 day trial and created a new toon. I got to tatooine and han solo sent me to get my own speeder. I get the parts and get my speeder and.... and..... and I can't get in the stpid thing to drive it. I put it away, call it out, try this a few times over and over and still can't get in.
I haven't played since. It's still a joke, managed by drunk monkeys, played by people willing to either accept crap, or unwilling to let go of their lvl 90 toons.
The only possibility of this happening (at this point) is if SONY decides to make the game FTP..... or actually releases a new , pre-CU server....
Once a game loses its sub base and gets known as a ghost town... people won't come back.... (see DAOC, AC, UO etc)

sorry you need to buy a clue xp loss level loss an harvs cap 0 an this all in the last month.to say its tight is a joke what game you playing?
im jus gonna stop here tho still need to recover from this hype.
lol. I think I have a brain defect for posting here about the game.
Seriously, I have a couple of questions for the guys that currently play the game and enjoy it.
1. How do you get past the game's downright mockery of Star Wars by the game?
2. Do you ever feel guilty for helping SOE screwing the majority of the fans of the game?
1) The people that get so bent out of shape about the timeline are the same people that iron their underwear. In the end you would still have people bitching about the game in one way or another. I enjoy the game and I could care less about the merging of the timelines. As I remember it things werent all that great at launch anyway. Im a gamer and a Sci-Fi fan, but Im not an obsessive SOB that is so caught up in the canon that I cant enjoy the game.
2) I could care less!

I don't find the game to be a mockery of Star Wars.
I am not helping anyone screw anyone else. Those who don't like the game should move on. Let those of us who enjoy it do so without all the bs the haters give us for playing SWG.
I have always thought of SWG as being loosely based on the SWU. There was no way SOE or any other company was going to be able to stay in this time line and have playable Jedi and since people want to play Jedi it was just really bad planning. Not to mention if you were going to try and stay in this time line it would really limit what new content you could put in to the game.
Im a vet who doesnt play anymore and I dont feel screwed by the people playing now. Why would I? These people didnt cause the NGE they just happen to be enjoying it where I couldn't. More power to them. I come to these forums to read up on the latest changes and what people think of them. Since I am not playing but Im still interested to see where the game is going. I know the game will never go back to what it was. There will never be pre-anything servers. That game is gone. Sometimes you just have to accept it. That doesnt mean the game wont turn in to something I like at some point. All I can do is wait and see where its going.
