IMHO EQ is the best even with the new releases in the last few months. But I think their reign may end with the release of WoW... or it'll just get better with the release of EQ2 ...
Asheron's Call was really good a few years ago but when it came to the point of someone making 70 levels in one week I quit. We'll have to see where Turbine takes it from here.

CoH is the best of the recently released games I have played.
I think EQ was the best, and may still be the best if you have tons of time for their massive time sinks.
I think SWG has the best crafting system, but the game as a whole needs lots of work.
And, while I am not a fan of PvP, DAoC probably has the best PvP of any game I have played. I haven't played it in quite a while though, and I haven't paid to play any wide open PvP games.
It would be better to ask this question at the end of this year. I would like to try out EQ2, WoW, and Guild War, before I judge. There's simply no great mmorpg out there. EQ and DAoC might be the best of all, but it's still not that great. Lineage2 is certainly not a great game; the charactor creation is the worst I ever seen, control is too stiff and not smooth, the combat system is too simple with very little to no strategy even in team, not many items, no charactor devalopment, too simple and boring skill tree. The grinding doesn't bother me, but the game is lacking depp and content. Lineage2=Castle Siege of the Clone.
I enjoyed the City of Heros Beta when I was in it. It was a nice change of pace and was the best of the betas I had been in a long time... Only thing I am worried about is lack of content late game. I'm also looking forward WOW but that doesn't look like it is coming all that soon. But on the topic of Guild Wars... Considering the fact that I recently in the Alpha and have been playing it ever since, I know I am getting it. Their are a number of areas that need work, but it is only in Alpha and looking better then many retail games already.

AC1: Wierding from Harvestgain
yea your right, it is annoying that people can lvl like that in a week
but still, ive been playing it for 3 years and still remember the old days
and although it is easy to gain levels and the like, i still find it very enjoyable
besides, its tied for the best game rating wise
have a good one
