"We honestly know nothing about the PvE instancing, and nobody mentioned that."

Actually,Jeff Hickman has mentioned it in a video interview. It is in one of the videos in the sticky thread, a foreign one - either French or German.

He says there will be SOME PvE instancing. I know a lot of people moan about instancing, but I personally like appropriate use of it. I LIKE being able to grab a few friends and explore a dungeon and get some loot without fighting other groups for drops. But that is just me.

I believe itemization was mentioned somewhere, too. While not much has been mentioned, other than that yes, there will be a lot of race and class specific equipment, I have a theory on how drops might work.

They say that loot can be quested and will be dropped in PvE, RvR and that there will be loot scattered around when you win a campaign and sack the enemy's city. I would not be surprised if there is some form of dynamic looting that varies based on who is doing the looting. That is to say, if a Bright Wizard picks something up, it will be a Bright Wizard item, but if a Dwarf Hammerer picked it up, it might be a Dwarf Hammerer item. I think this might be the case, especially in campaign victories, simply out of necessity. Every victor should be rewarded in some way, perhaps not equally, and to ensure this they will need to avoid having ten Witch Hunter treasures if only two are present, which would leave some Warrior Priests out, for example.

They have already said this is how it will work for quest rewards. WoW SORT OF does this by offering some different rewards, but even so, one is usually only given perhaps one choice for your class, if that. In WAR, it sounds as though every single quest reward will vary by class. So, if you are a Witch Hunter, you will only be offered Witch Hunter items and never anything you cannot use. I like this, as it allows one to have a broader selection, whereas WoW pigeonholes people much of the time.

ok ,for those of you that are worried about not being able to customize your characters here is a quote from the Disc of Tzeench Press Conference

"Paul also said that there are so many ways to customize your character in the game that they hope no too players look alike. They are trying really hard to keep players looking like individuals."

They are hoping that with an abundance of trophies and armor and all that stuff that you will be able to customize you character to you liking.

Also, many people groan about instancing, i think that without instancing, one side (the order of destruction or w/e) will overpower the other side in every PVP encounter just because they have more people, that is the reason for instanced PVP, and there will be open PVP even if it is not worth as many points.

PVE instancing is needed because there are always going to be that hardcore gamers with no life that sit and grind a monster 24/7, so Instancing at least the dungeon encounters will let players obtain the loot with their group of friends and not have to compete with anybody else.

Pro: based on Warhammer, Squig herders (i play an all night goblin army, so when i first herd of the game, that was one of the first Questions that came to mind "Will i be able to control a Squig?") and ultimate RVR

Con: well, i guess it would be number of races, number of Tiers (large level-like things) beingonly 4, only 2 goblin classes and 2 orc classes, and no fanatics(at least none i have heard of, and i'm bummed that i cant play as one...)

You gotta realize there's no logic reason why anyone should be able to play a fanatic right? xD They are so crazy they cannot control themselves.

  • saycheese92saycheese92 Member Posts: 24
ya i know, thats why my first question wasn't "will i be able to play a fanatic?"  still it would be kinda cool, but i would never expect it in the game, at least not as a career option, i'm just saying that it would make me even more hyped about this gam.e (if thats even possible)

if u could control a fanatic(well not really control since thats impossible, but influence its actions at least)

Pro: New spins on the RVR brought to life by DAoC

    Con: Limitations on Chaos

    Minor pro: It's warhammer

Minor con: It's fantasy warhammer rather than 40k

wow that took longer than i thought for somebody to say no skaven lol

the reason for no skaven is that they really have no natural enemy/ally that isn't already paired up.  they did fight the Night Goblins and Dwarfs in the underground tunnels, but those two are already paired up, also they attacked empire settlements, but those already fight the chaos.  they are kinda controlled by chaos gods, but we already have a chaos army, and still nobody for them to fight, the only way i can see to incorporate them into the game as players would be to have a 3 way battle with the Dwarfs, Gobbos/Orcs and Skaven, and then a 3rd match would also have to be found for the empire vs. Chaos, and the elves vs. dark elves.  lastly, the skaven live underground more then any other race, so their encounters would have to be more underground, which is a much different type of game than above ground fighting.  Underground fights would be awesome, but very hard to do

i'm worried about the gameplay, ui, movement, graphics.

also, i'm worried that pvp will just be like: ppl targeting the enemy, then going in front of him, then pressing skills, being glued to the ground....

but the fact that there is no farming/grinding and levels, and that its all about pvp is wut i like.

i like to log in and say, "ok lets bash things and have fun" instead of "oh, now i have to farm for that uber weapon so i can -later in the game- pwn in pvp"

I'm going to start with misc.

Misc: I think the Graphics look very Warhammerish! and sweet.  Not too spiffed up! its an MMO, and I dont want it to be a Lag Fest, the UI looks simple enough, and the Classes look solid. The instancing doesnt bother me, cuz i know they will do it right.  The zones look to be very strategic and I hope it plays out just well.

Pros: Its WARHAMMER!!! You cant go wrong with warhammer, its one of my favorite Lores besides Star Wars and I love everything about it.  The books and especially Dawn of War the rts experience.      I think the 6 races/factions plus the individual classes look fresh to other mmo's.  and the game will be down right awesome. RVR is a pluss also.

Cons:  not many cons for me...  I mean theres a few things i wish they would add.  Like more lore, more gods, more classes.  but im sure all of that will come with time.    I hope this game doesnt have a bad community is all, im worried it will attract a lot of so called "nubs".  but as long as they like Warhammer im sure it'll be fine.

Pro: Its an adaptation of one of the best games ever

    Con: Too much instancing

    Secondary Con: 36 on 36

Secondary Con: Too many similarities to WoW (a game that most of us hate but since there isnt anything better we are stuck with)

I love WoW, but I'm looking forward to WAR.

And if you want just plain 'fun factor' you will have to have a lot of similarity to WoW. The main reason its so popular is because its fun and it does not take a major time investment to "get to the fun part".

Vanguard tried to do things 'old school', and it did not work out the way they intended. Even the "HARDCORE" gamers and reviewers complained that they should have used WoW as a model in certain aspects.

WOW took away the boring bits and tried to leave only the 'fun' parts of MMOing. If  WAR did not use WoW as an model for their game, they would be, in my opinion, taking a step back, not a step forwards.

What WoW did differently was to make the MMO more accessible to everyone. In doing so they 'advanced' the genre. Unless MYTHIC plans to completely revamp how MMO's play and feel, I don't think there is anyway they can avoid being similar to WoW  if they want to move forward. Their plan is to take the WoW model (and this is purely assumption) and improve upon it, especially in the PVP area.

And I for one am looking forward to it.

I'm going to make a list of each, regardless of whether anyone specifically asked for one of each.

    Pro(s):

     - PvP focus (i dont think there are many other games that you can pvp this early in the game)

     - Different quest modes (global, local, etc..)

     - Warhammer humor (With skills such as Run Em Down and Hammertime, you know they are grasping the warhammer humor concept).

     - Warhammer look (screenshots so far show awesome detail in the orcs and goblins, I am glad they are trying hard to capture the warhammer look)

     - No specific support class (I read someone say this as a Con, but I think of it as a Pro).  The problem with current MMOs these days is, each person has a specific role and they are usually required to play that role when PvE or instancing is in place.  in WAR, everyones role is to fight and beat the tar out of the enemy before they do it to you.  Now granted there are still tactics involved (keep melee away from clothies etc..) but there isnt a specific "build" or role that they have to do.  None of this, you are a warrior which means you tank, put down the two-hander and grab a shield and absorb damage.  None of this, heal us dont use offensive magic.  Now granted there will be some small healing going on I'm sure, but they have made it clear that they want the feel of the game to be WAR.

    Con(s):

     - The wait..... Although this could be a Pro if it means the game is released solid and grabs a large player base right away because of its awesomeness :)

    Pros:

Everything. The Warhammer Fantasy universe is fantastic. The whole concept of "All war, all the time" reflected in every facet of the gameplay, from PvE to RvR, makes the game seem a lot fresher.

    Cons:

Limited number of races, Tzeentch instead of Nurgle for Chaos players.

If you want a real harsh death penalty, go play Russian Roulet. - Hamzal

    Pros:

The way PvP is set up and the games overall beauty.

    Cons:

    Doesn't look that customizable.

I actually agree with Lithdove. about his cons. I do understand the reasons behind the limitations though.

The limited races don't really bother me all that much. 6 races and 24 classes is a lot of choice. It would take significantly longer to put in more races with adequete content for each pairing.

On the other hand Paul has explained, repeatedly, why the other Chaos deities are not in the game and will probably never be in the game:

Khorne: Warrior Deity- No magic for you, everyone would pretty much be a berserker.

Nurgle: It might be a tad hard to get a disease ridden, bloated and contagious character to appeal to the average player. Tentacles are one thing, puss and mucus are another...

Slaanesh: Sex, drugs and rock 'n roll!!

Slaanesh is all about hedonism and excess. No matter how you implemented it, it would be very hard to convince the ESRB (and the player base for that matter), that Slaanesh was not all about "sex, drugs and rock and roll".

And honestly I would be terrified if Slaanesh characters were in the game *shiver*, the tells for cyber in most games is bad enough.....

    An Example of Slaaneesh: www.secretlivesofmobs.com/index.php

Here is a link to Paul's Description of Chaos and why some of the deities are left out:

On the plus side, the game is being made by Mythic

The downside to that,  Mythic was eaten by EA
