is this suprising or somthing? we all know wow is pretty successful and has alot of players on it. its not that amazing to me. wow is pretty good. its just a little too cartoony and takes some time to get to lvl 70 for me. pvp wasnt all that fun for me either. people jump around like rabbits too much and that looks stupid and unrealistic. plus the dungeons take around 5 hrs to complete and i cant play that much at once.
I honestly couldn't care less about their 8.5m subs, i would be more intrested in how many people are playing at this moment on regular basis.
And yes even so they deserved it, they put up an awesome game.
I've been playing wow forover a year now (i think) and yes i did like it, but quit recently (so did 50+ of my guildies) we've been in several games before and are looking for a new game to play.
Hmm, I thought 5 million were Korean Gold Farmers. Are they counting alts?
Why don't you re-read this thread, then you can answer your own question? If you had any interest in this thread at all, you would have seen multiple references to the subscriber definition.
Ah but of course, you wouldn't have been able to say "Hmm, I thought 5 million were Korean Gold Farmers."
Since this is obviously (even to yourself) just a childish insult towards WoW (bordering on racism), one can make some interesting observations about the type of person that posts this drivel.
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
Racisism? Why because I said Korean? Dude, you got some issues. Maybe you need to get out more or something. First off, where do you think all the Gold Farmers come from? Montana? England? If you don't think there is a huuuuuge majority of gold farmers making up that number, then you really need to do a google on WoW gold. Doesn't matter..i'm bored with you...bye bye now.
If WOW has so many gold farmers that just proves how popular this game is. The fact is WOW is a great success and some people are jealous and bring in negatives. Laugh at the figures if you like but just about every single one of the servers has a nice population , what is considered a low population in a WOW server would bring tears to most other mmorpg devs.
Sorry WOW is here to stay for a while you haters and will probably outlast whatever you are playing right now.
To the person who mentioned LOTR's taking out WOW, what a joke. This is made by the same people who made the dungeons and dragons online and AC1&2. AC1 was a good game for it's time then they ruined it and AC2 could have been a great game except they released it too early and mismanaged it. Dungeons and Dragons online, i only played the beta but thats all i needed to play........Nope sorry they will stuff this one up too!.

I think WoW will be around for a long time. But I don't think it will be the front runner once Warhammer and Conan come out. Everyone I work with are getting bored with WoW and are seeking out a new addictive, I have no life, play 10-16 hours a day MMORPG. I agree with you on LOTRO taking out WoW, that's not going to happen...They may get a big player base, but nothing compared to WoW or the newer stuff coming out down the road.

LOL @ LOTRO. The ignorance on these forums is great...or shear stupidity ... not sure which one.
Seriously LOTR fanboi's you must never have played a Turbine game before. You probably don't know what they did to AC2 players after they released an expansion and charged good money. Let alone when that game was released for the first 3 months or so chat was broken and you couldn't tell if your friends were online or not, let alone talk to them..... they are the same people who made D&D online which people were saying would challenge WOW, i don't see D&D online in anyones hit list.
Conan,Warhammer might make some headway but LOTR i would not hold my breath.
And were are the magority of the 8.5 million people playing?
China; by nearly half If I'm correct.
WoW's subs don't really impress me that much when I can log in and just about every day get a letter from a website informing me how cheap there gold and powerleveling services are.
I also wonder if the $1.99 free trials you can purchase in stores are added to the overall numbers. 5 mil. didn't buy the expansion, but then they didn't pachage the original game with the xpac like a lot of other companies do; would have sold better if they had.
And the guy that said WoW has little endgame content, dude, that's what WoW is about. Endgame, and they have more of it then most MMO's on the market; with almost a dozen dif. endgame instances, (maybe more).
If only they would add more to do outside of combat.
And were are the magority of the 8.5 million people playing? China; by nearly half If I'm correct. China population 1,313,973,713 (1.3 billion) - 5 million subs
NA + Europe population = 514,600,000 + 690,000,000 (1.3 billion) 4 million subs
So its about right.

Yeah thats a big problem having to visit a post box once in a while to delete a spam. but i agree blizz could do more to filter your messages, but then guys will complain if a message is delete and it was not gold farmers.

No trials of any kind are not counted.
World of Warcraft®'s Subscriber Definition
World of Warcraft subscribers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or have an active prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the game and are within their free month of access. Internet Game Room players who have accessed the game over the last thirty days are also counted as subscribers. The above definition excludes all players under free promotional subscriptions, expired or cancelled subscriptions, and expired prepaid cards. Subscribers in licensees' territories are defined along the same rules. The Expansion is only avaliable in North america and Europe, the total subs accorinding to blizz were 3.5 million, and 3.5 million copies of TBC were sold in the first month (2.4 million in the first 24 hours, thats 1 damn fine conversion rate.

Ah so you do actually read posts? No comment on why you missed the completely obvious point, but as you say - you're bored, right? Too bored to be correct?
The majority of 'Koreans' as you put it, that gold farm come from South Korea - if you knew of the wider world that exists outside your back-yard you would know there is a South Korea, and a North Korea - and they are both very different places, with different standards of living. So by labelling all Koreans as gold farmers (a large percentage operate from China, btw) - that is borderline racism.
There is no two ways about it. I can forgive you for having a foreign cultural knowledge of zero, but for trolling this thread, wrongly inferring that all gold farmers come are "Korean" (forgetting a country with a tiiiiny population like... oh I don't know CHINA), and implying that all the Asian players are gold farmers (which isn't possible btw) you fail today's troll aptitude test and win the ignorant racist award..
But please, don't let my political correctness bore you.

but if you do find this game fun keep playing i just one that does not
Get a life? Well, WoW is obviously interesting enough for you to use time browsing the WoW forum, and post here. I suspect jealousy, since your mom wouldn't pay the subscribtion!
Not to knock the game or anything, but probably a great deal of the 8.5 million are second or more accts. My brother in law in China has 4, he has a friend with 3, and apparently this is quite common due to the fact he has a farming acct and China has put a limit of 3 hours per day per account usage. They did this to avoid the addiction problem that exists in Korea. It doesn't solve the problem though, obviously.
Monthly fees and game software are much cheaper there.

Chill. I wasn't serious.
Played the game for 2 years. I accually like it.
So sensetive.
