Not bad. That armor looked nice. Not sure if I'm very happy with that collision detection though, they are planning to work on that right? I'd like to see a little more on the larger combat, sieges and all of that. I'm still a little annoyed that shields aren't getting much of a place in this game, it's the one thing that's keeping me from making a final decision on which game I'll be playing.
Looks good, but as the poster above me noted the colision detection needs work..
Also the mobs were sorta warping a bit it seemed which tells me thats a game engine problem, which I have been saying for months now would be a major problem in this game since its the same one that was in Anarchy Online. Wonder how its going to be when there are lots of people around(not 5 or 6) in a small area putting stress on that game engine.

So what do you suppose it looks like - fighting something that doesn't die in one or two hits? I suspect the much touted combat system has a few short-comings. There isn't much footage and what's available doesn't really "WoW" me. I'm just sayin'...
Bear in mind, those guys were playing with GM buffed characters. Jorgen even admitted he was a level 32 in a level 15ish area. I wish they would quit doing that, since it makes it hard to tell just how fastpaced the combat will actually be.

Tinybina I'm not sure what makes you think that this game engine is the same as Anarchy Online. From what I understand it is nearly new from the ground up, but does have some mechanics from AO within it, such as AO's mission system, which they used to build this games dungeons. In fact the problem with AO and lag isn't that the engine is terrible. It's because it is so old that it has a hard time with newer video cards. If you play the game on a computer 3-4 years old you'd be suprised how much less lag it has. The devs are supposed to be updating the engine to accept newer cards. I'm sure the problem wont persist with AoC.
" Age of Conan is based on Funcom's proprietary DreamWorld engine, a technology we've spent years making and adding to. The engine has gone through many iterations since we started to work on the MMO Anarchy Online in 1996"
The engine is the exact same one that is running Anarchy Online its suppose to be a so called upgraded version of it. And yet we see in the video's that we have seen so far the same problems that we had in AO, like the gliding effect that characters would go through which can be seen in that Beta footage leak.
I played AO back in 02-03 and people were complaining back then about the the lag, we won't even talk about what happend when Notum Wars hit and people tried to have big Tower Battles....
Like I said the engine will be a major problem with this game, some of you people can try to deny it but im willing to bet that it will be a huge problem in AOC just like it was in AO. If people are into big PVP battles this game engine will be a major letdown, mark my words.

Both collision detection and rubberbanding are not as intended in this video. The devs have stated that the server was not optimal and the netcode has not been optimized. They've talked about collision detecction before and what was in the videos was not what was discussed. I'm assuming it's going to be fixed, but haven't had dev support on that one yet. Remember, those videos are from the Alpha / Internal Beta stage, so ALOT will change.
And as for this game not "WoW'ing you...I'm glad. If I wanted to be WoW'd, I'd play WoW. Or even LOTRO, or Vanguard. This game is much much diffferent, more mature (as in mature content, but hopefully as in mature playerbase), and much less high-fantasy, and a much different combat system. I'm looking forward to this game pushing the envelope in some aspects that are considered 'standard' to MMOs.
The graphics look fine, nothing special really(as far as the dx9 version goes).
The whole "we are not trying to please the teens with this" made me laugh, the whole mature-mmo thing is clearly nothing more than a marketing tactic. I mean really, what kind of teen is offended by some mild animated gore?
I was thinking the same thing after I watched the video.. Unimpressive and dull.
I dunno when I watch these few videos that we have of AOC it just does not appear to be entertaining. And if I wanted to be bored out of my mind playing a MMO I would be playing EVE Online.

That's what I'm thinking, what they are showing isn't living up to the hype. There is next to no footage of the combat system and what's presented seems to deliberately avoid showing protracted fighting. The static screenies look great but the videos look no better (and maybe worse) than other MMO's out there. For a game that is supposed to be in the final stages before open testing it's looking remarkably unpolished.
The game is gorgeous, the scenery is beautiful, the armor looks awesome. (I know I"ve posted this a thousand times)
But that's still all they have. From the looks of the video, they've minimized the foot slide that the characters have. However the mobs still suffer from very basic problems. When the big guy with the tiny batwings pulled out his club, the entire time he was sliding toward the player. The only other place I've seen sliding like this is AO, and it seems like Funcom is still having the same problems with it in another game.
The arrow paths need to be arched more. They have a very unrealistic feel in a hyper realistic game.
So far, I think this game is just there to showcase what DX10 can do for graphics. Everything else seems bogged down with issues.
On a sidenote, if that duck to the left thing is how the player dodges..... I hope they never swing to that side. A jump back dodge would be much more universal and would have a much more desired affect. I had no clue what he was doing the first time he did it.
EDIT: To oronisi: This game hasn't been in alpha for damn near a year now. Open Beta is coming up in a month or so, there's already been beta footage leaked months ago.

This game looks gorgeous! The combat looks like it might actually keep my interest. A breath of fresh air from the automatic click and let the computer do the rest you get in most games. Also during the demo footage the Dev said that the AI was toned way down. For example when you approach a camp you can either charge in and try to kill everything or sneak in and poison their water supply or take out their watch Guards and then stalk and murder every one in the camp. While the game play looks promising the only thing I can see that might be a problem is the Lag in large siege battles. I’m hoping they make sure this isn’t an issue.

Thats one of the things im talking about I too have only seen that in one other MMORPG and that was (suprise) AO. And they both use the same game engine basicly..
I think everyone should know by now that I think they made a major mistake in using this engine but hell I can't help but say it agian. That game engine ts just going to come back around and bite them in the rear end. Major mistake.

I'm glad someone else noticed that. I was looking at the guy sliding towards them while unsheathing his weapon, and I was thinking "I've seen this before, but where???" and then I realized where.
It looks ridiculously horrible, and if AO is any indication of wether they'll fix it or not, I'm thinking no. It's still in AO, and it's always been in AO.

Ok Tinybina its getting really tedious reading how much you like posting about AoC's so called crap game engine, and comparing it to AO when the game isnt even out yet - nor is a playable beta version in your hands. Yea so you can have a point by saying "major mistake" etc your entitled to your opinion, thats cool, but come on......... give it a rest. Sounds like your bitter about your AO experience and now you wanna take it out on Funcom's AoC. They have stated its an upgraded version of AO's game engine - good, now do us a favour and stop saying it again. The Foot Slide issue i've personally seen in Guild Wars playing as a Ranger, also seen it in other games too. They know their game engine inside out and issues like foot sliding and character blocking, mobs just standing there when one guy in the mob is being attacked and the others not helping, have all been talked about by the developers on the offical forums as insignificant area's that are being tested and worked on. If your so into 'slating' it's engine I suggest you register on the offical forums and bring your concerns up there. Theres plenty of Dev quotes on the subject not to mention several topics posted to, go read the replies. Far too many of your negative comments about AoC game engine are spead thru the forums here, just give it a rest ok because its getting pretty tiresome, especially as beta is out yet. Boy if you get AoC how will you ever contain yourself under NDA? I mean what are you gonna achieve? whats your constant purpose to slating its engine? do you think that when the game gets launched and maybe it has some errors you can come back here in 7-8 months and say ' I told you guys so'? Do you think people will even remember? You know its not even constructive crititism you say.

I normally don't like defending people, but your post is just complaining that Tinybina complains too much. I've complained about the game as well, and stated worries about issues that were in AO showing up in AoC. These latest videos are simply "confirming" the worries.
The footslide thing. She, nor I are talking about the PC's footslide. We're talking about the Mob not walking up to you while he's doing something, but sliding up to you. Watch the big guy with the little wings when he pulls out that club. He slides about 10-15 feet towards the PC. When I played AO about 6 months after release this was in there, and when I played it when it became F2P it was in there as well.
The game looks amazing as long as you either look at screenshots or you ignore a lot of the animations. Visually it's stunning. Mechanically it's flawed. And we're not talking about a game that's in Alpha or Early Beta. We're talking about a game that's been in development for over 2 years and is still showing the flaws of a previous release that used a toned down version of the engine being used.
Her worries and complaints aren't unfounded, but you can't say "The game isn't close to being finished" anymore. They claimed to be pushing back the release to date to put "polish" on the game, not to fix basic animations like unsheathing a weapon while walking. And I know someone is going to say that I'm spreading filth about this game too, but I only call it like I see it. If a game has been in development for 18 months or less, you can say "They've got time to fix that." When a game has been in development for over 2 years and they've pushed the release date back twice, you start going "Are they going to fix that?"

this games graphics are out of this world the armour and scenery is crystal clear however i think the downside is the combat when watchig the vrious vieos i found that there is only one type of hit this is annoying and repetitive and therfe needs to be different ways to combat!!

One thing though AmazingAvery if your tired of me talking about how big of a mistake that using that game engine is then I suggest you just ignore every post with my name in it.. Its that simple.

You guys are a tiny bit misinformed. They have new videos out stating that the player is a 32 and the mobs are 12-15. The game is IN an ALPHA STATE, and CLOSED BETA starts soon. I got an email just two days ago stating as much from them. The game will not be out for 7 months and you do not open beta test a game for 7 months. That video had a lot of animations missing. The videos with him commentating what is going on he states that himself.
AmazingAveryAge of Conan AdvocateMemberUncommonPosts: 7,188
Exactly, what is the point of dissing it before its even out. Regardless of whether you think the AO engine its built on (abliet upgraded alot) is crap. Tinybina is a self confessed changed fanboy from AoC to War so coming on here and dissing the game without factual backup is pointless. Although i will apologise for my rudeness if it came across like that.
I just can't seem to figure out who told them that open beta was right around the corner. Closed beta is time to fix animations, bugs, imbalances, and get feedback on what people like and dislike. There is plenty of time for what you see which is amazing as is, to get upgraded. 7 month open beta lol, at least it was good for a laugh.

customization looks pretty good.
I think everyone should know by now that I think they made a major mistake in using this engine but hell I can't help but say it agian. That game engine ts just going to come back around and bite them in the rear end. Major mistake.

Could not have responding better myself, wow.
One thing though AmazingAvery if your tired of me talking about how big of a mistake that using that game engine is then I suggest you just ignore every post with my name in it.. Its that simple.
BTW paragraphs are your friend.

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith
