They are in "In house" beta, not closed. Open beta is open to everyone. They told me I won a spot in the closed beta when it starts. The email is only two or three days old. You do not open beta test a game for 7 months.

I PMd one of the community people there( I am pretty new there) hoping to clear it up wether I am right or wrong, just for clarification.

Famine responded back with:

"Yes the beta currently underway is more of an internal beta testing group, we have stated we are going to bring in more beta testers as we move closer to launch, and will announce that on the forums. Hope this answers your question."

Now I would think that if Closed Beta started in the summer of 2006, then they're going backwards if the footage we're seeing in Spring of 2007 is Alpha Footage?



You're email seems to be referring to a sort of private beta, unless they're FAQ is completely wrong.  I expect Open Beta to start in the Summer, if it doesn't then we should all be extremely worried about th release, unless they're doing their open beta by invite only.

From what the mail says to me, I interpret it as close friends, family members, and people they know and trust to beta test. More or less and private one. Closed beta may be exactly that though to them, and you can "leak footage" to get some hype built up.

The email to my private account (not forum account) states 'closed beta process". So I am going to assume that their closed beta to them started with friends and family and will open up to some users? Then in turn will become open beta in the summer?

You're probably right, but they've been in some form of "beta" as in, out of alpha, and playtesting with lots of users since last summer.  The stuff that's still in the latest vids is my worry, since you're only going to show the best of what you have to the public.  And they've only shown the very best to the public, which is why we haven't seen two PCs on the same screen yet.



I don't think much is going to change between what we're seeing now and the beta this summer.  Perhaps they'll polish more, hopefully they'll fix some things, but if they don't the graphics will be the last thing on people's minds.
