Yep, I quit FF online a long time ago and thought about going back more then once.  I just can't bring myself to pay again for a game I've already bought.  Very bad policy.

Insane!  I was thinking about going back and checking it out again as well...I can't believe that my pc and ps2 accounts are now garbage.  Thanks for the heads up though so that I didn't break my keyboard thinking it was a glitch.

Thats interesting since my account from 6 months ago is still there. Last time I checked if you didnt cancel your play online ID you are fine, but if you cancel it it dissappears after several months.

Its a known thing with Squaresoft, they may not delete it right at 3 months but they do it quickly and yes you do have to buy the game AGAIN if you want to play.  I went  through the same thing, it was around 7 months since i had played and a new expansion came out so I decided to activate my old account to see if I wanted to invest in the expansion(check server numbers, check economy etc) sure enough account is gone with all my work on my toon.  Last time I ever give Squaresoft a dime but considering how they allowed gold farmers to destroy their game I wouldn't go back now if they payed me.

    Peace

Every time I see someone post about this I think that either I am extremely lucky or you guys don't know what you are doing. I have probably reactivated my FFXI account like 5 times now, each clearly over 3 months at least (5 months probably at the least, and most is probably 1 year), and I had no problem with it. Just logged in with my PlayOnline ID and password then reactivated my FFXI content ID. The only problem I can see here is that people delete their PlayOnline ID or something.

I never deleted my play online ID, but I can assure you my account is gone.  Its been long enough now I don't care anymore, last I heard the economy was so bad I just can't bring myself to consider a return.  Its to bad I loved the game til I came to a realization that Square does very little about the gold sellers.  I remember reporting a group of them that used the same toons and farmed the same area with them 24 hours a day obviously switching employees that were using the toons.  I never received a response about it and the gold sellers went as far as bringing in backup if i started to get the mobs that they were after.  When I realized I was competing with gold sellers just to make enough money to buy what I needed at inflated prices that in reality was caused by those sellers I walked away.

Where on earth did you get that load of BS?As a matter of fact i was going to post here 2 days ago a square enix announcement. They heard through various grumblings ,that people were spreading rumours of accounts being deleted. There announcement states that  any accounts that went missing were players fault do to miss use or deletion. They are willing to bring back anyones account that has been lost for whatever reason,It's like retrieving info from a deleted hard drive,an expensive proposition. They said they don't plan on it for the future, but right now they are willing to help out anyone who lost there accounts.I guess they are saying oh well you messed up we will fix it this time, but if you mess up your account again too bad.

You can  cancel a subscription without deleting anything, wich is what alot of people were doing.Others were giving out there account information to power levelling services and cheat sites ,wich is again there own fault.

And for FYI i quit this game twice ,once was about 14-16 mnths before i returned ,the other was about 9 months.Neither of these times did i lose anything.

Unless its changed in the last six months , you can use old codes to get the game up and running. If you lost the disk , many game sites allow you to download the complete collection free of charge. You can also buy trial account keys from most game sites (right now they hover at 2.00 per code..)

As far as I know about recovery of characters , Square only does 1 character once ever, provided you didnt delete the character. Its a very weird process , the guy on the phone will grill you over account information , dates , times , credit card information , street address. And tons of other questions.

The reality is , after about 3 months, its pretty much immpossible to get any of characters back. Most of the folks that I played over the last couple of years , follow the Q&A to be too hard , after some time in being gone. Or Square wil send you an email (which goes to your Playonline account) and often times they tell you it failed or something along those lines.

The best bet if you really want to play is find a game site that gives a trial code , then build up from there. 99% of the time square doesnt stop you after 30 days , about 45 days into you get a message to subscribe or not.

I know several ppl who have stopped playing and come back later. Some of them lost their chars and had to start anew, but i NEVER heard anyone say they had to buy new disks! I'm pretty sure this is pure bullshit...

That policy is outdated. Very outdated, FFXI changed that policy long ago.

    Basically you have two things:

    Your POL ID

    and Your content IDs

You log on to POL and cancel your content IDs, that's it. Your POL ID is still active, it just has no games it's paying for at the moment. Personally, I took a 5 month break, logged back into POL just fine, then reactivated my content IDs and was ready to go.

Your account only gets deleted if you're an idiot and canceled your POL account.

Think of POL as the Sony Station thing. Do you delete your entire station account when you want to cancel a game subscription? Or do you just cancel the sub?

You people are do dumb sometimes it bothers me.

OP : Your information is inaccurate to a degree.

I havent played in over a year and just reregistered today using my same registration code.

Only thing you cant do is reactivate because your account is basically wiped after 3 months of inactivity, but this releases the original code and you can use it again.

However after reregistering I started thinking about it and ran down to BEST BUY and grabbed a copy of the 2007 collection, was on sale for $25..

Personally I think thats a pretty damn good deal original game and 3 expansions including the new one for $25-30.

Anyway to answer your original question, no I dont see a problem with them wiping an account that has been canceled for 3 or more months. In fact if it was me I'd wipe it the second the user clicks cancel if it was my company. Would give players pause and make em think a bit before clicking cancel.

Here is the link for those who are trying to claim BS.REad the first several lines where it clearly states lost data was USER side not there's.I have been in this game from the first week of NA release and i am living proof that TOS on the box has NEVER been in effect. That stuff is Always lawyer stuff to cover there ass if anyone trieshold them responsible. If you ever read ANY complete TOS it will Always state the company has the right to change there policy or anything in the TOS at ANY time. This is the case on every single TOS i have ever read.I have recovered everything TWICE not once both well beyond 3 mnth leaves.

    http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/finalfantasy11/news_6087073.html

My last restart of this game was about 4 mnths ago after a year off.Yes still no problems what so ever.Yes i believe you can only do it once and only one character. You should be happy they grill you for information,i am sure you wouldn't want someone gaining access to your account information.

Can I become a PlayOnline member again after cancelling the PlayOnline service?

    Answer

You can become a member again after unsubscribing from PlayOnline. If you return to PlayOnline within three months of unsubscribing, you can restart the same service without having to complete the regular registration process. In this case, use the "For PlayOnline Members Only" when launching PlayOnline after a reinstall to log back in using your existing PlayOnline ID and PlayOnline Password. If you return to PlayOnline three months after unsubscribing, you must register a new PlayOnline account. This means you must purchase a new copy of the software to obtain a new set of registration codes.

Damned, I just can't stop laughing! You attack me with this stoneage stuff!

Btw, what kind of "tool" do I look like? The last word in your post! Hahaha, what a retard!

  • TheodorykTheodoryk Member Posts: 1,453
First of all, nobody attacked you, you tool. Secondly, if you "just can't stop laughing", maybe you need to lay off the hard drugs, because there's nothing really even mildly amusing about this thread. Then again, I suppose your laughter makes sense. Its the nervous kind, huh? That kind of  "oh man I feel like a fool, I'm going to try to laugh it off and hope nobody noticed" laughter, yah? Good job skippy, real slick.

I didn't feel like getting into this, but since you find the quote soooooo hilarious, I'll have you know that it was taken from a product purchased only a few short weeks ago. The information in the manual was confirmed as current and binding by customer service as well. Before jumping on some fictional bandwagon I recommend you do your homework first. There's nothing stoneage about the quote, and the policy has been and continues to be applied to customers.

What kind of tool do you look like? The loudmouthed anonymous idiot kind. Your idiocy does not me a retard make, though. Oh well.

From other posters in this thread, which quoted YOUR post:

Gameloading: That policy is outdated. Very outdated, FFXI changed that policy long ago.

xLexx: i lol'ed. The policy is way outdated.

I think this shows who needs to do the homework first, according to the community. And you are correct, my idiocy does not make you a retard, you manage that VERY well on your own!

    Jedivh and others:

SE's "Returning adventurer campaign" or something like that last spring proved beyond doubt that your info IS outdated

    Update...

$25 wasted lol wth was I thinking... FFXI was, is, and always will be a steaming pile of dog doo..

Took me all of  2 hours to fully install the 2007 collection, took me 30 minutes in game to cancel and uninstall.

I figured with a few years behind them and 3 expansions, they might maybe have updated something.

Combat, the crappy UI, the graphics.. something... but nope same old carpal tunnel click fest with same horrible graphics.

no wonder now it was only $25 on sale including the newest expansion.

Oh man, was I ever in the wrong. I had no idea that the community figured this out for me already. Pardon me while I go call customer service back and bitch slap them for contradicting the mmorpg.com community. I had a nice long chat about this issue with an authorised customer service representative. Somehow I doubt that he was flatout lieing to me. Of course, it is possible, but I would assume that either they don't have a clear cut policy regarding this anymore, or the almighty community you sport as an apparent character witness or whatever is simply wrong. Either way, whatever. Lets have a long drawn out argument about it because the last word is serious business, rawr!

Ahh see here is the problem. I'll break it down for you

Playonline, this as you know is the Hub you log into to access your games. This is a FREE SERVICE you do not pay for it

Conten ID, These are your character slots for FFXI, first one costs $12.99 each extra cost $0.60

What you have done is cancelled your Playonline Service, which is completely Free, It can be used for email service and chat, and mainly a game hub.

What you should of done is - Logged into Playonline, Navigated to Final Fantasy XI content ID Section and cancelled your Subscription.

If you Deleted the Content ID, that will remove the character, You would only ever want to cancel a content ID not delete.

If a Content ID remains inactive for 12 months then the character in the slot is deleted.

By cancelling your playonline ID, of which 1 is given to everyone who owns a copy of FFXI, you in essence remove your login.

as stated earlier, think of Play Online as Sony Station. If you wanted to stop playing Everquest 2, you wouldnt cancel your sony station, just the subscription.

I hope this post cleared everything up, im sorry you lost your playonline, but that really is the Users fault.
