Took me all of  2 hours to fully install the 2007 collection, took me 30 minutes in game to cancel and uninstall.
I figured with a few years behind them and 3 expansions, they might maybe have updated something.
Combat, the crappy UI, the graphics.. something... but nope same old carpal tunnel click fest with same horrible graphics.
no wonder now it was only $25 on sale including the newest expansion.

Yeah, Square really needs to get their crap together.  I mean, FFXI doesn't use a mouse.  Well, technically you can use a mouse, but it makes things slower.  And don't forget to sort your inventory every 5 minutes or you'll loose your loot because the game isn't smart enough to do this automatically.

"pile of dog doo"... ---> "crappy UI" ---> "horrible graphics" ---> etc.

It seems you played before the expansions, when reading your post. I have a few conclusions:

    - The only ones "rolling their eyes", are the ones laughing at you - how stupid must a person be to pay $25 for a game you already hated that much? Don't even think about saying that you thought the expansions would make something fantastic of "a pile of dog doo" - I doubt you are that stupid, but feel free to prove me wrong!

    - You didn't uninstall the game immediately, appearently you tested it

    - You did not reactivate an old account cause if would have been gone after these years. Meaning you had to play A LOT to test, since you mention combat - killing bees in South Gustaberg at lvl 1 doesn't qualify you to judge this. You really must love to torture yourself...

Yup, I really bet there will be a lot of ppl rolling their eyes here...

Unfortunately, since the game was originally released for the ps2, they simply cant make any drastic changes to the game because of the limitation the ps2 has. Thats why you won't ever see any graphical enhancements or any improvements along those lines. Their biggest mistake, in my opinion, was that they made it for a console.

Actually, as far as I know, the HDD accessory is required to play FFXI on the PS2.  That's why users of slim PS2's can't play FFXI.  The other console platforms on which the game is playable all come stock with HDD's.  As such, it's completely possible for them to patch the client.

If anything, I applaud them for having the smarts to make the game playable on the PS2 with a bundled accessory.  There's a reason FFXI had the best subscription rates of a non-Korean MMORPG prior to WoW.  It's not quality.

That said, I really hated this game.  I've never seen a MMORPG with a more poorly-conceived economic model.  Gold farmers were only half of the problem, really.  I played the game for a few weeks.  After the first week, I stopped really playing at all and decided to just fool around with the auction house.  FFXI basically allows single players to horde commodities and gouge prices for very brief periods of time, after which you simply move on to the next item.  Just sitting in town, I grew my money by a factor of roughly 10,000% in a few weeks.  This was way before RMT was really perceived to be an issue in the game.  I can only imagine that it got fifty times worse as time went on.

Note when I said drastic changes, not as in small patches which fixes this and that. The ps2 only has the power to do this which means that even if they wanted to enhance, say the graphics, it will be based on what the ps2 is capable of and not the pc.

Quotes from Kurush, no need to show the whole post:

"That said, I really hated this game."

Of course you did. I love this game, but I'm not just sitting in a city, doing nothing for weeks...

"Just sitting in town, I grew my money by a factor of roughly 10,000% in a few weeks."

Care to tell how the heck you did that? Money is NOT easy in this game, at least not until you start doing BCNMs. Try talking with FFXI players, I doubt you will find many ppl who disagree with me on that. Money is ALWAYS discussed in-game.
